  1. I've gone for one account per tablet, just in case someone adds a payment method to one device. You may need to register at Amazon from different places as it seems to track your IP as well I've made kindlex@.... emal addresses just for this
  2. Hi Jobos, Have a look at the threads above, the instructions with the toolbox show you how to allow downloads from google play store, you can get teams from there. The remove bloat from the toolbox is especially helpful Do you have teams installed and not working or not installed?
  3. The toolbox has made the fire into a very useable device.. Does anyone know if there's a way to clone one device to another? I tried 'backup' one device, then set up second device to point of allow USB connections etc, tried to restore the backup I'd made but nothing happened.. Looks like a labour of love coming my way..
  4. What's the SIMS teacher app? I work with an infant school that uses SIMS and the only way I have of getting SIMS out to them is using the SUMS application.
  5. This is getting very very close. I've used the toolbox, used the Microsoft Ui, which is pretty nice and now have a dummy user working on Teams. Overall, for fifty quid, these could be a gamechanger. I have no recent experience with Kindle Fires. 2 hurdles so far - I've only tried chat so far The Kindle can make a video chat but can't receive one, it just gets an alert saying it missed it The video feed from the kindle looks like it is magnifying / zooming in quite a bit. I wonder if I've got a screen resolutio issue. (I shared 2 images from a PC on desktop teams app and these came across okay).
  6. The major use for the kindle will be 365 (mainly teams) and some online apps. The Microsoft launcher looks really nice for this. Its in an infant school, so 'less is better' will be the rule here. Probably edge, chrome (for their subscribed websites), teams and possibly one note and one drive.
  7. Thank you for the toolbox link. I've been working through How to Add Google Chrome to an Amazon Fire Tablet (techjunkie.com) so far I'll definitely have a work through the toolbox. Got Chrome and Teams working so far. Looks like 365 on line, via office.com doesn't work very well on chrome on fire - seems to block a few parts of the page. I think I hate Kindle Fires (oops, did I type out loud)
  8. I've just been given 10 - looks like they can get out through the proxy. I guess I'll have to make an amazon account.. All we want them to do is browse the interweb from home, so users can get to teams and 365 online plus some other websites
  9. Thank you for the link, I've run through that. Perhaps I should have run your command the Get-... before I made the changes I can now see from that command I've got 'OneDrive for Business' as recording mode. Looking through the rest of that command output makes me wonder if there are a lot more options for teams Meeting Policies that are actually available than the gui gives us.. I'm not a powershell expert, but I'm pretty good at copy and paste. update.. reading through that output I can see that a fair few tags are showing Stream, I'll have a look at those policies
  10. Another update. I’ve rebooted and patched the SCCM server a few times since the original post and now things seem to be working (but not for all builds)
  11. Thanks Mako. Had you previously made the changes to not store recordings in Stream?
  12. I have this problem and some more info that may help. It seems that if you start a meeting using 'Meet Now' and then record it the videos only show up as 'download' and as some of the posts on here have shown, it seems impossible to delete them. The info regarding recordings being held in oeDrive / Stream / Sharepoint seems to only apply to recordings of scheduled meetings, not meet now meetings. This brings another question - is there a way to set a policy to prohibit meet only meetings attendees from recording the meeting? Is there a policy to prevent anyone / everyone organising meet only meetings? Is there anyone here that has defintiley set up ttheir teams to use 'save recordings to onedrive' who can run a simple 'meet now', record it and confirm the location of the recording?
  13. Hello, I use SCCM - latest reelase etc on a 2012R2 box and use task Sequence to build machines. All was working fine until I added a UPN to the domain (reason is that the on premises domain was set as school.county.sch.uk and should have been school.city.sch.uk and the school email already in 365. Since then, no Task Sequence builds have worked. i don't think I changed anything else since between a success and a failure. Another thing I noticed is that multicasting became painfully slow. The task sequences have a catch at the end to write the logs back to the server, that also failed. The 'built' PC actaullay boots up, but nothing I try lets me log into it. It hasn't registered in dns, ad or config manager What I've tried. Turned off multicast - back to previous speeds Applied last months patches and rebooted - no difference Made a new wim (used dism to grab just the one I wanted) - lot smaller, so faster, so quicker to fail. I can happily deploy software etc from Config Manager, but can't build any new machines. Sure I spotted something one day on this, but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas? Ta... EDIT - oddest thing. Went to the PC about an hour later to try again, to discover it was sat there - domain joined. It is joined to the 'initial' (county) domain, not the extra UPN (city) domain. Also config manager not installed, part of boot.
