Don't know about 1810, but not been able to buy the 1910 for a few years now (why I moved onto 1920 which you also can't buy any more)

So long as it's not 1920S! (We're mostly 1910 with a few 1920, really good switches for the money, they EOL'd the 1920 and replaced with 1920S which are absolutely awful web interface, pretty much unusable for us as half the settings don't exist. Got one of them)

Nice of MS to make it simple....! (All our ipads are smaller than 10.1" which is why I thought A1 was good for it.)

I was under the impression that the free ipad apps count as the online version, does it work on the ipad if you turn on "Office Online" and Onedrive (might be called Sharepoint in the list), and turn off Pro Plus? If it does work without proplus turned on then it'll work on the A1 plan.

A1 is free, A5 is expensive.

As far as I'm aware you don't need ProPlus for this (as that's for licensing the desktop version), however you will need Onedrive and Office Online turned on - Word etc on ipads is designed to be used as part of Office 365 with everything saving to the OneDrive (although it will allow local storage access too).

My 2nd gen i3s are 6 years old, the desktops probably have a few years life left in them (4GB RAM and 128GB SSDs). The 2nd gen i3 laptops, only fit for the bin really. If I was buying refurb kit today I'd probably want a 4th gen, possibly 3rd gen if it made the difference between being able to afford it or not. Probably wouldn't go for a 2nd gen.

We allow EXEs in the Documents\Visual Studio 2013 folder, the main purpose of our EXE block is to stop accidental execution of nasties e.g. of EXEs disguised as PDFs and the like. -

That's how I do it for the old (pre-Microsoft) version. But this is the windows store app version

Someone complained to Virgin (think it was on Twitter or in the paper, can't remember) that Manchester to Euston anytime return (standard class) - at £338 or so - was more expensive than flying to New York. Another person said it was cheaper to fly to Moscow and have a night in a 5 star hotel. Their reply? "If you booked in advance you could have done it for £23".

The task should run from the cache though, i.e. copies to c:\windows\ccmcache\$id and runs from there... not really got enough time to mess with this, how have they managed to make it worse than the java version was for automated install....

Well it doesn't work deployed with SCCM but does if run manually (running the script provided in the downloaded zip).

The script is the one that comes in the zip file, massive powershell script which appears to install it on the machine then provision it for all users.

So can computers be on both Azure AD and standard local Windows Server AD at the same time? I've managed to get it installed by using a scripted install (ran manually), at least it opens to a white screen which I'm guessing is all I'll get over remote control if it's all hardware accelerated etc. Just waiting for SCCM's usual "you changed something, now wait a day before anything happens" to see if the scripted install works via SCCM.

Has anybody managed to deploy Minecraft Education from the Windows Education store, preferably using SCCM? I've tried with the offline installer, just extracting the files and following the Application wizard with an "appxbundle". It seems to install but when you try and run it you get "File system error" on the PC. It looks like I might have to set up the Windows Business Store and do it that way? Although what I've read implies the PCs need to be Azure AD joined. Can this be done as part of a task sequence? What difference does this make to anything, the PCs are all currently joined to the AD domain in the normal way. All rather confusing and in the long run might be easier to just cough up the Java costs and stick with the old MinecraftEDU we use.

Had confirmation back from the trust, we don't have a group licence so we'd need to get a one-off licence. Which takes 24 hours excluding weekends. If they'd told me they wanted to play a DVD last week I'd have happily sorted it out for them, but land it on me on Friday afternoon for a showing the following day? Never gonna happen. They'd also get a serious kicking from the trust legal if they tried to sack me over refusing to break the law, especially with a good record over the past 14 years I've been here. If they want it that much they can play it themselves.

Disagree - it is definitely not my job to break the law. Take it to the extreme and it's the head asking me to kill somebody.

Looked at that - ended up at https://www.independentcinemaoffice.org.uk/advice-support/what-licences-do-i-need/film-copyright-licensing/ and came to the conclusion we either have an unlimited use licence for the trust, or we don't and need to get a one-off. Either way, until somebody proves otherwise I'm sitting with "not licensed, no showing". Luckily the deputy head I'm going to tell this is leaving in 3 weeks.

We're an independent so not covered by the DfE "state school education licensing" anyway - so we might already have a licence that covers public use as a way of covering our classroom use. Not happy - deputy head has landed the DVD on my desk with "play it, I'll take responsibility". No, you cannot force me to break the law as part of my employment!

Looking into it, we must have a licence to show films already as we show them in lessons - and only state schools can show them in lessons without having to sort their own licence (as the DfE does it). Either that or we're doing that illegally. Will have to wait and see what the trust says

Ah the joy of 1 days notice. Going to see if the trust already has an "unlimited usage" licence, if not they can sort a one-off today. Or if nobody gets back to me in time, no film. (It's going to have the sound off, and everybody will be sat round tables having a meal not looking at it... not quite sure why they want it)

Windows 1803 and above, ADFS and SSO not working anymore

Not much help but we're on 1803 and have no issues with ADFS SSO (also in a complicated forest so can't use anything except ADFS), so doesn't look to be a general 1803 bug. Edit: Think we're actually in the same forest, so has to be something to do with your domain (pretty sure I recognise your name from the network managers list!) Will do some testing tomorrow, as I've had onedrivemapper fail recently but think it's just on users that have the internal domain UPN -
+! for PRM, used to use them and we always got a WEEE transfer note, followed shortly by the data destruction certificate listing the make/serial of all hard drives taken away. Free and you usually get a couple of mugs out of it. Changed to a local company now who do give us cashback if we throw anything away that has a value (usually only get anything decent for switches/routers) but as they're a small operation they don't do nationwide collection.
