  1. Hi Foofighterjim - thank you for that - the link from marci had a pop up which showed the detail about checking the admin account
  2. Brilliant link Marci - thank you for that.
  3. I can't find a definitive answer to this, maybe you folks can help.. Microsoft claim (and Google claim similar) that when you save to 365 it's immediately duplicated over several servers and also backed up. I've been asked by a very knowledgeable bursar 'how do we know that the data is retained in UK? if it's retained / copied elsewhere what does that do to GDPR compliance". This is one of the schools who still enjoy the benefit of SIMS ID and their response of 'we'll have a document in April' isn't really helping. Does anyone know the answer to this? With UK out of EU soon, does that also mean the EU/US safe harbour agreement is meaningless?
  4. I've run the bios update through, rebooted, thrown away device driver and re-installed, rebooted, ipconfig -flushdns and finally I'm seeing the internet on the laptop as a 'guest user' in the other school. Thanks folkss for the help and ideas - it's possibly the bios what done it! Ah - i may have spoken too soon - its not a rock solid connection, but my mac beside it in the same school network (which is rock solid - touch wood) has had no hiccups ..
  5. I've brought the laptop into another school that also has unifi, and I have a guest network here - again same problem. I will try Bios / firmware updates and see where that gets me - I did get the wireless driver from the lenovo site earlier today. No clues in the laptop event log. This has scuppered a thoughI had, in that somehow the laptop ahd got 'poisoned' info about its own network. Yes, thank you, that is the link I used - I got there from the serial number. Just running the bios and chipset utilities through.. Why does methink I'll be doing them all soon if this works .. What I really cant figure is why its happy with my mobile hot spot?
  6. I’m not aware of a policy like that in place. Other win10 (currently) talking happy. This machine chats to my mobile hot spot.. now where’s the bl**dy confused emoji
  7. It’s just wpa2 , yep I did try a fresh SSID same issue. I didn’t have really detailed look in logs -
  8. No I dont think so - badge on bottom shows 20ex-s00e00
  9. In a small school with just a few Windows 10 laptops all identical. Or they were. The school has unifi network which is at 5.6.22 One laptop has stopped connecting to anything offered by unifi, yet its wireless can connect via my iphone hotspotting. I've checked two machines against each other, wifi driver etc identical. Problem machine is windows 10 version 1703 OS 15063.608 happy chappie (if happy and Windows 10 can go together!!) is 1703 and 15063.483 update - I've found another happy lappie on 15063.608 with same wifi device and driver as the problem PC... UPDATE 2 - poorly lappie did a windows update on reboot (it was hard cabled in) and has come back as 15063.726 and still not connecting to the unifi network I have tried disabling wireless and re-enabling, I've unistalled and re-installed the device and I've also bashed my head agianst the wall several times to no avail!! On problem machine I have used windows tools to reset network, I'v done ipconfig -flush dns and netsh winsock reset Always getting the same problem - after short delay it appears to connect, then drops then tries again then fails. I'v added new wifi networks at unifi controller level, same problem all the time. The machines are Lenovos with AMDa10 chipsets, Atheros QCA61x4 wireless and driver 4.0.2.262 dated 27/10/2016 Any suggestions?? Or are they all going to fail as Windows 10 updates??
  10. I've replied on this post as I'm seeing issues with the latest updater with Cleverlynx - I've downloaded and installed the software on a few machines. I'm now being nagged to update it 'this will be a big update warning'. Following a link to download the new installer Win7 / 64 bit .exe file, I've compared file copies of what I've installed and what I'm being told I need - and they are the same. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?
  11. Hi Ricki I’m only in the school one day per week and I feel you’ve nailed it, it might just be a case of when!!
  12. Ah - it’s possibly win10 photos doing it - my test was 8 20MB images from my phone. Of course it worked while I was doing it!!
  13. In Newcastle get on river and walk west then turn around to see all the bridges - picture 4 (I think) on here https://mikemcsharry.co.uk/image-selection/
  14. Hi Matthew, I had spotted that it was trying to do that, I’m fairly sure it’s all TCP/IP and or server share. I wish I could actually recreate the problem!!
