Afternoon, We currently block .exe files running from pupil users directories (and staff) but would like to allow our GCSE Computer Science pupils the ability to run .exe generated files from %username%\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\* It is currently blocked by group policy. We I want to create the GPO and assign it to a security group of which the pupils (and teaching staff) will be part of. I cannot for the life of me remember where to do this and how to make it override the 'Stop All .exe' policy we have. ANy advice? Cheers Gareth

Evening All, The other year when I started running people on the forum sponsored me for running a 5K. Now several years on I am about to run the Swansea 10K and the Cardiff Half Marathon. So if anyone fancies donating to a charity called CISS (Cancer Information Support Services) then please feel free. Any amount would be cool. I have not been here for a while so understand if nobody does. But even £1 goes to helping families who deal with losing someone from cancer. I've decided against supporting a larger charity this year as they get a lot of coverage. Link: Gareth Edmondson is fundraising for Cancer Information And Support Services (C I S S) Thanks everyone, Gareth

Morning All, I wonder if anyone has some sort of script or idea on how to do the following: Every morning we put a laptop in the staffroom for teachers to enter morning messages that need to be told to pupils during the morning registration period. Messages like 'The singing teacher is here lunch time'. We are trying to force the teachers to get these messages into the electronic system instead of having teachers orally present them in the morning. What we want to do is get a system in place that runs in the browser and enables teachers to log in, post a message and have it appear at the right time and right date (possibly with filtering based on Year group). It would run when the teacher opens their browser in the morning. I was thinking of Wordpress but not sure what sort of template to use - also setting user accounts up would be a nightmare - unless I only use a general username that everyone knows. Does this make sense? A daily announcement system that can be posted to (possibly by email from outside the school as well). Cheers in advance, Gareth

I thought as much - trying to remember a checklist of things to move over will be fun. Thanks Gareth

Three years ago our LEA gave us an HP file server - it was running 2003R2(64bit). It had 6 hard drives. Two were in a RAID array for the OS and then the others were storage in a separate RAID formation. This device hosts our DHCP on the OS side and all files, pupil files, apps, packages etc are on the other array. In a move to standardise everything across the school and upgrade our base systems I want to see this server running 2008R2 - but do not want to go through a fresh install. Has anyone ever done an inplace upgrade using 2008R2 media? Will it update everything else - as in DHCP? Will it spoil any shares that are in place? What should I be looking for? The issue is that the LEA will not support this. They don't have the time to do it and are happy to sit on 2003R2, Gareth

Has anyone got the 2012 drivers for HP P2000 G3 iSCSI MSA 2 - 2012 Drivers? They are not on the supplied CD and I cannot find them on the support website. Cheers Gareth

Weird one this week - reset one of our nodes in the HyperV2012 (have I got the terminology right?) and it came back up but had switched the main connection NIC to DHCP and removed the static IP address we had given it - so it lost connection to the other host. In addition the virtual switches also lost their static ip addresses and switched to dhcp. All because we restarted the server. Luckily we are not fully up and running yet (SAN arriving tomorrow I think). @rich_tech migrated the virtual machines over from the broken machine to the other one and it all worked fine. When we get the SAN hopefully this will happen automatically. Anyone seen this sort of behaviour before? Gareth

pCounter on on 2008R2 on HyperV

No - they are KM drivers for MFDs Gareth -
Afternoon, I wonder if anyone has had issues running pCounter (Altman) on a virtualised 2008R2 machine in HyperV2012 We have it setup - I can map a printer via IP address but when we send it to the printer through the pCounter mapped drive it reaches the printer queue but doesn't reach the printer. I know I'm missing something - but what? Gareth

Office is happy with that one. Now the next one. In the report writing screen, there is a Preview button. When this is pressed SIMS goes away and collates the whole report which can take upwards of 60 seconds. It collates the whole report, but only populates the subject which is being written. Without changing the template is there a way of getting it only to preview the currently written report? Staff are writing too much but do not see this until reports are printed in full. If they could preview as pdf or something similar then it would improve quality assurance across the school. Gareth

I believe it is Profiles 7. I've grabbed the instruction manual today at 170 pages so will work through it when I have time - but there must be an easy way of doing it. Our reports follow a standard template which is made in an xml file (and imported into Word to print). So it's just a case of the teacher running the report, SIMS recognising which group or pupil or subject it is and then creating the output. Nobody seems to know how to do it. Gareth

Afternoon, Out SIMS installation is controlled by our LEA. Any questions we have usually go to them and they look into it. However I have decided today to come here with some. I'm not the SIMS administrator although I'm sure I could pick it up pretty easily. My first question is about reports: Heads of Department are moaning that they cannot print out a class set of reports. So what happens now is that the Office print out all the reports and collate them into some sort of order before handing them back to the HoD for correction. Is there a way of printing out class sets - for example I have just written my reports for Year 7 Class B - 25 pupils. How can I create the report that prints just that class for me to take home or export into pdf so I can review later - or even so I can review on the screen there and then? MY second question is about report previewing: When we try and preview a report for a single pupil it takes ages because SIMS is generating the whole report. Is there a way of setting it so it only previews the current pupil that you are working on in your subject? Finally: Can anyone tell me how to get SIMS to display the accents when cutting and pasting from Word? In Welsh we have accents over certain letters. If you put these accents into a comment bank they work but some departments like to cut and paste their standard reports from Word into the SIMS editor. When they are printed the printer (Or SIMS) is replacing these characters with a code. Any way of avoiding this? Anybody help? Cheers Gareth

Evening People, Can anyone tell me if we should be able to access DreamSpark Standard as part of our EES purchase? Isn't it part of the deal? Many thanks Gareth

Why not add it to your reference image? Gareth -
Hmmm I doubt it. Never mind. It was nothing - just made me think. Thanks all Gareth

Hiya @glennda It's a start. We will get it all in place and then when more funding comes through will get some extra hard drives for it. Gareth

No. Been in my pocket. Could have been a coincidence Could they read text through my orange mobile online account? Gareth

It was a pupil and my phone is not jailbroken nor has left my sight all day. GJE

Stupid question but I think someone is messing with my icloud account - can you tell me is it possible to read texts online if imessage is turned off? Someone said something to me today that kind of indicated they had read a text. Yet they had not seen my phone. Gareth
