The fact that you can access everything locally fine would rule out your local network though, I have had similar problems before and it has always been down to the managed router that I don't have access to having the wrong subnet mask set. Does a tracert from one of the affected PCs out to the Internet die at your router?

At an initial guess, since the netmask 255.255.252.0 would include both 10.75.44.xx and 10.75.45.xx in the same subnet, I would say that you have the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 set somewhere (possibly on the router) so that it can only access the 10.75.44.xx addresses

1 NM and 1 senior tech, we are an all-through independent (nursery to 6th form) on a large spread out site so it is a struggle sometimes - we used to have 1 NM, 1 Assistant NM, 2 tech when we were two separate sites and for a couple of years following merging onto one site. 700 kids/110 staff, about 500 PCs/laptops, plus IWB/projector in every classroom, and all the usual stuff (servers, wireless etc)

One part of the school was originally the headmaster's house (1908 build), with family bedrooms on the first floor and servants on the 2nd (loft) floor. The top floor definitely feels like something is up there but never had anything strange go on, I think people have died in that building though but I don't suppose it was uncommon for death at home all those years ago. When I'm working late for a function in the main hall the worst part of the trip to the nearest toilet is that you walk down a small corridor which used to be the family bathroom, into what was originally the family toilet. Very spooky at night. There's also supposed to have been a pupil commit suicide in one of the chemistry labs years ago but again could just have been a teacher making it up. It is spooky on your own in the dark though, in all the older parts of the building. Used to work at a night club which was originally a garage, the owner in the 1920s or so supposedly committed suicide (hanging from the rafters) and is supposed to haunt the place. The boss claims he has been in on his own and things have been thrown across the bar, or come down when he was in the office on his own to find all the beer taps had turned themselves on... again he could just be winding us all up. One of the bar maids lived in the flat next door though and is convinced she heard footsteps up the stairs to the boss's office through the wall, at times when the building was completely empty. Ghost is/was called Harold. Building has since been demolished and replaced with new council offices, wonder if they've noticed anything odd?

Used to use WDS with a load of unattend scripts, now I use MDT and I just use the windows ISO as a base image (i.e. I don't install stuff then re-capture and deploy). All application installs are then either as applications pushed through MDT (mostly things that don't supply an MSI so can't be done via group policy). Other software I have startup scripts that install where they are too complicated for group policy or cause problems with MDT (office doesn't reliably install from MDT if you also install Sophos at the same time, as Sophos updates itself after claiming it has completed install and Office then fails with "Another installation is in progress"). All-through with about 450 PCs/laptops here.

Same here, very slow to reply, I've been trying to import users (originally via Azure AD which took them a week to tell me was for SSO only and told me to use CSV... CSV import gives an error which they've not replied to yet after another week.) Would be good to hear from what other people are running instead for their libraries as we will be making the decision about this once we recruit a permanent new librarian in a couple of months. For the price you pay (especially for the hosted edition) you'd expect top notch support. You're not guaranteed it once it leaves Virgin's network and finds its way through to Gamma, gateway router is managed by Virgin and good luck getting them to set that up. Either way it's still cheaper than ISDN and it's only there for a year or two until we move the leased line over to Gamma.

Just came to setting it up again recently (it hasn't really been used since we went Eclipse Hosted in 2012, been paying for it all these years assuming the library actually used it). I preferred the locally installed version although not sure if that is supported any more, at least not the version we had which struggled to run on Win7. Interface is a bit slow but not sure if that's Virgin's fault or theirs. It supports linking to Azure AD but this seems to only be for SSO rather than for importing borrowers. We use RFID student cards for the till systems and was hoping to re-use these for the library but there doesn't seem to be a way to look these up or import automatically (we store the RFID value in the user's employeeID attribute in AD, the rate at which kids lose/break their cards means a manual import is not good enough as their new cards have new IDs). Also had problems importing from CSV and support are very slow to respond (started trying to import users 2 weeks ago, still not resolved). I know when we set it up in 2012 there was an ActiveX plugin that let you import from local AD but I never managed to get that to work reliably. One good point is that they seem to have abandoned Silverlight and now run a HTML5 based system. For the price they charge for hosted I just don't see it having that much value myself. Having said that I'm no librarian, they may find it has all sorts of wonderful features that I don't even know about.

You can't get QoS set on a Virgin leased line for SIP provided by a different provider. £46/month for FTTC plus the SIP trunk rentals is still cheaper than the rental on the ISDN30e it is replacing. Once we replace the Virgin with a Gamma leased line there will be no need for a separate line.

