Adobe CC EEA. Ending 6th Jan?

Hi folks,

 

We've been looking at getting the Adobe CC EEA for our school (it's the most cost effective of the various options).

 

We had planned to get the EEA at the start of next FY (April), but our Adobe reseller has said that the EEA is being dropped from the 6th Jan (!). The alternative is the K12 agreement, which is much more expensive for us (4x).

 

I've tried another reseller, but they have no information that the EEA is being dropped.

 

Is anyone else aware of this?

Nothing on Adobe's licencing page mentions it being removed... It even provides you a link to enroll for EEA.

Sounds like a shady reseller...

We had asked the reseller to keep us advised if there were changes, as we didn't want to get disadvantaged ahead of April, but knowing what sales people are like...

Our reseller tells us: The agreement you are part of is coming to an end next year as we are now in the 3^rd and final year of the agreement, however there will be a replacement agreement ....

We've been told that as long as we keep extending the EEA it won't come to an end (!). For a school like ours - 85 FTE according to the EEA formula, versus 500 PCs - the EEA is MUCH cheaper. The K12 agreement is unaffordable for us.

 

What worries me is (a) the dealer is lying and (b) the EEA *will* come to an end, leaving us up s**t creek.

Having spoken to several other dealers, it seems likely that the current EEA will end early next year. But it also seems that it will be replaced by a similar product.

 

My thinking is that if Adobe don't replace it with a similarly priced product then we aren't going to upgrade anyway, as they will price themselves out of this particular market.

If you are on an EEA FTE licence for CS6 then you would move to an EEA CC FTE Licence. EEA in itself is not changing and FTE Licensing for CC will remain.

Although based on the quote from that site: "The price for this is comparable to the EEA site license depending on the size of your school." This is most definitely not the case. The K12 agreement for us is 4x the cost. A couple of dealers I spoke with reckon EEA will be replaced with something else, but if they don't it will make Adobe CC unaffordable for large schools.

To confirm, Adobe have canned EEA, and are only offering the device licensing for schools. We can't upgrade to Creative Cloud if they don't reintroduce something akin to EEA.

Adobe have essentially got us to ransom.

 

I had a quote on the table for the EEA based on our FTE which was about 9K a year, and asked them to re-issue based on an Academy Trust license..... then they told me "sorry no more EEA"

 

Now I have got a revised quote for the new per-device license and its £22k a year.... that's to license every device..... I cant realistically start deploying software to only specific machines, it restricts the fluidity of our campus and restricts student learning.

 

Then how far to we restrict it - a department with 4 IT Suites, oh sorry you can only have it installed in one room, its a timetabling and PR disaster.

 

come to our college we have AdobeCC, but you can only use CC on a few machines.....

 

I basically got told by Adobe this morning "well its either get a per-device license or look at an inferior alternative"..... the cost their quoting me is 9K a year MORE than our Microsoft Campus License.

EEA sounded good, but I'm glad I stuck with CS6 at this point - these prices are unsustainable with current Welsh educational funding. Shame.

We've asked our reseller to feed this back to Adobe, that the pricing is unaffordable for our school. We were told several schools have said this, and they've fed it back.

 

Adobe should take a leaf out of Autodesk's book, who provide the software for free.

There essentially saying if you have CS6 or an existing EEA agreement you can renew/upgrade and stay in the happy realm of FTE

 

Everyone else..... Pray for a lottery win or a reversal in education funding cuts.

 

I outlined my points to Adobe today;

AutoDesk and even Microsoft realise if you empower the students when they go out into industry they will want it and try will get money that way or progress to Uni.

 

Are we meant to go back to the dark ages by limiting people to rooms/areas - and in open areas we we only kit out 50 of our 120 LRC machines and in the event someone wants to use CC do we need to kick a student off a PC. Our library over lunch is full.

 

They actually told me

" well you could make part of your library a CC area and promote it that way...."

 

No I kid you not they actually said that !!

 

They genuinely were not bothered - pay it or don't there not bothered and I quote if you don't pay "use an inferior product"

The last time I spoke to a reseller, Adobe haven't budged.

The price we were recently quoted for a K12 Site VIP license for all of the Creative Cloud apps was £17.16 per device per year. For 400 PCs that £6,864 (ex. VAT) every year.

 

This makes it over double the price of the previous EEA license. Adobe just don't care!

No idea! Can't find much info about it beyond the basic stuff on the Adobe site.

I thought the FTE based licensing was the one that was scrapped. I'll check with the reseller...

Reseller confirmed that it's ETLA licensing which has been scrapped (for new customers). Only VIP licensing is available, per device.

For us, a typical Secondary School Academy. We are looking for a site license with access to pretty much most of the Adobe Cloud Suite.

 

Looking at £4000 a year last checked. We are waiting till our agreement runs out in August and then we will renew.

 

Not sure if that helps and yes its based on faculty staff etc.
