D0liver Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I'm an IT Apprentice at a primary school that is pretty well funded. We currently have 30 iPad's and 10 iPod's that each class teacher can book out. The current way i Install apps/remove apps is doing each iPad manually by plugging it in to the mac book pro. I need a system that i can do the following - Make a master profile for all iPad's / iPod's Add free/paid Apps from a System Wipe all videos and pictures from a system. Will have 7 days to set this up Cheers
RabbieBurns Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/apple-configurator/id434433123?mt=12 Description Apple Configurator makes it easy for anyone to mass configure and deploy iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in a school, business, or institution
James_C Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 We are on the verge of deploying Ipads over the next few months in a trail. Part of our proposal for the trail was for it to include JAMF Casper suite software, onsite installation and admin training. We are hoping this software solution is going to be the answer to our IOS deployment and on-going device / software managment. JAMF Software: Products - Casper Suite

What would be a good investment would be a change and sync trolley so that you can manage all of them at the same time. Jamf Casper suite is really good but each iPad will need their credentials entering when installing an app, so keep in mind when creating your apple I'd, whether you want the users access to this or just the I.T tech.
Marci Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 (Or install server.app on existing mac and use the built in profilemanager/MDM system to do it all over the air rather than tethered via configurator)
Tsonga Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 (Or install server.app on existing mac and use the built in profilemanager/MDM system to do it all over the air rather than tethered via configurator) Have you, or anyone, tried this?
Marci Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yep... been using it here since it was released. Useful links: Apple - Support - Lion Server - Profile Manager http://images.apple.com/ipad/business/docs/iOS_MDM_Mar12.pdf http://images.apple.com/education/docs/IOS_5_Education_Deployment_Guide.pdf We tend to pre-stage all our school owned iPads using Configurator (to drop on the initial trust profile, assign the iPad name, and drop it onto the WiFi). Staff then receive the device, hit a home-screen shortcut to the MDM enrolment page, where they pop in username and password, and everything is then automated (exchange & calendar accounts configured, restrictions put in place dependant on AD usergroup, apps pushed out depending on AD usergroup, complex unlock code requirements set etc). Whenever we make a change at the server (eg: new mail server address, new apps, new ibook resources), updates are pushed straight out to the clients automatically. Personally owned devices just require us to add the user into a specific group for BYOD users, then they visit the same enrolment page. Same applies to any iPhone & iPod users, and it also manages our OSX clients. We can also remote wipe / lock / locate / change unlock code.
garethm Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Configurator sounds exactly to be what you need! It's really really easy to use, free, and it's pretty damned powerful!
dan400007 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Web Filtering, Collaboration, Management, Security, Email Solutions for Schools - Recommended to us, we havn't got any iPads in as yet but they seem to provide a large amount options - big bonus which caught my eye was the ability to integrate the MDM with your VPP accounts.
TechieDaz Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Apple Configurator for sure! Apple - Education - Resources - Videos
Edu-IT Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Been playing with Meraki. Seems pretty good, for free.
