VCR Player suppliers?

We need a VCR with VideoPlus. Finding it very difficult to find one!!!

I had a nice stash of them Im popular with the teachers as I never throw them out when people get bored of them and want DVDs

It's not going to be easy! All the "normal" manufacturers have dropped VCRs, although some are still doing VCR/DVD combos. I've resorted to a pair of Daewoos for the last I bought. Can't remember if they do videoplus as I never use it!

I'm sure ASDA and Tescos still sell them. Schneiders or something like that.

DVD/VCR Combos still are in a lot of places so that could be a solution

Out of interest as anybody come across a USB VCR, if they exist? I'm just wondering as TV's aren't being purchased in the school and use of projectors is becoming more and more and the teachers are still fond on their old VHS Tapes. Being able to for them to pass around and connect to their laptops for playing on their projectors could be interested.

Personally, would just invest in some equipment to convert from VHS to DVD

We just use the Video input on the projector and pass the sound through the soundcard on the PC using PC speakers.

This is fine if you have recorded from the TV, but not if you have bought the video (assumes that you have a ERA licence). The other option is to record to a server.

Because the fundamental problem is that it is getting difficult to buy "quality" VCRs!

A lot of the primary schools round here bought combination DVD/VCR players.

Yep, sure. However, I already have as many DVD players as I need, and the reasonable combos in that link are about £100 more than I was paying for Sony VCRs.

Media on a Server or some kind of IPTV system is preferable. Can mpeg all the VHS/DVD's up and store them in one location then play them on any PC/laptop.

 

Obviously costs a bit more than a VCR in the short term but it is a nice solution

A samsung DVD/VHS combi was delivered here today (tarquel ordered it before he escaped) £55+VAT from insight.

I put a message in the latest news letters of the schools i work at asking for parents to donate there old players, most of them have been top makes just cleaned the heads and installed them.

 

Maybe you should try this before paying out and put the money saved towards a media server.
