Always recommend PeaSoup, pick up some offsite storage with them and they throw in the Veeam licensing. Very reasonably priced.

Ideally Veeam should be on it's own VM, or separate machine. Could run it on a spare PC if you really wanted. Best practice is not to install it directly on the host. I'd give it 8GB of RAM at minimum, ideally more. Most of ours have 16GB plus. Veeam will go out and install required software on the hosts & VMs when you add them. You can just add the server to be backed up as a Windows server if you didn't have access to the underlying host. Or just back it up as a file share.

Another fan of PeaSoup, excellent customer service, decent pricing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Would tend to agree here, like their interface but I think they've started to develop a bit a of a reputation now for security issues.

Sophos is pretty good as a firewall, I do think Smoothwall is the best as an education focused web filter though. If you're looking to move to a cloud filtering solution like Smoothwall cloud, then something like a Ubiquiti UDM may be perfect for a small primary and doesn't have the recurring licence fees.

I’ve been pretty happy with Dell servers, as others have said the driver side of Dell is much better than HP, who seem to have made it as unintuitive as possible to get up to date. On the whole though both are decent brands and I’d have no concerns with either. All the secondaries we did in the last few years were Hyper-V S2D clusters, which were pretty solid. Provided they’re setup correctly.

I bought a Pockethernet a few years back, which was OK. Then ended up getting a Netally LRAT 1000 from ebay for £200 which was an absolute steal. Seem to remember Pockethernet stopped shipping to the UK and development seemed to become a bit stagnant. I’d probably go for a Nettool if I was buying again.

Having the same issues with some new U7-Pro Max APs on an Aruba 2930M. Seems to not be putting out enough power causing the AP to brown out and reboot when running a speed test through it. Looking at the switch I can see that the AP is requesting 25w but the switch is only allocating 13W. Setting the port to allocate by value sorts it, but looking for a more elegant solution. Seems strange as the switch is aware the AP is requesting more but just doesn't want to offer it in the default poe configuration. int x poe-allocate-by value poe-value 25 no power power

As others have said, contractually it appears you're obligated to delete it.

I've had pretty good luck with IDPs printers, something like a Smart 21 would be fine for light use. For heavier use a 51 would be better and 51D if you need double sided. Used the Magicard machines and Evolis, the IDP seemed to be the best of the bunch.

Paxton 10 would work, without having VPNs. However if you're on net2 then there would be considerable cost to replace the controllers. You do have to have a NUC type device at one site, however no special networking.

Previously used Netsupport Notify, which worked. Just got annoying when the school tried to turn it into a bell system over covid. Drove everyone up the wall. Does the job though as an alert system.

I honestly hope I never have to see Parago ever again. I think it ticks a lot of boxes for functionality, however doesn't really do any of it well. It's clunky and unintuitive, and just not flexible.

If you go to the settings for that door in Net 2: Under the reader 1 tab check: Under reader type - normally would be Paxton reader but in your case I'd check what it's set to on a working door. operating mode - set to token only (Might have been set to inactive by mistake) Check timed operating mode - unchecked Reader Action - typically Relay 1 opens for door open time.

MDM is definitely what I'd be looking at, recently our mac's were removed here. It was an outdated profile manager setup that was put in by the appointed contractors and never worked very well. Personally love my Mac but this setup was awful. The only downside of removing them is that the schools really struggling with Qbase, the Macs once they were running just tended to work with the Midi keyboards and audio just worked fine. 30 kids with MIDI keyboards and little mixing consoles with PCs just doesn't seem to work reliably, almost every PC needs troubleshooting every music lesson to work out why nothing happens when they use the MIDI keyboard.

Also about 90% failure rate on the Acer hinges, and about 50% on the acer power connectors

Just bought myself a Dell 4K 27" monitor, can't believe how much difference the higher resolution makes. Thankfully my eyes are still good so I can fit loads more on screen. Having said that, I'll probably look to add a second at some point.

We've recently had a spate of power supply failures in the AP7 70" panels, seems to be a design defect in the PSU. The warranty replacement was pretty good, can take a bit of nudging to try to move it along. Not sure that the Promethean boards are worth the price premium though.

I think the G9s were in the era where HP decided you need a support contract to access anything. Very helpful!

Aruba 2930F or 2930M if doing propper stacking. 5400r where modular is needed. I have used the 2930F with VSF before, where budgets are tighter I'd do that. Smaller sites we've used the Ms as cores. We had a new build site 3 years ago, fibres were sort of diverse where possible, but did end up meeting in places along the way. I believe the duct to the sports hall was shared with both of them then they went opposite ways around the changing rooms maybe 5m apart.

Just seen Amazon's one pop up on the homepage, looks like it's pretty much the same, but a fair bit cheeper. I still think they're expensive for what they are.
