I'm not sold. I don't get the point of holding on to dead accounts, i still think you should delete them. If you leave you leave end of story. If you come back later on you get a new account. If you come back and there's someone with your username you had before, you get a different one. you shouldn't have left If you come back after 12 months your files are gone anyway who cares about old e-mails. I'm far more interested in keeping staff files for a 12 months so we don't loose work created for the department and school. Its a you say tomato i say tomato argument. I don't see the point of having an account held in the system for no reason. Compared to holding onto them all in an OU like a shrine to the leavers The permission thing depends on your position and authority. I don't need general access but I do need access if needed. I don't need to ask for that permission if its within my role which this is. So you sync their account with the sync tool then just copy paste the data off to wherever you're storing it?

I don't like leaving accounts in the system it's bad practice in my opinion. I don't need anyone's permission to do anything

How do you find doing this for large amounts of data? We have some staff with 100gb of data. Its ashame the sharepoint upload tool thing doesn't go both ways Student wise i guess it would be fairly easy. I like the idea of the Onedrive account setup to store this. It will be a good option for when my SAN dies.

Yea i'd ideally want them out the system completely just retaining their files. From what i can see so far i have to connect to their drive and download a copy to store. Won't be an issue for students but staff spaces are pretty big in a lot of cases.

Hi Guys We're hosting all our user files in OneDrive now and I've only just thought about what we're doing for leavers files. Staff and students. Previously we'd take the staff or student server hosted documents folder and backup to a SAN. We'd keep staff for about a year and students for as long as we has space. Do i need to go into leavers OneDrive and download the files back to SAN to store a copy or is there a better way. I'd be interested in what you're all doing

Basically then i'm already using azure adfs for a few things as i have Adobe, AccessIT and quite a few other services connecting straight to Azure If i find out the services we use that are being pushed through ADFS for authentication and move them to azure all I'll needed AD connect for is syncing details with on prem to the cloud until we're at a point where we don't need on prem anymore.

We're planning on removing adfs as we're planning on moving serverless. I have most of this planned and understand it The bit i don't get is what do i use when i remove adfs Well what's best to use in a school? I'm guessing there is an azure equivalent i just can't pin down the name. Plenty of guidance on how to remove adfs but there is then a mixed list of alternatives. passthrough, hash password and so on Short term i'm still using AD so the AD connect can still run to sync. Longer term i want to remove the AD and domain and run straight from azure and endpoint.

Dan we've moved files using the sharepoint migration tool. works off a CSV. There are some OneDrive conversations in the cloud forum detailing how to install oneDrive so its machine based rather than user based. We then redirect the my docs to onedrive so the student can't save locally. Staff are happy as the desktops backup to oneDrive as well Staff shares are more complicated and ideally need to be done using teams or Sharepoint or a bit of both

We keep getting the miracast banner crashing for some users. Mostly its because of a connection issue or they forget to disconnect when they leave. It leaves them unable to use the laptop until the sign out and in again. the dll is Windows.Internal.PlatformExtension.MiracastBannerExperience.dll If i take ownership and then rename it say to Windows.Internal.PlatformExtension.MiracastBannerExperienceA.dll it stops the banner. Wondering if anyone else had experience this before or had any tips for connecting to screens using miracast or widi using the windows connect sections. Is there was way to reset the screen connection without restarting the laptop? Thanks

Do it with teams we do it for year group stuff make a team with all the staff in. Start a meeting and share the screen of the device you want everyone to see. Staff join the meeting and put the meeting on the room display

There are things for ms to work on with teams. We still get issues here and there but I'd say some of it is behaviour and should be treated a such. We do have one thing though weve noticed this week as we have some staff off and students off. If a teacher has set a calendar entry for a lesson and we add a teacher to cover the lesson that teacher can't change the restrictions for the presentation. Not a major problem but I think MS need to have a think about the meeting control parts. They could be better. Maybe a teams admin could override the meeting setting or something

The ability to record or not is set in the teams policies. You need to disable it then its greyed out

Steve you may be right from the looks of it. I'll have a dig through the guidance teachers have been given on arranging the meeting. I dont remember seeing this on said guide. As far as I can remember they're just setting the meeting for a time and date and putting it as the team name rather than using attendees

I'm getting reports from staff of students being able to do the following in a team meeting Students muting staff during the lesson And Students are kicking other students out of the lesson We're using sds to build the groups. Staff are creating the teams using the new suggested team button so the team is being made correctly. I've created various policies and applied them to the students with a script I'm going to test this during the week as a test account in a few teams. Wondering if anyone had experienced the same issues and what was done to resolve them. Thanks

its working now after the change and they've improved it. You can tick now to have the teams create automatically or you can click a button they've added to see all the groups you are owner of to create the class yourself.

I'd give them chromebooks if you could buy some in bulk. I'd need nearly 500 I've spoken to our account manager at Smoothwall and apparently they can filter off prem through the on prem box. Not sure how but it mgith have me having to buy something just for some Ipads. Also iPads are fantastic. Get a license on Endpoint and you can manage them for basically free.

I'm using Salamander to export the csvs for SDS. Is there a way to draw out the reg groups using the same tool? If not I'm guessing I need to export reports for the students in each reg group then use powershell to import them into groups named using the same script. If anyone has such a script let me know
