Could be that the function/LCD/CRT combo has been pressed, the machine may not be off but looking for an external screen. when the screen goes off check if you can press function/LCD/CRT combo. there should be a button with probably blue writing on it with "Fn" and then one of the function buttons at the top i.e. f1.f2.f3.f4 etc... should have a little picture of a screen. try that.

We use BartPE with "snapshot" this works really well for us and is REALLY fast, build a machine over the network in about 5-6mins + config time of about 10-12mins

I know i keep banging on about kinston but thats all we use here, you can get them logo'd but i think you have to order quite a few to get this done.

I gete kingston for 2.90, i doubt they use recycled memory.

Well i never! fashion police for memory sticks. ;) I like the data travelers as they have a very strong key attachment. this means they very rarely get lost. i got the 2gb kingston drives for about 2.90 i think from Misco.

I was going to go iPhone but Orange have offered me my current contract which is £45 a month for 1200mins and unlimited texts with insurance included for £10 a month if i renew my contract. SO i would be getting 1200mins ( i use about 1000 ) unlimited text, unlimited data and insurance for £15 a month if i get the THC Touch HD.... that is crazy, I have looked at reviews and this phone seems to be doing really well.. opinions?

This may well have been covered in other posts but I don't think they accurately "fix" or suggest a fix for this problem. We currently run a 2003 network and the Media department ordered two iMacs and now want them on the domain, we were originally going to run them stand alone but will not work with the volume of video editing they want to do. there will only be 100 students *max* using them. we have a 2tb NAS in the server room to be used to save/backup the data as i couldn't realistically get them backed up on tape. Not yet anyway. Using the guide on here i have got the iMacs on the domain and they work fine. When logged in with a student account, this account has way too many rights and can see way too much as the security settings that work on the domain don't apply on the Macs. so, I would like the students to be able to see their shares only and see this mapped drive. The mapping is not a problem but the security issue of the students being able to see things they shouldn't, well I don't even know where to start. I am lost. thanks in advance for any ideas. Tony

I sent out an email yesterday telling staff that we were shutting the proxy down for 15 mins to run some tests. I got a reply this morning reading... "Hi Tony, I can not get Internet at home. Is this a general problem? *username*" myself and the other tech, laughed our backsides off...

Seconded We use Sophos for anti virus and Smoothwall 8 for filtering. wouldn't go near Sophos again, it is free for us which is the only reason i think we use it. It eats PC power. the amount of trouble on access scanning has caused on our old machines is incredible.

Hi Sometimes the students can log on when they haven't before depending on whether they wireless has been picked up. We set a GPO that has helped with logging on "always wait for the network at computer start and logon" we still have a few saving issues. the laptops have not been used on a wired network other than when they were built. I am going to have to factory reset the box at some point soon as I need to know the settings and perhaps change the channel it is on.

nope, it is generally ok for Admin accounts as they can then join the network. The problem is coming from students not being on the network so they can't log in... if you get what I mean.

Hi guys One of the office staff (finance), well her printer has been made unusable, time for a new mono laser. Recently I have been buying HP kit in terms of big network printers. This time i want something smaller that has good cost per page. I got stung earlier this year with the 2015d as i bought two and both went back for "essential repairs and upgrades" I only want something fairly small but at least up on the commercial scale, that is able to do a nice clean job on cheques and envelops. anyone with a good model? Yeah I have some connecting and some not, when they are connected though we have quite a lot of loss of data, as i mentioned ping replies are very sporadic. There is something going on where they laptops are not picking up the signal until after login, and for a user that doesn't have a cached local account this will affect them as well as the logon scripts not running so the student doens't have their my documents mapped etc. Tony

cynetrix here, 10 meg going to 20 soon, then 50 then 100.. we don't use any of their services as we have a Barracuda :spam1:filter and smoothwall 8.

Thank you for your reply, I will have a look into this, as the kit was put in without IT input from the school, we dont have the login details for the box... Will have to work around that, but that sounds good.
