  1. Hi all Obligatory 'I don't know where this should go because it covers so many areas'..I've been encountering an odd problem with files creating in Steinberg Dorico music notation software.. whenever any of our staff sends them as an email attachment, Microsoft Exchange Online protection wrong thinks the files are .jar malware. This is true for any Dorico files from any computer, sent from any mailbox (internal or other external services). Weirdly we get the exact same issue with another package called Musescore (maybe built on a common library?), but both sets of files are cleared by literally every other anti-malware system.Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Microsoft support seem to not comprehend the concept of a false-positive.. for obvious reasons I'd rather not just turn off detection of .jar files..Many thanks!
  2. Ooh we had this issue too! I don't know if it helped, but our findings in the end were that the button on the panel worked normal, while there was an issue with the handling of the button on the remote. Basically it acts as a toggle, but there's no cooldown for receiving a signal from it, so anything more than the shortest tap freezes and then immediately unfreezes. Once trained in the correct technique, our staff were happy.. far from a proper fix I know, but that's where we got to. I'll watch this also for any details on if they fixed this properly.
  3. Thanks everyone so far, definitely gives some more options to look into. I probably should add that in addition to a mac suite (all with keyboards and audio interfaces), we've also got a sound studio setup with it's own booth as part of the original build and it's well used. We'd be tending more towards pro-level software as for our students to be well prepared for the recording industry. Anyone with any experience of that kind of setup would be equally appreciated.
  4. Hi everyone. I've got that same old story- Macs were bought as part of a secondary school music dept newbuild and after 9 years of use are EoL. We're not looking to stay in the ecosystem because of cost. The thing I'm struggling with is a concensus as to what is a suitable replacement to Logic Pro is in schools- I'm pretty sure the answer is Cubase (far from our head of music's favourite), but it seems that Ableton, FL Studio, Studio One.. maybe Reaper.. all have some popularity too. Which do your schools use and why? Anyone out there sticking with Logic? Thanks in advance!
  5. Sorry to bring up and old thread, but for providence for anyone else struggling with this, I wanted to share how I managed to get this to work (UK) The blogs cover most of thesteps, but the key step is that you need to get Student A1 Plus licenses, which as noted you need to go through the SKU sign-up as an unlicensed student- BUT for this to work, your domain has to have been cleared by Microsoft as an Education institution. If the sign-up doesn't work, contact [email protected] and they can do this for you (additional note: they've been extremely efficient and helpful to me, definitely some of the good guys out there) Finally, I was getting "Exception: License unavailable – GetUser – early exit"- to remedy this, there's an FAQ that covers some of the common issues that says you need to run a powershell command against Azure: Connect-MsolService $objectId = Get-MsolServicePrincipal | ?{ $_.AppPrincipalId -eq "300e65c0-b3f4-4b46-b3d5-51d99dda4edf" } | select -ExpandProperty ObjectId Add-MsolRoleMember -RoleName "Company Administrator" -RoleMemberType ServicePrincipal -RoleMemberObjectId $objectId This should be enough to get anyone struggling through any issues.
  6. Hi all, I'm trying to use time machine to recover some macs across a network, I'm using a Mac Mini with the latest High Sierra update and Time Machine Server. I've tested taking and writing backups to a machine in my office and that works just fine. Problem is, when I go to our classroom and CMD+R to Time Machine, I can see the server listed, but it won't accept the admin credentials.. I've tested two admin accounts and one it shakes, even when it's correct, and the other it just drops back to the server selection screen with no output at all. Any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out that it works perfectly on one mac, and not on any others.. they're all on the same wired subnet with no firewalls between them, so it's not that. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi everyone, I've been asked to get our OneNote install to include the update to allow the embedding of Online Videos, as per: https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/Insert-online-videos-into-OneNote-2016-for-Windows-0a862f29-665c-43a5-9dd8-68009423cf7c but no matter what I do, I can't get the option to appear on our computers. I'm using the install of 2016 Professional Plus from our EES-OVS agreement, on Windows 10. I've got Windows update set to install updates for other programs and run update over and over until it shows no updates to install, but still no option in OneNote.. My research seems to suggest the feature was rolled out to OneNote ProPlus for Office 365 first, but was due to be featured in the updates for Office 2016 Professional in June 2016. I don't know if this is actually true or not though. Anyone else have experience of this feature? Thanks
