LeMarchand Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 So, I've got a bunch of Lenovo Miix 320s to image. Our normal process would be to pxe boot and use WDS to install an image, but there's no ethernet port, and I'm having difficulty getting it to boot to anything useful. So far have tried: USB ethernet adapter, but it seems as if these machines are finicky about what they boot from and may only like to boot from a WinPE disk and doesn't recognise the adapter as a boot source. Booting to a disk with iPXE - not recognised. WinPE disk - boots, but display corrupted (have tried merging in the display driver I backed up) so I can't see what I'm doing. Created an iso of my install wim using WAIK/oscdimg - not recognised. Using AOMEI PE Builder - not recognised as a boot source. I can boot to a W10 iso (and may have to do it this way). Anyone got any ideas?

Anyone got any ideas? I might be able to help you with this as I have a batch of Miix 310s and your Miix 320's probably boot the same. All very hands on though wouldn't want to do it over a WiFi so I did it from a portable drive takes time about 30mins per device but you could replicate if you have enough USB drives large enough for your image. I'll send you over some instructions on what i did to build an image for them. 1

We tried a number of USB3 to ethernet adapters and it didnt work. I tried a C to USB adapter and plugged my "old faithful" USB to Ethernet in without any joy. Do you know the model you bought? Apparently it's pot luck as to what works with what brand/model.

Blue_Cookeh Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 (edited) FYI, I'm not sure if it helps but I've been using USB 3 Gigabit Ethernet adapters to PXE (on UEFI) boot our Lenovo laptops to WinPE/SCCM for a while now if they don't have built-in Ethernet ports. Both the StarTech.com USB 3 Gigabit Ethernet and Anker adapters have worked great for us. You have to make sure SecureBoot is disabled in the UEFI settings until after Windows is installed and put the USB3 Ethernet drivers into the WinPE boot image. I've started to use MDT to create custom offline installation (USB) media. I'd advise looking into this as you can created base images from HyperV VMs to apply to multiple machines and all you need to do is change the selection profile driver packs! 1

Basically what I ended up doing, but one of my 2018 jobs is to look at our imaging process and move more towards MDT and thinner images.
