Hi I am in a bit of a pickle. I have been given a memory stick that has 3gb's of data on it. It has many MANY folders on it and thousands of documents. Many of the documents have come up as corrupt, some have no file extension, some have loads of random letters and/or symbols. I have downloaded PCinspector as advised in another thread... which has helped with a few of them. Basically, this memory stick has far too much ACTUAL work on it and has never been backed up. This stick hasn't been backed up as the user requested it not be backed up due to an unfortunate issue at another school. I know i might get a few "serves them right for refusing backup" but all I REALLY need now is an idea as to whether I am even able to get this stuff back... I have never seen a memory stick in such a bad state before but I NEED to get something recovered. This is about as important as it gets. Thanks in advance Tony

Hi Sorry, i haven't had time to read everything so ignore me if this has already been said. we use the SIMS.net Admission number. they are all unique and run through the students time at the school. I am sure it has plenty of flaws but that's what we do (set up before i started) Tony

[ms office - 2003] Outlook - User can not connect to exchange server
Tony_Mc replied to Tony_Mc's topic in Office Software
Hi Pooley thanks for the reply, no, they are not hidden from the exchange address lists. -
Hi guys So this is the deal. we have an exchange 2003 server on site, users can get mail by two ways within the school. 1. Intranet page has a link that resolves from their username. 2. Outlook 2003 - set up. I have one user, for whom last week their Outlook stopped working, the error they are getting is "unable to connect to exchange server" (paraphrase) they can get in through the Intranet page but not through Outlook. I have removed their exchange account and tried to re enter but it wont pick up a connection to Exchange. I have checked the firewall incase it had anything to do with that, but quite honestly i am a little baffled. ideas? Tony

Do your SMT (Senior Management team) listen to you?
Tony_Mc replied to hillskill's topic in General Chat
Yes, very much so. It has taken time but I totally believe that they have faith in me and do listen to me. the best advice is never bullshit about anything, if you are not sure tell them that you will be looking into it and also talking to other school is a great talking point to show you really understand what a school needs. as mentioned leave the technobabble down to a min and draw on examples where what you are proposing has been used and show them that is has worked and if it is a bad example tell them WHY, as long as you are honest, open and have every answer that you think will be thrown at you. and don't be a yes person. the amount of respect you can get from a well worded "no" is quite impressive. hope that helped. by having a desktop PC in the classroom?

Yup, we use wireless for about 100 laptops throughout the school and it works fine. all unmanaged rubbish, well apart from in English where it is managed rubbish due to bad setting up. Thanks for the info about the wireless and login issues from the Nov update, It only clicked today that it was super mega amazing fast on cable and super slow on the laptops. /penny drops.

Try and do it again, there is normally 3 settings. 1. built in screen 2. CRT/LCD external and built in screen 3. External screen this is clutching at straws though. hmm boot in safe mode, f8 from boot. could be a microsoft update that has fubar'd the drivers, happend to my work machine once.
