Link here to a post about the new HP6550B, which uses a different docking station connector than all of the previous HP Laptops

Hi All I'm currently managing all of my iOS devices with Microsoft Endpoint Manager which works great. Enrolling devices, deploying apps, configuring home screen, all works great. I also have a suite of Mac's which I'd like to do the same thing but running into an issue with configuring the dock with specific apps and printing. I know people are going to recommend using JAMF or another MDM but I pretty much have it working as i'd like, bar the two issues above. Has anyone had any luck with these settings? The Mac's are domain joined and I use Papercut for printing. Cheers

Hi All, Hope this is the right place. Not technically a netbook... We're planning to buy a set of Lenovo Thinkpad Twists to use as a flexible IT resource. One of the things I've been asked to look at is charging. I think the HP elitepad has a 10 unit charger, and we'd like to have something similar for the Lenovo, but I don't know if it exists. Google searches have just lead me to normal docking stations, so I hoped someone here might have heard of something like this. Or if you have any other thoughts beyond a stack of shelves, with the power cords plugged in behind, that'd be great too... Thanks

Afternoon all, hopefully this will solve a lot of your headaches and answer two common Mac questions. Problem - Desktop wallpaper being centrally managed and dock showing question marks rather than network shares. Remedy: So, the problem with setting your desktop wallpaper on a networked Mac running Yosemite and above is that the network shared is mapped AFTER the preference kicks in to set the wallpaper. To fix this, I created the desktop.jpg and placed it in a network location which all users have read access to. I then created a automator script which takes an input (the full path of the desktop.jpg) and then sets the wallpaper. This script has a 2 second pause at the start to ensure it runs after network connections have occurred. I made a local folder on the client mac named "Scripts", set the rights to everyone read only and put the automator app in there (ensure the automator app has read access for all network users or you may get an access denied icon displaying for other users). Use profile manager to set a "launch at login" item to point at the script. Ensure "desktop lock picture" is OFF to allow the script to set the wallpaper. This flag is set under "restrictions" within Profile manager. Happy days. The second common question is about having network shares on the dock. Again, network shares are connected AFTER the dock settings, so the dock doesn't know where to look and unfortunately doesn't connect to the network shares after clicking the question mark. Same fix really, make an automator app to kill the dock after a 2 second pause. Add script to profile manager the same way as before. screen shots and example automator files attached (note, the paths in the automator script obviously relate to my place of work - just change the paths to match you needs). cheers WallpaperAndDockAps.zip

I'm looking at the future of classroom hook-ups. Right now we use HP Docking stations or nothing in the classrooms. These provide power and all of the rooms connections (ethernet, usb interactive, projector). The worry is that they only work with certain models of HP laptops and there is no support going forward. The promise of USB-C.. I'm not even sure on the standards are yet but I'm thinking that I can a USB-C port with Thunderbolt3 can Charge the laptop, have perfect video, and connect all of the sound, picture, interactive, etc. Devices on a single cable. Some questions, does having a lightening symbol next to the USB-C port mean that it can be charged via that port? is that the thunderbolt 3 symbol. I was looking at the HP Probook 640 G2, could I get a 100W USB-C dock and charge the laptop and provide all the rooms connectivity via the port? Has anyone done this yes? Going forward have every classroom geared with a single cable solution for power and connectivity, that would work with a variety PCs and Mac would be amazing.

OK folks, from a confirmed Apple-grump... my future mother-in-Law is after an iPod dock. It must be quite small and light as I have to lug it over to her in Kenya. She has the latest gen "iPod classic". What do you reckon folks? Edit: should have decent-ish speakers, and be mains powered, budget up to 100 notes