  8. Would be good, but as noted Enterprise LTSB doesn't upgrade to 1703 yet... the upgrade helper just says it's up to date. My fault for installing the 'extra stable version for mission critical applications' /s
  9. Came here looking for solutions to the same / rant about how useless the start menu is. We have a small trial deployment to laptops we loan out to trainee teachers. Systems are AD domained to a 2012R2 domain, all users are on roaming profiles. A couple of months ago we started noticing that the Start Menus were becoming unresponsive, spreading throughout all of the machines. Once the start menu broke down, it was broken for all users of the computer. The were running Win10 Education at the time and I discovered that Edge was now missing (nothing I'd done) which I've observed will cause all of the apps to break usually. Get-appxpackage did still show other apps. My test VM with the same deployment was unaffected. We built a new image on LTSB 2016 and it seemed to be good, but now they're all slowly losing their start menu too.. once again my test VM is fine but maybe 5/15 devices to date have lost function of the start menu and I can't recover it. Again, once it happens it's for all users and only a reimage will fix it. Strangely this time Get-AppxPackage returns NOTHING- no output at all. Are all of the apps gone now? Since Business lines don't get major updates until 4 months later, the 1703 update for LTSB is still a couple of months off and won't sideload, as far as I can see. I am beyond frustrated with this, we're supposed to be moving students to Windows 10 this year, but with something as important as the start-menu not working I'm hesitant. I'm seriously tempted to just move to Classic Shell, but I truly believe MS will do something to prevent it/break it in the near future. I'd stick on 7 longer, but even beside the changes to update availability to new chipsets later this year, we're already finding machines that will ONLY run Windows 10 (eg Linx 1020). Any help would be most appreciated!
  10. Hi all, I'm building my deployment of Windows 10 and investigating UE-V as an alternative to roaming profiles, which I've always found buggy at best. My main question is, am I right in thinking that UE-V is unable to roam a user's Office 365 credentials/save passwords for Office 2016 links to cloud services? We've not currently deployed ADFS so up to now we've relied on profiles to roam the login details for a user's Office 365 account. Any feedback would be appreciated, along with if any recommendations for SSO if this isn't possible. Regards
  11. Terrible to be the only replies to my own post multiple times but here goes- seems this is a publicized change as of Jan 2016: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/3134824/information-about-changes-to-the-address-that-is-used-to-send-notification-email-messages-from-sharepoint-online Question is what is the recommended work-around, if one doesn't want to those groups to be receiving external emails?
  12. Ok, I've managed to make some progress. The issue seems to be caused by an interaction between a change in the sender displayed for the notifications (previously it spoofed the user, now it shows as [email protected]) and the Delivery Management for the group being set to 'Inside the organization only'. I'm not aware of any settings changes we've made to effect this, anyone notice this change also?
  13. Hi everyone, We're experiencing a troubling issue- 'Share' notification emails aren't going out from Sharepoint Online and OneDrive when documents / libraries / sites are shared to Groups. If shared with individual Members of the group, they go out just fine and if you email the group directly it works fine too.. This seems to have been the case for over a week now. Exchange mail-trace shows nothing either. The issue is with Microsoft support, but so far all we've had is a couple of 45-min phone calls for them to take screenshots... Has anyone else had experience of this?
  14. Hey Imgtfy that sounds great.. I was sure there must be some sneaky way to get a prompt auto-filled behind the scenes to skip them having to type it in. DM or reply in line would be awesome
  15. Hi Psydii, yes that's what I've configured, but for some reason the users have to put their email address in, then suddenly they get logged in by magic.. I'm having the hardest time figuring out if this is the intended behavior, or if there's something the configuration article doesn't say.. Interesting to know that ADFS is fully seamless at least, that is what I thought.
  16. Hi all, We've been an Office 365 site since the summer, but up until now have not implemented SSO (though we have used DirSync and then AADConnect). I've now installed the new update to allow SSO, but it only seems to mean that the Windows domain users don't have to type the password in the Office 365 portal or Office 2016 (but still have to type their email address)...... Isn't the idea of SSO to not require entering credentials multiple times, even username, other than Windows Login? Obviously users with local or roaming profiles can store credentials, but our Mandatory profile users can't get anything remembered.. As a secondary query, does anyone have experience / recommendations of any of the other SSO option (ADFS, RM Unify etc) and do they prevent any additional data having to be entered at login? Thank you in advance!
