Projector/Screen in Hall

Hi

 

I have been asked to look into sourcing a screen and projector in Hall. Anybody have any recommendations of which projector to use, short throw or ceiling mounted. I attach some pics of hall for ideas.

personally i would go with a pole mounted and an automatic roll down screen. thing to remember when putting something up high is maintenance.... how often do you need to change the bulb / lens / filters etc. We have a huge sanyo thing in our hall and its a pain as it generally goes wrong several times in a short time space and requires the scaffolding tower to be put up every time it goes wrong which just takes ages to organise and put up.

 

All depends on cost and what size screen you want?

 

A Casio XJM255 could give you 100" at 5m throw length at 3000 lumens

What else goes on in your hall?

 

A roll down screen or a white wall is better than a smartboard, and as it looks like a suspended ceiling, how much higher does it go.

 

A long pole will wobble more.

Depending on the distance could you attach it to the lighting bar - have a look at the casio Pro series - something like a Casio XJ-H1700

All depends on what size display you want. You are a little bit limited when using a short throw projector. You cold hang a projector on the lighting bar and run the cables up to the false ceiling and then back to a location where you want the computer to sit, or to multiple locations. There is a couple of things you can do. But all really depends on what the budget is.

 

You could contact http://www.stage-electrics.co.uk and speak to them to see what sort of idea they have. I have used them a lot and they are very good and willing to help you get to where you want to get to.

You could also look at painting the wall with reflective projector paint such as

there are quite a few brands available - I wished we had done this - we bought an automatic roll down screen that was forever getting bashed around (specially as the pic looks like the room is also used as a gym)

Hi, Do you know the exact distance to the lighting rig and also what your budget is?

 

Distance looks approx 5.7m based on the ceiling tiles.

 

From the looks of it you could get away with a 3m wide (4:3) screen and a Casio XJ-H1700 (4000 Lumens) by mounting it directly to the lighting rig.

Hi All

 

Thanks for the feedback. I have an update and is follows so hopefully someone will help with choice or recommendation of projector.

 

1. The distance between the lighting rig and the wall where screen will be is approx 20ft

2. It can be mounted to the lighting pole as it has electrics already up there

3. The distance for the width of the screen can be a max of 10ft wide with a possible 8ft drop.

4. We would require an electric screen, projector and cabling to a faceplate that would include VGA/HDMI/AUDIO run to the corner of trunking as seen in picture above.

 

Based on this could anyone recommend ideal equipment and someone who can install this and a rough guide on cost as I believe a tower would be required as no loft hatch access.

Hi we have a Benq Eco true lazar short throw projector in our middle school, it does our stage in out main hall, we could take a picture of it if you like. It is bulbless too so the maintenance is much lower. It was fitted by Millenium Business Systems from Stoke on Trent so i suppose they could probably get you sorted out. Our staff are amazed with the results of this projector. Its like a cinema screen.

I've used Optoma widescreen DLP projectors in our school hall for the last six years. They're relatively cheap, bright, don't have filters, and produce a decent image. Lamps are not expensive. Last one of these was around £500 - I tend to replace them every three years for the latest model and switch the existing one to replace another somewhere else.

I agree totally with that recommendation. Ensure that you get decent installers as the cable quality and termination is key to quality display.

The lighting bar will have power, but connected to a dimmer somewhere in all likelihood - do you have a dedicated always-on power supply up there?
