  1. 16bit programs do not run in a 64 bit environment. Unless you actually run it on a 32bit system and then cobble together some way to present that to the user. Take this opportunity to move away from ancient programs like that. If it's that important they will have someone make another program to replace it. If it's not that important that they're willing to do that every 10 years, it's not that important for you to jump through so many hoops.
  2. How are you going to support staff who use a Mac at home and as such cannot open Bitlocker drives?
  3. It would be great to have built in classroom management and user monitoring systems.
  4. This bit seems to cover it but it's very complicated compared to Print Manager Plus. All you to in PMP is assign the Design Printer to the Design Printer Group and add funds to drop down box in the fund allocation property page of the user. In Papercut you do this: Example 2: Department/Faculty Quotas (Advanced) A much more advanced configuration is required when different departments/faculties/areas want to each have their own quotas that are only available for use by their users on their printers. Department quotas are also often combined with user cash payments which can be used anywhere on site. For a description of this scenario see the section called “Independently Managed Work Areas”. One prominent PaperCut customer, Cambridge University in the UK uses this configuration. At Cambridge each of the independent schools/colleges want to allocate quotas to their students at enrollment. These quotas may only be used on the printers owned by the school. Cambridge also offers user-paid printing, and where the cash can be used on any printer across the campus. The multiple personal account feature in PaperCut has been designed to meet the demanding requirements at The University of Cambridge and other leading colleges. This configuration requires the use of many advanced PaperCut features. This section gives a brief outline of how this is configured. • Enable multiple personal accounts and create the accounts for each of the work-areas or departments required. If users can also pay for printing, also create a cash account. The priority/order of the quota accounts is not important, as long as the "Cash" account appears last. The screenshot below shows a possible configuration. Example of an advanced account setup Figure 30.5. Example of an advanced account setup Press the Set Up Accounts button to start applying the change. • When the account setup is complete, select the "Cash" account as the account for user payments. To do this choose this account under the User payment accounts option. Then press the Apply button. • At this point all the accounts are enabled and can be used on any printers. To restrict the accounts that can be used on different printers, the Advanced Printer Scripting feature can be used (see Chapter 18, Advanced Scripting (Print Scripting)). The advanced scripting provides a method (actions.job.changePersonalAccountChargePriority) that allows for changing both the accounts available and their order/priority. The method is documented in detail in the section called “Script Actions”. For example, the following script snippet, shows how to limit the available accounts to only "Science Quotas" and "Cash" (in that order). actions.job.changePersonalAccountChargePriority(["Science Quotas", "Cash"]); • Departments can allocate initial quotas at enrollment or periodically throughout the year using the web-service APIs or server-command to adjust user balances. All the balances affecting APIs/commands have a parameter to specify which of the accounts to adjust/set. For example, to use server-command to set the balance of the "Science Quotas" account to $10.00 for all members of the "Science Students" group: server-command set-user-account-balance-by-group "Science Students" 10.0 \ "Enrollment quota" "Science Quotas" This technique can be integrated with existing student management systems to automate the allocation of free print quota at the time of enrollment. For more information on web-service APIs or server-command see the section called “The XML Web Services API” and the section called “Server Commands (server-command)”. With the power of Advanced Print Scripting and Multiple Personal Accounts much can be achieved. Large universities and colleges needing this level of flexibility also tend to have very competent IT staff. Take some time to bounce around some ideas. Here are a few: • Use advanced print scripting to tune on/off access to accounts based on conditions such as group membership, time of day, device, etc. • Automate account management tasks such as free quota assignment on course enrollment using scripts. • Complex rules on which accounts are used and under which conditions, need to be clearly explained to users. Take some time to document this and communicate policy with staff/students/members.
  5. But how do I set it up so: Pupils get £2 on General Printers Pupils get £0 on Design Printers until they buy some. When they print to Design Printers an amount per page is taken from that 'pot' of cash only - the amount they have to spend on the other printers in unaffected. When I had Papercut in the past it wasn't possible. All funds added went to the same 'pot of cash' for that pupil and printing from any printer removed the credit from it.
  6. We used to use Papercut and I really liked how it worked but had to move as it didn't support people having more than one account to debit which is what we needed. We moved to Print Manager Plus but I'm still not a fan after years of it. Any scripts in Papercut to enable us to allocate different funds to different printers? So say an engtineering student put £5 on to print in that department but had a recurring £2 topup for general ICT printers?
  7. We use AB Tutor. Much cheaper and has loads of features.
  8. Seem to have fixed this by adding in ASP to IIS and ensuring all items in the Application Pool were set to run in 32bit mode.
  9. I'm installing Sage 200 and getting an error that the account I'm specifying 'S200Services' needs to be in the 'Sage 200 Admins' group, but it is a member already. I've deleted and recreated the user but the error remains. Any ideas?
  10. I don't use them silly, it was just an example of if more IPs is the only reason you're looking at them, then it's not the only solution.
  11. Forget vLANs unless you have a need to implement them for security or network segmentation reasons. They add complication and overhead to all network traffic. Why not just change your subnet? We're on 255.255.224.0 which gives us 4000 IP addresses. There's no need to fiddle with tagging ports, making sure you've connected devices with static IPs into the correct port or anything like that.
  12. You can browse the Camera Roll on a Suupervised iPad connected to a Windows computer via USB. Edu-IT. You purchase the app on VPP using an account which will not login to the iTunes Store as it is a different type of account. You get a spreadsheet of unlock codes which you import into Apple Configurator with the App. I am struggling to find out how you acquire an app installer without buying a copy first. At the moment I have to login to iTunes using an account that can and make a purchase of the app so I can download it. I then have to login to the VPP store using another account to buy the discounted licenses. As we only have 20 loaner iPads I have to buy 21 licenses in total - 20 at a discount and another at full price in the iTunes store to get the actual app installed.
  13. Apps sold are subject to a levee of 30% to Apple. A free app that required a subscription to a service enables Microsoft to not pass any revenue onto Apple.
  14. I'd love to live in the dales but couldn't take the wage drop from NM
  15. OSTicket here. It's free and a lot lighter than Spiceworks if you don't desire all the extra gubbings.
  16. We use BookIt which is free and was hosted at steelers-fc.co.uk/slimjims but seems to be down. AD integration, Periods not times, editable, modifiable.
  17. Just learnt there's Microsoft inTune cloud management for mobile devices, going to investigate that.
  18. Which is Apple's solution? Apple Configurator?
  19. Just seen there's a new version 7.1.5 available which addresses this issue, tried it, same problem.
  20. I have the same problem here. They are working on a fix but it's not arriving fast enough for my liking.
  21. As far as I'm aware Microsoft only ever ship the latest version. You might be able to track down old stock or a second hand copy.
  22. Ours would hav erequired us to pay them a fee for each device they took, so made more sense to throw them.
  23. The problem with BSF was - it wasted money. All our PCs are capable of performing whatever is needed of them, yet when BSF take ofer we throw them out. Why? We just spent 50k on machines this year. That's the problem. The CDT department have 3 £10,000 lathes things. Under BSF they get thrown out and replaced with something else just so it's supported by the company taking over. Waste, is what BSF was doing. Waste is what the new government have to erradicate. That's what they're doing. Any new government would be faced with the same situation we're in, and the 'biggest school build since the Victorian era' isn't what we can afford as a nation right now.