  15. Hi Ricki - your info from spiceworks was exactly what i was looking for, the code I've put in above uses the pstools download from sysinternals - that lets a user run a simple batch file on a specified PC against the print spooler on the server does that set of tasks.. I agree about drivers - there's nothing in the event logs to give me any clues, but hopefully this is a bit better for them and for me
  16. sorry - I cn see line breaks didn't appear above. This one is odd, I ccan't repeat it -but I think I've fixed it - I gave the admin full control of the spool/printers folder and then made a batch file in c:windows\system32 that changed directory to spool/printers and just deletes what's there. the psexec line now runs that batch file
  17. I know this is a fairly old thread but I'm having the same problem and I've nearly got a workaroud but not quite there. The problem we have is that when a user on a Windows 10 laptop prints it sometimes jams up the spooler. I've tried to re-create the problem but I can't. Konica printer on 2012R2 server. The way to fix it is to go to the server, login as admin stop print service, delete temp files and start print service again.. I'm not abou tot let the users loose on that. Picking up the threads above I've nearly succeeded with this script - this does launch a cmd file in the windows\system32 folder of my server at my desktop. So far so good, but I can't delete the printers folder contents >>> The problem I think we are all having is this one... If I go to the console of the serve and log on locally, make a batch file in c:\windows\system32 I can run it from psexec and I can run it locally. IF the batch file tries to get to the spool folder okay Getting to printers folder with batch file is prevented by something - but I don't know what!! I can browse to the spool\printers folder and delete the files no problem. pausef:\fixprintjam\psservice.exe \\svr-ois-dc01 -u ois\?????????? -p ?????????? stop "print spooler" pausef:\fixprintjam\psexec.exe \\svr-ois-dc01 -u ois\?????????? -p ?????????? cmdpausef:\fixprintjam\psservice.exe \\svr-ois-dc01 -u ois\?????????? -p ?????????? start "print spooler"pause
  18. I'm spotting a problem on logins on domain Pcs/laptops - all weindows 7 pro talking to a server 2012 On server I can see that the event log is filled with scicle errors 1202 I've followed through the info with the event itself and i've also been able to generate a winlogon.log file In the RSOP at the DC I can see it points to log on locally - the info with the event log tells you to look for the red marks The error mark are dropping in the domain controller security policy to start with - The error shows (at the domain controller) as 'no mapping between account names and security IDs the list in here on Group Policy comp config\windows setings\security settings\local policies\user rights assignment has red x at domain controller security policy in allow log on locally policy I see account operators administrators backup operators domain enterprise domain controllers domain\domain users print operators server operators noticed in the default domain policy that in same setting nothing at all defined in .../allow log on locally policy ================================== I then logged in to a pc as domain admin and found error also showing. PC is showing - logon as a service IIS-WPG NETWORK NETWORK SERVICE NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES SERVICE Again, nothing under restricted groups Nothing seems to be stopping the users working okay, but it doesn't feel that this is quite right .. Any suggestions? Before I go carving through this and make it match the 'suggested defaults' - eg domain users on the domain controller - is there anything I need to watch out for?
  19. Proxy settings via group policy?
  20. Hi Tracy Football .. that'd be Barney methinks. me - teach?? Most of that lot knew more than me , I just organised. Did any of the ideas here help you?
  21. Easy check for local admin - open cmd window and type net localgroup administrators if she, or a group she is in, appear in the list, then you'll need to log in to that PC as domain admin and tpye net localgroup administrators "domain name\user name" /delete
  22. The info that follows may help for windows At a command prompt getmac will return the mac address of your card Are all your devices named? if so then using wmac with something like this echo %USERNAME%>%USERPROFILE%\desktop\%COMPUTERNAME%.txtwmic bios get serialnumber>>%USERPROFILE%\desktop\%COMPUTERNAME%.txt might generate the type of info tht you'll need to build up a new distribution Herding cats is also supposed to be good fun!!
  23. Hi Tracey How were the reservations managed previously? In a lot of cases IP reservations are based on the MAC address of the device, which is burnt in to the network card. Have you changed out your PCs or rebuilt them? If you have changed them out then you have 150 new MAC addresses so if your previous reservations were on MAC then the answer (if there is one!!) will be different from a rebuild with existing network cards. What devices do you have / did you have?
  24. Hi John Thank you so much for this reply last week, this was a real life saver for the school as I was able to grab the docstorgae and all the infor from the FMS backup regimes which were also needed. Mike
  25. Hi John - many thanks for the info, I'm trying that but when I open it or mount it, it only mounts showing system reserved g: drive with temp folder with text files . One of these files shows disk layout in virtual drive.. yaaayyy .. just found the other one. Now how do I thank you a hundred times!!
