  1. anyone?
  2. Good Morning all, having a few issues with WSUS (server 2008 R2 box), I installed it a few weeks ago on a few testing machines they all read 98% complete 99% but never actually install the updates fully? any ideas?
  3. I'd stay away from the elitepads we had a couple to test, weigh alot, clunky things. Be interesting how this works out for you, we have looked at the windows tablets but choosen to stay away for now because of price. Could really be a game changer if they sort out the app store and pricing in education.
  4. Just think with a probation period you have a structure if things do not go as well as planned and they cant just say bye bye after two weeks after you have left a perm postion. Also think that this inturn lowers the pool of good applications.
  5. wow... I know the feeling we spent 32 Hours in our office once rebuilding ours from backups! it had eveything on it, profiles, data the whole whack! Rememeber to put back the permissions as well as the data! Good Luck
  6. Good Morning (I don’t know if I’m allowed to do this and admins please feel free to delete if not) However after my battle with cancer this year I have decided to do the Leeds to Liverpool cannel bike ride in aid of the teenage cancer trust, in one day riding 127 miles! Please see below my blog of my battle and the just giving page, Even if it’s a £1 it all makes a difference! Im not looking for sympathy just your hard earned money. START THE WEEK ON A POSITIVE AND THE SIMS GODS WILL BE WITH YOU! Blog - 9 weeks of bliss... Donations - Richard Boynton is fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust
  7. I’d jump for the chance of applying, if it wasn’t temp to perm. I believe it should have a probation period not temp basis. With temp work they can don’t have to give any reason to get rid and could get someone in with hundreds of ideas and employ someone on less to implement them.
  8. they want to be able to seperate the "tracks" and edit some parts also....
  9. We have the same issue every year and want to combat it before next year after the hassle of this year! Drama record countless hours of "acting" on flip or such like camera's we then show them how to use the converting software. They play "dumb" and we end up converting and burning the DVD's. Does anyone of or have a handheld recorder that links to a PC/Mac that records to .Vob so it can be burnt to DVD without the hassle? Everything nowadays seems to write to mp4, and for some reason the exam board only accepts it in this format (like they dont use a laptop to play it on anyway). Tar

    The future

I was thinking at exact same thing yesterday! maybe with the holidays here we have to much time to think. For me I want to go into something like service delivery, service desk manager of a large company ect or project management. I have choosen this year not to go on the same old MS courses and start doing my ITIL, Prince ect. What I found with people moving into industry they need to take a pay cut to then move back up the ladder to huge pay differances. Something I cant or am not willing to do!
  11. Any company wanting the the business should do it fee. When we looked at doing it, each company did one then provided a quote. That however is for one college not 50+ then not getting the business and been weeks of man hours down

    Yr 11 Pranks!

At 0830 yesterday we had a year 13 kid plastic wrapped 3ft up a tree it was a cracking effort and everyone saw the funny side he must have been there 40 minutes. He didnt look happy. However today will be the test... we are sending them home early which they "dont" know to try avoid anthing stupid.
  13. I rolled it back uninstalled it all and did it again, without entering proxy details and all worked! maybe should have tried that before running into here.... Thanks
  14. Currently installing WSUS on server 2008 R2 and getting this error after entering the proxy details I know there correct because we only have one... any ideas anyone? Using @Michael 's guide....
  15. We looked into this, our insurance company clearly stated we do not cover students equipment it is on them. So we added this to the AUP. Sent out a email to all students and their parents informing them of this. have not have an issue.... (YET!)
  16. I have a work phone, it very hard to switch off (mentally) on an evening with it sat there. Some staff have in the past tried to abuse it, I found a stern word the next day solved the issue. It is however a very catch 22 situation people feel because you have the phone they can contact you at anytime. Get the ground rules set out about the phone. My boss's know if it is ugent I will check my emails and voicemail during an evening monday to friday and there is no chance of getting me at a weekend. It a mix of work and play and it can get very mixed up in the education market. As stated before teachers work very strange hours and for 6 weeks at a time, ask them if they are always contactable in the holidays? or try ringing the teachers on there home phone on a half term and see what their repsonse is.... Teachers live in a teaching world it not similar to mine or yours...
  17. We give them 20 credits each per week, no matter who you are. These roll over so if you do not use them you can save them! Students 10 credits no roll over. Caused WW3 however cut our printing budget down by 20k in year one. We allow department heads to purchase additional credits at £20 per 400 credits. Black and white is 1 credit, colour 2, duplex black and white 1.5, duplex colour 3. Really made staff think about how they worked and in turn the use of our VLE has gone through the roof.
  18. trying to use it so the IT teaching staff can use it and narrow it down to a certain group.
  19. Morning all, We are looking for some software accessible by all staff that can track users log on and log off times. This is so the ICT teacher can track how long a certain exam accounts have been used for. Previous we used a bespoke bit of software that sat on the proxy server; however we have changed this now. I know software like impero does this but we are looking for cheap or free? I know we can script this but would like a nice friendly interface for staff to use.
  20. always full of anger on Edugeek..... He will be missed, alot more than none united fans think!
  21. Good afternoon hope everyone is enjoying the first day with the kids back (password reset day) My question is does anyone have a link or could send me to look at their social media policy? I have been tasked with sorting one out / updating ours Also wouldnt it be great to have a policy section on here where we can pool our generic policies (nudge admins)
  22. wish i'd seen this sooner....
  23. with schools/colleges turing into ever increasing academys IT Manager roles seem to be shifting over to Director of IT roles. I know in my area alot of network manager job titles seem to have moved to "director". This is something I have asked for in my performance management review also. Also looks better on a CV. In my views within a school the IT manager role will be the same as a Director role, when you get into larger uni's/colleges the job role will start to change some what.
  24. @AJWhite1970 I'd say ive pretty much cracked it now with one GP for XP users and Windows 7 users all under one hat! some unreal messing around though! Testing in a classroom next!
  25. Well everyone a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all your help I not know what I did, but it now works! I was messing around with removing video links and pictures links from the explore menu and it worked! I had done a GPupdate after every change but o well it works! Now to work out why, before it stops again! The wonderful world of windows 7 migration continues.... Egypt next week!