  14. I may have found the culprit.. The inetpub\logs file was eating my disk space, so not enough space to load the patch files and do whatever it does with them >>>>>update. Deleted 25GB of this stuff. Patch update went through <<<<
  15. I've got a network with a few HyperV 2016 servers all being updated from a HyperV SCCM This month all the patches have applied to the servers - except to the SCCM server itself. Everything has been updated fine for the last 18 months or so. We did update the SCCM itself this month and I have rebooted the SCCM server a few times Not a great deal is showing in event logs etc. error 8706 ... Content download failed.. This is the same content which has downloaded happily (and is doing as I type) to all the other HyperVs..
  16. I'm generally a right miserable beggar complaining about everything, so here goes... I started working with these folks a few weeks ago and I genuinely cannot praise their approach highly enough. I work with a (relatively) small school, so only a small opportunity for them. That mattered not a jot. I hit a strange snag, that was a bit of a nightmare. Andy got Veeam involved and sorted it. Result - I didn't have a sleepless night last night and today I am super cheerful. Well, as super cheerful as I ever get. Fantastic service, above and beyond.
  17. Maybe run them in batches - maybe 1-6 in each room in one Device Collection (eg Numbers1to6) 7-12 in another one (eg Humber7to12)
  18. Hi Bugzi, I completely run SCCM in an infant school and I also us eit heavily in a Central Govt role. As ChrisC says - pop some queries in here I'm sure you'll get loads of really useful answers and ideas (I do!!)
  19. I'd say that if budget and facilities permit, install SCCM. Then you can make very precise copies of the versions of Windows you want. Also, ensure you use one of the Autumn release (eg 1909) rather than a spring one (eg 2004), as they are supported for a longer time
  20. An update on the work in progress. Teams groups are special groups and are 'hidden' from general view. I made a new group called 'Pupils-Policy' and added all pupils to this. In the settings for the group I turned off a few of the options. Then in the exchange admin centre I made a few mail flow rules. If they try to send or receive the email is blocked, sender not informed, but the email is automatically re-directed to the safeguarding group. This seems to be working okay
  21. I deliberately gave all the pupils accounts starting with pu_ so they are all together in the listings. My task tonight is to make a new group “pu_group” add one test account there and work with the exchange admin rules on that. I’ll put a comment back on here to let folks know how it is going
  22. One thing I would say for 365 is to make sure that you have full powershell admin access available to you. Also, make sure you update powershell help files. So much of 365 admin seems to revolve around powershell and the need to login to your 365 in various ways. I'm busily working my way through 'Powershell in a month of lunches' - I like to be able to understand what I'm copying from t'web
  23. The answer to this question is probably "I wouldn't have started from there". Here's the challenge - I work with an infant school who has 365 and has been adopting it very slowly until "We need all the pupils on Teams this afternoon" I found the powershells to add users to 365 then add those users to Teams groups. I've used some of the policies available but limited. My problem is that I now need to do that "Let's sit down together and work out exactly what you need" on a live system. The first issue I've caused my self is that all these users have school based email. Following this link https://canopyit.com/restrict-email-office-365/ I can pick out users or groups and block emails. The test is working okay. The problem is that I can't locate the Teams name in the look up for the block. I suspect that either the Team is somehow hidden or I need to add all these users to a different sort of group which the mail rule can find In addition, does anyone have a 'Best practices for rolling out 365 in a primary school' link handy? Thanks for any help
  24. Thanks for this reply - just run into the same 'challenge'. Just a quick query before I let loose on one of them, after you run it, what does the licencing show and are there any licence number changes needed?
  25. Thanks for that I was thinking along same lines. I'll do a controlled shutdown of the server at the first chance and see how long it takes. I suspect longer than 5 minutes, but things shutting down always seem to take longer when you watch them!!
