flyinghaggis Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Thought I'd start a thread as it's very nearly that time of year! From a personal point of view I have some time off over Xmas so wanted to get some tips of what games you thought were the best of 2017? I haven't really had much time for gaming this past year so I'll start with a top 3 though if anyone would rather go for a top 3/5/10 or whatever that's fine by me! From what I've played so far this year I'd say :- 1) PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds 2) Xcom 2: War of the Chosen 3) Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
DeGrimmy Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) This year in games promised a lot, but has been quite disappointing. I guess that may just be me focusing on the big names like Battlefront II, Shadow of War and Mass Effect: Andromeda, but I was really looking forward to them and they either didn't deliver or had dubious microtransactions piled on to them... From what I've played: 1) Divinity: Original Sin 2 2) Destiny 2 3) Forza Motorsport 7 I had a lot of fun with Human Fall Flat over the weekend, as well. DiRT 4 is an honorary mention for racing game, and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds also deserves a mention, although I haven't played a lot of it. I've played a fair amount of Call of Duty: World War II but I've only really played the multiplayer. EDIT: Wolfenstein 2 probably would've featured, if I could get it to stop crashing at exactly the same point during the intro sequence... Edited December 19, 2017 by DeGrimmy
foofighterjim Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I would have to go for the only game that I have that was released this year then: 1. Little Nightmares 2. - 3. - For what it is worth it is a fun little game, it has a brilliant atmosphere to it, I just wish it was a little longer. Life is strange: Before the storm would have been on this list but I am waiting for that to go on the cheap once all the episodes are released. I have been slowly going back through games with gold and other games that I purchased and never played / completed.
tg12 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 The only two I've played this year that I can think that are deserving of Game of the Year are Super Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
synaesthesia Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Wolfenstein 2 here by a long stretch. Too many multiplayer oriented games saturating the market and it's refreshing to see decent single player stories now and then. So much simpler; being sucked into a fantasy world unruined by other human beings.
sted Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 1. Persona 5 2. Zelda breath of the wild 3. Xenoblade chronicles 2(this may move up/down depending im over100 hours in and havnt finished im on chapter 8 of i believe 10 i keep finding side quests) 4. Horizon Zero Dawn 5. Ghost recon Wildlands (i will finish it one day maybe) Honourable mentions to shantae half genie hero, human fall flat, mario+rabids and golf story dishonourable mentions to ff15 that game is utter crap
Fazza Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 1: Fallout 3 - XBox One Enhanced Version 2: Fallout: New Vegas 3: FarCry 4
sted Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 1: Fallout 3 - XBox One Enhanced Version 2: Fallout: New Vegas 3: FarCry 4 well thats the f's covered lol
RobD Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 1) Battlefield one (admittedly the only game I've played).

localzuk Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 I have to say, all in all, this year has been pretty bleak for good new games for me. Too many remasters released, or existing games re-released for different platforms (I mean, LA Noire was released for Switch! That's a 6 year old game!) I've not bought any AAA games that I can remember this year! So, my games of the year are: Fallout 4 Minecraft American Truck Simulator All of which aren't this year's games
TwistedHelixis Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Battlefield 1 Rust Fallout 4 (last years games) Would like: players unknown Wolfenstein 2 Outlast 2 Resident Evil 7
Bedders Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 In terms of games released this year? > PUBG (I don't own it, it's not my sort of game, but seen a friend play it and it looks good) > Star Wars Ba... Nope, wait, not that. > Dawn Of War 3... Nope, not that either. Umm... umm... I play a lot of Factorio?
localzuk Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 OK. I will admit, of the games that have come out this year, the one with the biggest impact appears to have been PUBG. So I would say it is likely to get some of the GOTY awards. However, Fortnite Battle Royale looks like more fun
CJLane Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Fortnite is a fantastic game. Really enjoy playing it (as long as it isn't a solo queue!). PUBG is the most influential game this year. H1Z1 was a good breakthrough, in terms of breaking into the esports scene.
Bagpuss66 Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) Zelda Breath Of The Wild Super Mario Odyssey Xenoblade Chronicles 2 All Switch games even though I also own a PS4 pro, Nintendo have released so many good games this year. I should also say Splatoon 2, Mario Kart and ARMS are all excellent games on the switch as well. Edited December 20, 2017 by Bagpuss66
flyinghaggis Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) 1. Persona 5 dishonourable mentions to ff15 that game is utter crap I've decided to take your recommendation and picked up Persona 5 at lunch time today as it was on sale in my local CeX Looks pretty interesting and it's the highest rated PS4 game ever after Grand Theft Auto and The Last of Us on Metacritic so hopefully I won't be disappointed. I'd been meaning to pick up FF15 at some point. I was tempted today as it was only £12 but everyone I've spoken to has said it was rubbish so I'll probably give it a miss. Thinking about it now I haven't actually enjoyed a Final Fantasy game since FF12 on the Playstation 2 a decade ago! Edited December 22, 2017 by flyinghaggis

Thinking about it now I haven't actually enjoyed a Final Fantasy game since FF12 on the Playstation 2 a decade ago! as long as you can handle its anime you should love persona 5 its what old ffs were turn based jrpg did 2 almost complete run throughs 185 hours(2nd run missed 2 or so hings but had 0 time to fix diddnt want to finish). ff15 if id bought it about 2 weeks later they changed the refund policy on xbox and ive of refunded it i played it for an hour wasnt feeling it tried again hated it. i liked ff13/132 13 3 feels similar its the combat turn based worked the way xenoblade chronicles 2 does it works ff13/2 & 15 its just no fun
simpsonj Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 1, Divine Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Everything the first game was and more. 2, Horizon Zero Dawn - Jaw dropping, and a decent storyline for a change. 3, Persona 5 - Didn't connect with the characters the same way as I did with P4, but an excellent game nevertheless.
Saladin Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 dishonourable mentions to ff15 that game is utter crap I am still gutted at FF15, it was one of the only 2 games which I pre-ordered too. Such a waste of money.
Saladin Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 TLOZ: Breath Of The Wild, Divine Divinity: Original Sin 2 or Persona 5
Ksavage413 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Was an early backer of PUBG (knew PU from his days as an ARMA modder) and have recently fallen out of love with the game due to fatigue with it, plus the unoptimized state its in. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game, but I've played it far too much. As for top 3 games of 2017: 1. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands 2. Sonic Mania 3. Nier: Automata Honorable mention to Stellaris (Paradox Gaming), whilst you weren't released in 2017 you certainly took up more hours than my top 3 combined. It's almost shameful how much I played that game.
DalekSec Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 1) PUBG, no doubt about it. 2) SUPER MARIO!!!!!! Odyssey 3) I can't think of a 3rd one that blew my mind.... or i have played a lot of.... Let's just go with Good ol' Overwatch
failnator Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 For me it has to be persona 5 just loved it since i started playing and got me into playing number 4 aswell 1
