Had to RMA a drive before Christmas and you have to send off the drive off. Did have a new drive about 3 weeks later. (After Christmas)

Keep an eye on ebuyer + BT Business Direct; sign up to their promotional emails as there are often SSDs in them. Still trying to find out where one PC refurbisher I met at BETT is sourcing 120GB SSDs for £28. Hmm.....

I'd also like to take the opportunity of upgrading them to SSD's at the same time, as the budget won't stretch to new laptops and I need to make them last as long as possible. We mostly have an estate of Toshiba A11-17K and HP 620's, so I wonder if any of the ones mentioned in this thread would be ok - or what I would have to look for in terms of compatibility?

You won't get anything cheaper by going older, but you'll be able to reuse the SSD's if you scrap the laptops say in a year so you won't lose anything. 1

This is the approach we have been taken and found no issues so far.

I've got hundreds of these and they're great and always have been around £40 each. Every PC should be SSD powered in your school.

I've got hundreds of these and they're great and always have been around £40 each. Every PC should be SSD powered in your school. I'm sorry but they have. I got a 960GB Sandisk SSD for £150 in December 2015. For that price these days, you might get a 480GB one. The same one is now £250 if you're lucky. The lower end ones might not have gone up by much but SSDs are definitely more expensive than they were two years ago.

Even then. We purchased 250GB SSDs a few years ago. They are selling used on eBay than we paid for them new.
Katy Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I used to get 120/128GB SanDisk SSDs from Scan for about £25 + VAT each, unfortunately they seem to have dropped the lower capacities. Luckily for me we bought 200 and put them in everything, and then new kit came with factory fitted SSDs, so I've got a nice stack of spares that we stripped out of the upgraded old kit when it went byebyes
