*Humble pie alert* So I went to Asda last night as it was the only shop open, and did a shop for a few days food - how cheap is Asda? AMAZING! I bought a crown of duck for dinner and it was really nice and at only £7 it was really a good bargain! They DO however have a lot of pretty horrible looking meat though that may be down to the amount left over at the end of a busy bank holiday but they also had some really nice, well butchered meat on offer too and it is really REALLY competitively priced though I pity what the farmers must make from their produce, how they can get 500g of strawberrys into a punnet for £1 I don't know, same for baby new potatoes....

are you saying their special range competes with Waitroses special range or Waitroses standard range? You are right, I am probably speaking more opinion than proven fact. I am a serious foodie (hate the term) and spend a majority of my time cooking or preparing food and have shopped around a lot, from Jack O Shea at Selfridges to Aldi and I like to think my taste isn't completely ruled by where I got the meat, how much I paid and the stigma associated to certain stores. I have a high regard for the meat sold at Costco, the AA grade beef is CERTAINLY better in taste than the A grade. If a super market is selling an AAA grade piece of beef, it should taste better than an AA grade and an A grade identical cut - that is the economics of quality, no? If Waitrose sell AAA grade and Asda sell AA grade, then surely the AAA will be a better product? there is logic to my madness

there was a report that Asda was going to start to sell Wagyu beef produced in the UK, this was exciting news for sure! here it is Asda is proud father I generally buy my regular groceries from where ever I am near to as I am unorganised, Asda is cheapest for brand goods for sure! There are certain things I am really fussy about and meat is one of them! it has to look right and be well butchered. simples.

Meat alone, the quality of the end product at Waitrose is better. The butchery is better, the meat on the whole looks better. Yes there are things that both supermarkets do well but on the whole Waitrose supply a higher end product, for starters compare their sausages.

with all due respect you can not really compare Asda to Waitrose....

I go to my local butcher as much as possible but go to Waitrose to get most other things... One thing I have found out is that if you like beef, the Dry Aged Beef from Waitrose is actually quite excellent and well priced compared to other people doing dry aging. Also look for rib roasts as these are often priced a LOT lower than rib eye steak yet it is where the rib eye comes from and you get the bone which adds SO much flavour! And one more thing, check out the cheaper cuts of beef, Onglet, Feather etc as these produce wonderfull steak as long as you cut it right before cooking... last time I checked feather blade/feather was coming out at about £8 a kilo from Waitrose so might be cheaper still from the local butchers. last thing, get your hands on some pigs cheeks.... braise in a pot with a bottle of red wine, onions and chorizo for about 3 hours. win

There was no offence meant by my post, I obviously didn't put enough thought into the wording of it. In my last role as NM in a school, I would have talked the head down in such a thought (buying ipads for teachers) unless there was a supportable function within the school. I think some establishments would find them usefull and other wouldn't. personally the only adverts that really grinds my gears are the gocompare.com I generally don't get wound up enough to post online, something I don't care about and will never use.

Obviously. The fact remains that people are finding use in them, you are not but you also haven't bought any and have taken exception to the advert showing them as usefull in a class enviroment. If your head teacher came to you and said buy 100 ipads for all teachers, I am sure you would talk him or her down as it wouldn't work on your network or in your enviroment. we have people here saying they can work and other saying it isn't worth it. I would say the advert (remember, it is a way selling products) is accurate - you CAN use it the real question is... is it worth it?

Anything that engages a child just that little bit more than normal is a good thing as at the end of the day, as a teacher, having a classes attention is the path to them learning. I saw a study about 5 years ago that heavily indicated (possibly proven now?) that IWBs in primary schools increased the overall grade of a class by a half of a grade... I will try and look it up... edit - Using Interactive Whiteboards to Improve Achievement | doug woods study has proven grades can increase by up to 16% when using engaging technology... To me that is the point of these "toys" With students requiring so much stimulation these days to match what is needed for their attention spans, surely anything that can get closer to gaining their attention for long periods of time should be treated with respect!

Did I not see an app that would allow teachers to do sims.net based functions on iphone and ipad? I am sure I saw this somewhere... I have an ipad which I use mainly at home for doing simple things like ordering take away and doing the shopping on Ocado - I plug it into the Zeppelin when i want to play music and when my niece comes around she plays on it (her dad has one too so she probably knows more about it than I do) - When I get away for a weekend, I take it over a laptop as it is smaller and lighter than a laptop and for what I need it for when I am away (checking weather and tides, I kite surf) it is easier to use and a better sized display than my phone. My girlfriend is a teacher and she is excited about using ipads or other tablets in her classroom in conjunction with her interactive whiteboard. the beauty of the product is that is cheap, it makes people excited enough to produce thousands of apps (90% are useless) but out of them come some great features that work. Yeah I hate the advertisement, it is patronising and aimed as Americans mainly - thickos with no thoughts of their own (neg rep that please)

Afternoon gents, I have an old style SMARTboard attached to a mac mini via serial to USB converter. Each time the teacher logs on they have to open the connection wizard and connect (which works every time) but for some reason it isn't picking up on startup/login/ I have tried re-installing and ticking "automatically start up" but still it doesn't work.. any ideas?? I bought an iPad a couple of weeks ago and have used it a lot since, watching movies on the train, writing mails at home and using it as a touch screen hifi thing in my B&W Zeppelin.... I have had SO much grief from friends and family, I have been called names and the like and for the life of me I cannot work it out.... I bought something I could afford and wanted to give a go and all I seem to get is abuse.. can someone explain why this is? are kittens and puppies ground down to powder to make them? What did I do wrong!?

Morning, I am setting up a Fog server to PXE boot some new machines, In the past I have sysprepped machines, taken an image using snapshot and then using a Bart/UBCD started up a PEbuild and downloaded the .sna image to the machine, this was super fast and rarely went wrong. I now have machines with no CD drive so am going the pxe boot way... I have seen there are some issues with Ubuntu 10.04 and Fog 0.28 but these can be worked around.... But I haven't seen if there are issues with using .sna files as images... am I barking up the wrong tree or will this work ok? ta Tony

Morning, I had a bit of a search and didn't really get anywhere on this. Basically (is there such a thing when it comes to networks?), I have a school with a core Cisco phys net. gig to switch and 100meg to desktop. this school has a 10meg LGFL link and is constantly using upwards of 8-9meg of that at any one time.... They don't have loads more machines than any other school, they don't appear to be using their MLE in a heavy way and don't use much in the way of iPlayer, youtube etc... using Wireshark, should I be able to see where all this internet connectivity is going to? I would love to be able to find out where this is going, there is a possibility that someone here is using torrents, though this didn't seem to come up in the wireshark report.... Are there any tools out there that will help me see what is going on here? Thanks in advance Tony

Hi The machines were logging off during lessons, not shutting down lke I had been told.... good old accurate reporting... There is a setting in Remote Desktop which lets you shut down Macs on a schedule with two options one that asks the user to save work or cancel shutdown (or something like that) and the other option will just shut down the machine with no choice. does that help at all? Tony
