Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
2ilent8cho replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
The last 2 primaries to join our trust had this backup database issue, our 2 finance officers were not happy, fuming to put it mildly. They are now looking at Parent Pay alternatives since they own ESS. -
A3 as were 1:1 in the whole trust with iPads so need it for the Office for iPad licensing.

On Outlook for Mac I always revert to legacy Outlook, I cannot stand the new version, it just looks awful. Wasted space, bad layout, I cannot understand who is designing this stuff and think it's an improvement. But then again I think Microsoft and user interface design has been getting worse and worse for many years.

Macbook Air/Pro M1 model - OS Update Longevity?
2ilent8cho replied to TheHyperTechie's topic in Hardware
SLT have the 16" M1 Pro's and they do feel bulkier and heavier than my Intel 2019 16" which is the previous design (with Touch Bar). My favourite from a size/weight trade off is the 15" Air, but they are only available in M2/M3. If you are on the fence do you have an Apple Store or Currys near by you could use to get a feel for the weight and size of the 16" Pro? As the 16" is the same design M1 to M4. -
Macbook Air/Pro M1 model - OS Update Longevity?
2ilent8cho replied to TheHyperTechie's topic in Hardware
We have several hundreds M1 Airs and Pro's in our Trust, we expect at least another 3 years of macOS updates to be released. macOS 15 still supports some Intel based Mac's like my 2019 16" Pro, so I don't expect M1 to be dropped until at least 1 year after Intel is dropped if not longer. -
No, Season 2 ends on a cliff hanger. Season 1 has 6 episodes, I was watching Episode 5 of season 2, and the way it ended made me really want episode 6, and its then I found out there is only 5 episode is season 2, I was not happy! Season 3 has already been filmed though, and I read from the beginning it was suppose to be a trilogy season wise.

Came across 'The Devils Hour' at the weekend, got hooked and binged on 2 seasons and now I want season 3.

Windows Server 2025 is now generally available
2ilent8cho replied to Cat_Jam148's topic in Windows Server 2025
We buy this tool that plugs in to the AD Users and Computers and then got rid of our Onsite Exchange boxes at the schools we support. https://www.easy365manager.com/ . -
Lightspeed. You just set the email for the device owner in the MDM, deploy the agent to the iPads with a config profile too and it's all seamless to the user. No login required by the students and you get real time safeguarding alerts. Integrates with Office 365 too so will scan their emails and OneDrives.

I've not done any SSRS on iSAMS for about 6 years, but the only thing that comes to mind is they did revamp the Medical Centre module 2 or 3 years ago, it use to be called Sanatorium , could it be records from the old module name/table?

macOS Intune (Endpoint Manager) Platform SSO
2ilent8cho replied to VBallantyne's topic in Cloud Services
No, plenty of Microsoft channels in there such as Microsoft-teams, Microsoft-onedrive , I believe some of the Microsoft Mac engineers sometimes hangout in some of the channels too. It's a handy place. -
macOS Intune (Endpoint Manager) Platform SSO
2ilent8cho replied to VBallantyne's topic in Cloud Services
I've been watching Platform SSO for over a year now, looks like it's finally close to working. Have you tried asking on MacAdmins on Slack? There is a channel called platform-sso which seems like the most useful place for information. -

Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
2ilent8cho replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
Had 2 schools recently join our Trust, so currently in the process of moving them from SIMS. Will be another next year too. So thats another 3 SIMS users gone. Glad we moved our first school off SIMS 8 years ago we were fed up with it then, and it looks no different now after 8 years. -
You could also use Shift-Option-Command-R instead of Command-R on startup and it should allow you to install the macOS the machine shipped with instead of High Sierra. Which may at least get macOS back on the device which you can then upgrade or use bootcamp.
-
I notice that is High Sierra, there is an issue with internet recovery and that specific version of macOS. This video should hopefully give the information you need to fix

I'm not sure if JAMF School is the same as JAMF Pro, but it does the Mac Polices in name order, so special characters like * get done first. So I have a policy called *Install Rosetta to make sure its on before any apps the require it start installing.
-
This command will install rosetta, we have it run as our first policy when building Mac's in JAMF Pro. "/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license"
-
Single App mode would work, just need to find an app that ticks your boxes.

They are rolling monthly, but you can turn it off for up to 6 months apparently. https://help.smarty.co.uk/en/articles/952720-how-do-i-pause-my-plan
-
I've had 4 sims before on my Smarty account https://smarty.co.uk/all-plans with auto payment billing my school credit card. They start at £6 a month. Was useful for unlimited data and pupils with no concept of data Edit: Just noticed they do group plans allowing upto 8 sims. https://smarty.co.uk/group-plans
-
When we dumped SIMS we used https://www.timetabler.com/ instead of Nova T6. Sounds like they don't want the hassle of learning a new program and want to stay on Nova T6 until they retire.

SEN 'Read aloud' solution for Exams Papers
2ilent8cho replied to petben's topic in How do you do....it?
Having seen the more recent demos of ChatGPT 4o where it can view your screen and read the data and talk like a human would that do the job? iPad, take a photo and get it to read what it sees/contents?
