Bearing in mind, you can now have office documents through O365, and even hotmail lets you see them online and edit i think, they are pushing for cloud. I don't think people will have much choice soon.

Isn't the latest flavour of office cloudy anyway?

 

You've got to find a way to separate the generation of data to how it's then displayed and formatted. The XML reports out of lesson monitor are a good example of this. Much better than having to push them into Excel or Word via macros and CSV. It's a PITA to make your own XSL and do something different with the data, but at least it's possible.

 

If the system is built to work with an open standard, then it's not going to cost the user to fit in with that, if they then choose to use a different in-house system, it should be relatively easy to port shouldn't it?

What's wrong with that? Seems completely logical to me - SIMS is based on .NET (presumably C# looking at that JD) so why rewrite everything in a different language?

 

I just hope that they take the time to remove a lot of the inconsistencies we see across SIMS.NET during the update.

Oh dear, that is worrying. I can understand Sharepoint as a need to understand SLG (hopefully with a view to rewriting it without Sharepoint!) but Silverlight is a new low

 

I seem to remember someone from Capita mentioning Silverlight, may have been in this thread...

Pretty much yes, the lead developer for WPF left years ago and its been basically treading water ever since.

 

Silverlights main use these days is for DRM copy protection apps, its not used for much else.

Sure they'll do wonders for Capita image too. Help destroy that image that they are the enemy, they are the "man" pushing the people down and we the the people must rebel, yer man. It's Friday, may the dots all connect.

 

More serious note, be good to see a bit of public humor coming out of Capita HQ. Long gone are the days of ASSman and if they do go MSI, so will the Wise installer with it's unwise.exe uninstaller. Be nice if they can include a bit in the new version.

Do you know why I called the SIMS7 main applicaiton Pulsar.exe ? Its because the internal name of the product was Super Star, Star being the internal product name of the previous edition. Thus a Pulsar is a Super Star. Geeky but my kind of in-joke.
