Please also remember that BETT in January is only three days now (Wed-Fri).

Does that make it better or worse, as potentially shorter time makes it more crowded? (assuming most visitors are like me and only really go for 1 day)

The 'plan' is for BETT to stay open until 8pm each day to make up for the hours missed on Saturday. As you can imagine, this has gone down like a lead baloon with exhibitors.

The organisers have an idea about shipping in night time visitors by bus (this was when first suggested before covid arrived). As you can imagine, for many exhibitors these hours are prohibative. How are you supposed to feed your staff properly, or do your after-hours networking which is what takes up a large portion of the exhibitors after show activity.

For smaller vendors many will, from what I can gather, be simply putting up a sign on their stands at 6pm saying 'Gone for a meeting. We shall be back tomorrow'. Even if more visitors arrive after 6pm, they will most likely be there to see the bigger companies and not them.

Once again, BETT's location is a problem for anyone who lives anywhere that isn't Central or North East London. When will they learn it needs to move again, to Birmingham or Manchester. Or maybe alternate venues every year. Most people I know only tend to go to one in every three anyway.

The DLR is something I hadn't considered (thank you) and if you've ever been there in the morning first thing when the exhibitors make up the vast bulk of the passengers then you'll know just how mad it gets. With fewer services at that time it will get horrendous!

@Zoom7000 Told us that he'd been to an event there recently and they were checking for covid passports on the door. With BETT being the second largest show at ExCEL (behind Comic Con) this will make getting in a very interesting affair if this policy is still in place.

My brother actually went to Comic Con last week (or the week before, whenever it was!) It was very, very busy indeed. However, the covid check took very little time at all. There were some bouncers at the main entry doors to ExCeL and they were checking phones with details of the vaccine status or an email with a negative lateral flow test before letting you in. He said it was a moving queue and the whole process took about a minute or two in total.

 

It was similar to my experience at UC Expo, which again, was quite busy, but not as big as Bett usually is.

I do have to ask, how big was this Comic Con compared to 'normal' years, any idea?

He said it was smaller than previous years, but that's just smaller than your average 'normal' year Comic Con standards. Everything was a bit more 'spaced out' but by no means socially distanced. There were lesser stands than usual, but it was still very big and very busy.

Plans have changed, and I will be going - though I'll be in a mask and stinking like i've fallen into a vat at a hand gel company on the Wednesday.

 

Anyone got any "must see" stands? I've already got my list going
