I usually find a similar item then click to get the on screen view of the paper catalogue to look through, much easier than trying to work out if they've called the 3m sound cable you're after "lead" or "cable", and "sound" or "audio"... or "snd"... and whether they've put a space in "3 m" or not. Awful search

We also use Xibo on Intel ComputeSticks (used to use tiny Dell Optiplex which originally had XP embedded on). Also they have released the WebOS client as mentioned above for the newer LG screens, think it's £120 a go though (vs free for the windows client although obviously if you're buying new hardware it makes no difference really - we're using the £115 intel sticks for ours and just re-installing Win 10 Enterprise 32bit over the top of the Win 10 Home 32 bit)

Any port can be a trunk port, you just change the link type in the config.

We test the remotes by looking at them through a phone camera, press buttons and you can see it flashing on the screen. Got about 40 green slims and some of them the reach on the remote is pathetic, even with different remotes, so I'd say its probably the projector. How old are they?

Never used HAP+, but does it run as a specific account (like a service account)? Double check it's set for its password to never expire as expired password usually just gives "username or password incorrect" via IIS.

Has it booted far enough to get the command prompt? (F8 or F11 I think, forget which it is)... if it has then you can see if it's loaded the network driver with ipconfig and hopefully it'll put something useful in the logs on the RAM drive (X: I think?)

I've got my AC set at 18, so it's freezing stood next to it, but that keeps the temperature in the racks to 21-25C. Any higher and the rack temp creeps up.

Guessing they turned it off because "it's too cold to work in" then forgot to turn it back on? Can't think of any other reason for it to be off (e.g. turning it off on the way home). Even so the rule is "wear a fleece" rather than "turn the AC off". Hopefully the kit won't have got too hot - most kit tends to have quite a decent temperature range these days - but good luck getting it sorted out. This sort of thing is why we do kit installs ourselves - where we've had people in to do it they've configured things in a less than helpful way (software but also how they've cabled things etc). We have the expertise in house so why waste money paying someone else?

All depends if it's done properly or not. Properly done it's fine, otherwise death trap. By "properly done" I mean maglocks on relays connected to the fire alarm to release automatically and green exit break glass (which cuts the power to the mag lock, rather than just sending the "exit" signal to the Paxton box)

I've got a TPLink AP here, going to be adding a second eventually in the garage. Not used any of the managed side of it yet (as I only have one AP) but the kit seems good in general - also got a TP Link 24 port PoE switch. Can't remember which AP I have although I think it was around the £100 mark, just done a speed test and I get 270Mbps over wireless.

Nope, Diet Pepsi tastes a bit further away from full sugar Pepsi than Pepsi Max does - if I have to swap between them (cause one is sold out) I can tell I've changed. Not as far apart as Diet Coke and Coke Zero are though.

But copper has 8 wires, some Rx some Tx. So full duplex 1gb copper is 1gb up and 1gb down. So 2 x full duplex 1gb copper is more than the 1gb fibre run surely?

Pupils don't have cards/fobs (they use a code) so that'd stop it... plus the extra £120 or so to have a reader instead of an exit button

We have one of our ACUs wired into a fire relay (this is different to the fire relays which you wire the mag lock through, it's connecting to a sensor on the ACU). Never tried using ours for roll calls, problem we have is there's no "fob to exit" so it won't know who has left, and coming into the building if there's a group of people the first person will hold the door for the rest, who therefore don't fob in.

You get a Waste Transfer Note, and then a data destruction certificate for anything you've given them with hard drives. Not used them since GDPR so not sure what might have changed (actually need to book them in as the pile of old kit is starting to get a bit too big)

We use a local WEEE registered recycler, they don't buy the items but anything we give them with a resale value we end up with a "donation to the school", gets round all the issues of selling items etc. In the North West - the local one I use is Homepage - My Laptop Shop - it's free so worst case you have nothing of value, it's cost you nothing to get rid of it, otherwise you'll get cashback/donation. I've also use PRM Green in the past, but they didn't do any cashback/donation for any of the items - it was just free of charge collection PRM Green Technologies

Think I pay delivery on most of my suppliers (except maybe CPC which is free over a certain order value). Usually it is a fixed £10 or whatever. If I do huge orders from Scan I usually get a large delivery charge but they still beat everyone else even with that added on (e.g. think it cost me £60 delivery when I ordered a pallet of PC components and a pallet of monitors) I have been quoted for licensing which had a delivery charge - for an emailed licence key - made sure that didn't make it onto the invoice (it's probably a template with the delivery pre-filled out that they forgot to take off)

If I had a service contract I'd probably expect them to clean the camera (not necessarily take it apart but clean the domes as they get filthy) and maybe do something on the recorder, wouldn't expect them to need access to the switches etc unless there was a problem.

Used to use MDT to deploy Windows 10, now I use SCCM. MDT worked fine I just like the greater automation I can get with SCCM.

I'll post my solution once I've had time to tidy up the code and knock together some instructions - basically a powershell logon script which maps printers based on the computer name, or the security group the computer is in. It means manually keeping a list in the script but it runs an infinite (... well not quite it gives up after 10 attempts) loop on adding the printer until it stops failing (when debugging it mapped on second go through the loop), since changing over to this I've had nobody report printers randomly not mapping. No promises on when I'll get round to it as we're on summer holidays now so busy cabling/decorating the new office then moving everything.

I'll counter with "when it's not sunny outside", means I can walk outside without being blinded by the sun and instantly having a sneezing fit.

As a rough guide we paid £1500 + VAT for a small split system AC unit (3.5kW) which cools one of our comms rooms with a single rack with 15 switches, room is about 2m by 2m, including installation etc. It's not on an outside wall they just ran the pipework in the ceiling void of the room surrounding it. Main server room we paid £2600 + VAT for a 10kW split system (which is the main AC in our server room, approx 3m by 6m, cooling 3 racks of equipment). Smaller backup AC for main server room was £1600 + VAT for a 6kW system. These were all done late 2014, and in the North West so have probably gone up "because of Brexit" and will be more expensive the nearer you get to London. Priced included supply installation and labour, but we had to have our electricians put the power supply in so prices don't include that.
