We were contemplating upgrading it to the site licence version order to deploy it to additional computers and use some of the online cloud/sync functionality in conjunction with pupil iPads. However, reading this thread, everyone seems to be saying that Adobe are no longer offering an institution licence to schools? Is that the case or has there been any update? Gongalong Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 I'm not sure if you can migrate from one to the other, but I suspect not based on what I've heard to-date. If you had a site license in place before 6th Jan then apparently you're allowed to extend it, but who knows until when... 2

Feels like they're basically saying that schools can only licence per device and as a result don't get any online functionality. Maybe they're expecting/hoping that students themselves will start signing up directly as there's surely no practical way a school can start paying the licences for every individual user without incurring ridiculous costs. Maybe Adobe think this way they can gouge customers by getting schools to buy the per-device licences and the pupils/staff to sign up themselves for the per-user subscriptions. All this will do is force schools to start teaching alternative products? It's already got us starting to look elsewhere as it's not a licensing model which is going to work for us. 1
flyinghaggis Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) Our Adobe reseller confirmed the pricing :- ~£20 per year for the per device licensing (without online functionality) ~£290! per year for a per-user licence They also do an ETLA licence but that requires you to have more than 500 FTE's so very few schools are going to qualify for that. So basically that leaves us stuck with having to go for the per-device licences rolled out to a limited number of computers and foregoing any of the online/ipad functionality for the foreseeable future unless Adobe change their licensing terms. (possibly only via a two year renewal now) They do this every so often. I remember looking down the barrel of a £30K photoshop licence, and then they release the K12 Creative Suite site licence. Something similar happened just before EEA became available to schools too. They will see reason or Autodesk / Apple / Google will eat their lunch. Does anyone know if DfE / CCS have looked into this? (depressingly it's quite possible they are actually the ones responsible for this mess given the 'improvement' they negotiated with Microsoft recently)

linkazoid Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 We currently have a site license to use CS5 Master Collection but are looking to upgrade to the newest version. We were looking to upgrade the OSX version to CC and we have contacted one reseller and have been told that it is cheaper to buy 100 K12 device licenses than the 28 we actually require. It's coming in over £1000 for one year. This is absolutely ridiculous!!

linkazoid Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 We have a site licence for CS5 that covers our 800+ PCs but at the new rates we can't justify updating the licencing to cover them all! Here's hoping Adobe sort this mess out!

Also I cant remember what agreement we had in place, it was done before JAN that's for sure but it was just the agreement not purchase of software..
gaz350b Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 We just replaced our Mac suite for pc's, Adobe cs 5 master suite doesn't install so Adobe and their crazy pricing backed us in a corner. Cs5 does what we need it to do at the moment....
