I don't know Ricoh devices but with Sharp you have to delete and re add the card machine to the device, in the web interface for the Ricoh is there a section for card readers?

Can you pull any logs from the UPS at the time, see if there was a spike or anything like that? Very odd one and hard to pin point but start looking at any logs and see if you notice anything similar in the two times.

It's worrying how many big places are using older systems out there with lots of data in them, the smaller orginisations are doing their bit to keep up to date yet in public sector money is been chucked at these bigger places and they are not moving with the times and don't seem to be penalised for the risk in their IT estate. You have to keep moving with the times, yes it costs but there isn't much you can do about it.

Our view would be we supply you a device use it. The problem is using personal devices although things might be internet facing its controlling how that data is on that machine, if its lost it will be unencrypted and if teacher X has class details list on their machine thats a data breach. It's like if email is added to a phone and you don't have a password set you are prompted to before you can go any furhter. Also you don't know what viruses etc they have on their machine which would spread on your BYOD network or even be uploaded if files are saved up. You are just opening yourself up and a can of worms, for your own protection, the orginisation and individuals if you already provide a work device enfore they use that. How would you feel if your bank allowed its staff to use thier own machines, had a copy of data (which they shouldn't in theory but we know does happen) on their machine which wasnt encryped and it was stolen or taken as part of ransomware attack on that machine. The orginisation would be fined but the individual, and would staff want to pay up to the ICO? If there is a problem with the devices they are using speak to them find out whats wrong? I'm sure there wont be but for everyones protection put measures in place if they are using their own devices to protect everyone.

phpipam for IP management, just install it on a Linux box, uses minimal resources and intergrates with AD.

If you are happy with what you have migrate the server to be hosted in Azure, that is what I am doing. I wouldn't use anything other than PaperCut these days.

Do you need the pair? Unless you have dual routers from your ISP you still have a single point of failure. Just a thought to keep costs down. I think Watchguard is well worth the money, some things you just need to spend it on it.

@mavhc you can have a public IP address on business packages rather than CGNAT. - - - Updated - - - Any good firewall will allow dual connections, you could use Pfsense, Watchguard both would support. There are others available.

@PotNoddleTech, for us its not just about the extra 0.99% but the fact we dont have to run 2 data centres, licensing costs for VMware have gone through the roof, none of which would be needed moving to Azure, there is more resilience there which we need for a 24/ operation, less hardware to maintain, reducing our energy costs overall the figures work out massive cheaper. @titch we will be having a VPN into Azure and will run NPS/Radius in the cloud, like we do now. Our firewalls have DHCP and DNS and each of our sites have access to to the data centres, most of our sites are already remote so its just a different location but a remote to each site. At the end of our migration we will not have any servers other than a PC at some sites hosting our images to PXE boot from to reimage. Our single point of failure is our connections on sites we HA our cores firewalls but the rest of the kit is not capable, we have 2 internet connections which helps us out but there is always going to be a point of failure somewhere unless you have more money than sense to throw at a network, likely hood if you loose that somethign else is going wrong.

Some interesting points there, a number of which we have already got on the list. We are going to install our own virtual firewall although not cheap its something we are used to working with. Interesting point re UK South and West will note that.

License costs are starting to make it expesive to host on site and the fact hardware is more expensive. We are due a hardware refresh and licenses are coming to and end and its looking cheaper to move to Azure believe it or not.

If you have a company such as Shredit, they will take them and they even shred hard drives. Sure any other similar company would do the same, we had a box full done a few years ago.

Some services are not SASS ready yet for some of what we use so servers are needed, weather that be on site or a VM in Azure. For PaperCut I would look at migrating the VM to Azure, no plans to move to Hive or anything else.

Something worth discussion and has been on my radar for some time. With more and more traffic moving to HTTPS how much HTTP traffic do you actually see on your network going to the internet? We have been tightening up our firewall policies recently and this was one I thought about. When I did a search of logs to see what HTTP traffic there was it was very little, mainly to Microsoft if I recall, so by blocking HTTP and only allowing it to what is needed could you see any issues? Might help with some of those rogue websites and help with the security of any data leaving site. Not made the move yet but wondered what you all thought?

We are on premises setup, multi sites back to our data centre, everywhere I've worked thats how its beeen for years. Costs are going up with hardware renewal and licenses so cloud is what we are looking at. No issues with it, if it works great then no issues. Yes you are reliant on your connection but if we loose connection now sites cannot connect back so no change really. Has anyone moved yet? If so you moved everything or done a hybird? I've been on a course this week looking at it as an Administrator, we don't touch anything in the limited presence we have, just curious for things to look out for, what to do not do etc. We have only looked at Microsoft but I am keen to have a nosey at Amazon's offerings, what are you using? This is for our servers side of things only.
