Depends. On our HP SAN (Which just holds a replica of the veeam backups) I just buy WD Red drives and swap them myself, just use the drive carriers from the expensive drives that I got with the thing in the first place. The WD drives seem to fail less than the HP ones too. Hitachi one is under maintenance which means they come and do the firmware updates and they also come and do drive swaps (and we don't pay for the drives). Now we're into year 6 with multiple drive failures a year it works out cheaper for the maintenance than if we were just buying the drives ourselves.

I've seen a 3 projector wide multi image one before, the problem is if you get people in who don't need them all on and one gets more lamp usage and ends up being less bright than the others, when you have all three on it becomes obvious. As for stacking them I'd imagine the slightest movement might push them out of alignment though.

Was thinking along those lines, one of those plus a projector with a serial port. Hahahaha. Budget is £1000 max, so might struggle as we spent about £4000 last time. Hoping by moving the projector to a 10m throw instead of 30m we can get into more of a budget category without needing to buy long throw lenses. Really all I want is something with remote controlled zoom and focus, as we don't have ladders long enough to reach the truss, but no projector manufacturers seem to specify if they have this or not (besides casio).

I'd have thought most hall style projectors were networked these days? Although the current one is networked but it's too complicated to expect a teacher to use that as a means of turning it on/off. The current one is 4000 lumens from 30m and it's bright enough with the lights off, so 5000 from 10m should be fine (image is projected onto the back of the stage so there's no windows anywhere near it)

I'm thinking about replacing the hall projector when we get new lighting rigs (so I can hang it off the front truss) but no idea what to get. Currently got a Sony VPL-FX40 with the insanely-long-throw lens on it, sat in a projection room at the back of the hall. Pros are it's easy to get to, cons are the throw is almost 30m so it's not too bright, and you have to stand on one leg in a specific spot on the floor to get the remote to work. We're 100% Casio LED everywhere else in the school, but willing to go with something else for the hall. Main thing I want is the focus and zoom to be done via the remote control rather than by manually twisting bits of the lens - so we can focus it without ladders once it's in the air - but looking at 4-5000 lumens. (The Casio Green Slim have a great zoom and do zoom/focus via the remote but they only go up to 3000 lumens) Probably looking at (really wild guess here) 8m wide image, and the projector is going to need to be about 10m away from the screen. Does anyone have anything they'd recommend?

To determine if there is connectivity it needs to be able to access http://www.msftncsi.com without needing to authenticate, try adding this in on smoothwall to be allowed without authentication. Although not sure why it works with DNS set to google but not to your domain - can you resolve msftncsi.com through your internal DNS servers?

Ours are the same as iSAMS is set for AD authentication as is the SQL server, but you need to have permissions on the SQL server to get at SSRS, again ours aren't hosted by iSAMS so will probably be set up differently.

It's in between Portal Management and Administration on the left hand bar, then go into SQL Reporting Manager, then Load Reporting Manager. Ours is hosted by our trust on Azure rather than directly by iSAMS. If you don't have Network Management -> SQL Reporting Manager then you won't be able to allocate reports to the iSAMS interface. You might still be able to make and run reports if you know the SSRS server's hostname just try that in a browser. If it's hosted then drop iSAMS support an email and they'll be able to tell you where to look.

Go into the web interface for your SSRS server (from iSAMS go to Network Management, then there's a button somewhere in there which opens it). You can then browse through the folder structure and download items which open in Visual Studio with data services installed.

At the time we were 3com but now you mentioned what it was, this is also how I fixed the slow DHCP problem a decade ago Glad you got it sorted out.

I had an issue with DHCP being slow in some areas.... unfortunately can't remember how I solved it

Pause button on the keyboard on the client, it's at the top near Scroll Lock and Print Screen. If DHCP is being slow, hitting Pause while it tries to get an IP, waiting a bit then hitting Enter to resume will give it a bit more time to respond. (Obviously not a fix but a good troubleshooting item)

To add to this, I've found that although option 66 is called "Boot Server Host Name" it only works if you put in the IP rather than hostname.

Third (or is it fourth)-ing an experience. My 30th birthday present from work was a gliding lesson, wasn't asked what I wanted they just surprised me with it (knowing that I love rollercoasters so would probably love being flung into the air in a glider plane... they were correct)

What service/device are you using as your filtering to block it currently?

One thought if you're running the Unifi controller on the same host - the Unifi controller probably runs a TFTP server to push out firmware updates so that could be causing the problem, what happens if you disable the Unifi controller then restart the WDS service? At least just to rule it out if anything.

What happens when you try? Any errors? (If you're using legacy network boot rather than UEFI based you'll hopefully get error codes to say what's wrong) Make sure binlsvc service is running on the server (can't remember it's display name but you can net start binlsvc, this is the TFTP service that it uses to copy the boot files to the client's memory) Also double check properties on the server in WDS console is set to respond to clients on (I think) the PXE tab. Think the default is for it not to.

Yes but it took two buildings offline rather than a server. Infants school was cat5 linked to nursery which was fibre back to main building. Fibre patch lead in the nursery cab broke one day whilst locked in a cab - coincidentally around the same time they were doing drain works to a new housing development and they broke the duct containing the fibre - so we assumed they'd broke the fibre and was about to go mental at them when turned out it was the patch lead. Only happened once in 15 years though. My hosts have a 10Gb link plus two 1Gb teamed as backup/standby/failover (whatever the vmware terminology is), file server is a VM so it sits on that. Back when I had a physical file server it had 2 x 1Gb (and we had no 10Gb anywhere)

Doesn't even have to be running on Windows - we have 3 x Windows Server datacentre licences to cover all Windows VMs running on our 3 VMWare hosts.

"SystemConfiguration.OverBudgetException" in that error message - they've run out of money!

I've got it to redirect the Chrome profile to a network drive... however now every time Chrome is started there's a warning about the profile being on a network drive. Has anybody found a way to turn this off?

I was about to "me too" with the starting at 7... but I'm 33 next month so 20 years behind you! (Started with a 386 running Dos 5, all we had was dos games like crystal caves, dune 2 and the Direct Access menu system) Weird fact relating to this - I use the mouse with my left hand, but I'm right handed. Our first computer's desk was pushed up against a radiator so if you moused right handed you got burnt when the heating was on. I'm now rubbish at aiming the mouse with my right hand and can only really do it left handed - I don't invert the mouse buttons though as you couldn't do that when I started using a mouse. Left click is my middle finger, right click is index finger.

I would think if you spoke to two different people at ICO about it you'd also get two different answers! Shame that some of the more easily forseeable scenarios weren't documented "what do you have to do?" rather than it all being left up to interpretation.

Not had time to try anything with it yet. Probably going to abandon it until my new "test PCs" turn up (Very PC have run out of motherboards so they are now delayed, grrr). I was getting nowhere very slowly testing on two computers that take almost a minute to respond to me pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.
