I've just recently upgraded the teachers computers in a school to Windows 7. Everything went smoothly except the smartboards didn't work properly using version 10 of Smart Notebook so I've upgraded them all to version 11 of the software. However, since doing so the Sassoon Primary font that the school uses as default is no longer recognised by Smart Notebook. It appears fine in the font list in Word so I know that it's properly installed. Does anyone know of any issues that might affect Smart Notebook 11 and either the Sassoon Primary font or Open Type Fonts in general?

Just to update everyone on what I've found out about this problem; Smart Tech have confirmed with me that Smart Notebook does not support Open Type Fonts, so even if they're installed they won't show up in the list. However I managed to solve the problem as Microsoft Office 2013 includes a Sassoon Infants TrueType Font which looks very similar (if not the same) as the OTF font.

I've just had a similar experience and then dug deeper and found this

As Administrator and Copyright owner of the Sassoon fonts with Dr. Rosemary Sassoon, I can tell you there are NO safe sites from which to download Sassoon fonts - because we do not licence them for that. We have never offered free fonts. We have a 100% success rate in stopping any such illegal activity wherever we see it.

As professionally researched, developed and designed fonts over many years, we rightly deserve our rewards. There is no need to seek these fonts free when we offer them at up to 50% discounted rate for Schools, Teachers and Parents form our website. Just search for 'sassoon font' in any search engine.

Some of the range of fonts is also licensed for sale by major Distributors such as fonts.com.

We also licence font software for use in applications and websites.

Thank you,

Adrian Williams

I expect there will be some huffing and puffing.

Thanks for the info. I interited the fonts I was trying to install so I can't verify where they came from, just that they didn't work in smart notebook. The school is licenced for Office 2013 anyway so that font I used from the base package of office should be legit.

I couldn't find it in Office 13, is it called sassoon?

Sassoon isn't included in Office 2013 that I can see. It is specifically licensed per user/computer and it isn't cheap.

I'd check you've got a license for it before getting it working, as it would be copyright infringement if you don't have a license. Also, I'm pretty sure the makers do offer a ttf file, which you'd be entitled to with the right license.

We won't be using any of their fonts here as they are simply too expensive for site licensing.

The font I found on the computer I looked at was called Sassoon Infants. Maybe it wasn't part of Office 2013 and someone had installed it themselves. I believe the school is licenced to use the Sassoon font, I just can't find it on the server anywhere!

Didn't some Primary Edu software come with the font built into it though so it could be reading through or did I dream that (it could be old software I am talking back to Win 98 PC days....)

I remember the old Pages software (that is still used very infrequently here!) either came with SassoonPrimary or was recommended to use with SassoonPrimary—I can't remember which.

Sorry for the Necro, but just been asked to buy and install this, can we confirm , does it or does it not work with Smart Notebook? It's Sassoon Joined Pro we are looking at.

Sassoon Primary will work in Notebook BUT it will not be joined. It will just display the regular non-joined Sassoon.

Joined I think only works in Word, when ‘Contextual Alternatives’ is enabled.

We use Letter Join which is a similar idea. I've checked this morning and it joins in Word, but not in Smart Notebook. It does display correctly apart from that. Tested in Notebook 11.4 and 17.

I've seen this too and contacted both letter join and smart. They both acknowledge the problem but it seems that smart will probably not be fixing it, at least in v11.4

Necro-ing this one again, I've just got joined working in smart, but it doesn't support OTF's - just TTF's... So you need to convert your sasson joined fonts to TTF files (I used this convertor - https://everythingfonts.com/otf-to-ttf)