I've just had a quote from Lloyds IP (reselling Gamma) and for 100Mbps it's come in at £250/month cheaper than Virgin 100Mbps (Virgin's price was the cheapest by far when we first went out to tender in 2014, although they now want to put the price up despite everyone else dropping it). Our Virgin comes in over Openreach fibre as we're not in a Virgin area (so the standard cable modem option is not available) but so long as you have sufficient fibre already blown in you should be able to avoid any installation fees. We use a Gamma FTTC line for our SIP calls (and Gamma SIP trunks) and have had no problems at all with those. Virgin we have had one small bit of downtime but it was over a weekend and quickly fixed, however they are awful to deal with (they billed us for price increases despite us still being under minimum contract - took 2 months to get them to reverse and credit back the account. We're also 2 years into a 3 year contract and I've never spoken to the "dedicated account manager" and also not been given a login to their management platform yet despite asking multiple times)

The bottom one (or two on one of the trolleys) shelves on ours have gotten like that, at least here they seem to be breaking the cables at the same rate that they are breaking the laptops beyond repair so the broken shelves can just stay empty...

We don't use any of the three options (got a HP MSA2312 and a Hitatchi HUS110) We have RAID6 for everything except a LUN devoted to the SQL server, which ran RAID10 (although this has since been removed and converted to RAID6 as we got rid of the need for a local SQL server when our MIS went cloud hosted)

Ah yes knew I'd missed one step out - if you don't have access to the router you need to get whoever does to add a static route for all your VLANs pointing at your core switch IP as @MicrosoftTechy said.

What kind of database is it? There might be a setting to kick idle connections in MS SQL (or whatever it is), as to why it used to work fine.. maybe the default changed in an update? No idea.

Your core switch will need 10.4.192.150 set as the default gateway, any devices in VLAN1 will need 10.4.192.252 as their default gateway (set on the device e.g. by static or DHCP, not set on the switch), and any devices on the other VLANs will need the core switch interface IP on that specific vlan as their default gateway... that way all traffic goes to the core switch, then it handles anything across the VLANs itself and anything for the Internet goes out on 10.4.192.150.

I have just looked at this again, and it turns out the Group Policy Preference for a power plan doesn't actually work when you specify a "what to do when they close the lid"... however if you set it here: Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Button Settings it does work.

I found you had to save two copies of it, proxy.pac and wpad.dat as some browsers (usually everything except IE, although chrome seems to just use the IE settings) look for proxy.pac - not sure if this is still the case now in 2016 though. It then needs to be accessible at http://wpad.your.AD.domain/wpad.dat (and http://wpad.your.AD.domain/proxy.pac) and there is also a DHCP option you can set that DavetheITguy mentioned earlier.

Ours sometimes do this, it is usually a case of powering off/on the board, swapping to a different USB port, or replacing the USB->cat5 extenders that we have to use on the newer boards (due to USB cable length limits), Sometimes a pen just stops working for no reason and it's the pen at fault, in which case it gets binned and they get a new pen. The other thing to try if it is a new enough board to have teacher/student pens (dark grey/light grey), if there is interference it will stop one of them from working - we've had interference from an RFID door access controller on the other side of the wall stopping the teacher pen from working. Also had a room where we had to disable touch for unknown reasons (board worked fine in the corridor, get it 3 inches across the doorway and it was like someone mashing the mouse), in the end we just said the room was cursed.

Have you tried running a cable tester on the port? Also have you tried re-punching at the patch panel as well as the socket? (especially if it's #1 or #24 on a panel they are usually under quite a bit of stress from the cable bunch). We've also had PCs suddenly refuse to work unless you change switch port, then all is fine, but you said you've tried that. Is it set to Auto negotiate on the PC? It may be that it does the WOL running at 10Mbps and then when in Windows tries to go full gigabit and fails (since gigabit needs all 4 pairs).

You can also create your own update source hosted via IIS, then configure it as the secondary update source - useful if you are in a trust with centralised Sophos licensing and for some reason can't pre-set the sophos update credentials.

Okay I take this back, as the trial licence on my home server has expired and converted into the free edition - the feature comparison chart makes it look amazing but you can't even schedule a backup on the free one. But still a definite recommendation for the Enterprise version.

It pops up when you have connected to a network (even wired) if it can't talk to the test page to determine connectivity - so it assumes you are behind a filter that needs you to log on. The alternative to blocking URLs is just one reg key so you just need a computer level group policy preference registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\EnableActiveProbing - set to 0

Not using Impero but also have had the black screen issue. In the logs it looked like explorer.exe was repeadedly crashing. In the end I had to just re-image the PCs - I think it was roughly the same time I pushed out some software that adds itself to the explorer context menu (can't remember what it was, probably something like Acrobat reader) but only happened on random machines, and the head of computing said they did eventually launch explorer after about 10-15 minutes. However not had it reported since the end of November where we re-images the random selection of PCs that had the problem.
