It's hardly a secret if you spoke to any top brass from Capita at BETT. SIMS 8: It is in pilot in NI currently, browser based incarnation of SIMS. Kinda has to be if it is their new release! Don't get too excited it is a few years away yet! Assuming the pilot goes well!

Wonder how the reports module, exams, options (version 5 I do believe I still use) and Nova all work. Have to admit, kinda excited, I remember the big move to SIMS .net and the knock on effect that had.

Firstly, I'm awaiting a SWAT team to swoop on me sent by @PhilNeal or @David_Grashoff but this is public knowledge... blimey it must be if the schools in NI are using it!

 

I wouldn't hold breath either the roadmap says this is still 3 years away... think there is a lot of work still to do, even before a UK pilot.

 

Finally, lets be fair it was due to come soon lest SIMS goes the way of Windows XP... fighting on but days are numbered!

Nova and Exams are well overdue an overhaul to bring them in to the 21st century - perhaps this might finally be their time? The rest AFAIK are already .NET based so theoretically shouldn't be any more difficult than core SIMS to port (not that I'm saying that won't be difficult!)

 

The question is, will this be a complete move to online or just an improved online front end? I just hope it's not all based on Sharepoint

Well look at the new systems like intouch agora ... Things are moving online and to a service model. So the ground work is there.

 

I have to see it to believe it though.

You'll probably end up with nova and exams on .net while the rest is cloud!

We were told we could say. It's coming. It's used in a basic form by 2 small N I Primary schools. It would be about 2016 before it was released.

I heard it's written in S.M.O.K.E. based on a framework of Mirrors 2.0 so it'll be really adaptable

Joking aside, I really hope they don't make it reliant on some proprietary plugin... and I hope it's written with cross browser compatibility in mind unlike the slew of other IE only educational "software"...

I should hope so as that's more than just "buzz" it's the evolution of HTML; any website being designed today ought to have a firm basis in HTML5.

An interesting (if very pro Capita, so apologies for that) statement about the NI implementation. Paragraph 4 is the interesting part (Just ignore the marketing drivel from @PhilNeal ):

So an early indication for SIMS 8, or a roll out of something everyone is jumping on the band wagon with recently, this being a fully featured multi-supplier environment with all resources to hand? Granted this is from 2012, so these boys were there first, but is nonetheless identical to what SWGfL have recently announced and others...
