you could do that, and as SIMS uses the ID of the resultset rather than the name to identify it, changing the name won't have much effect. Alternatively, you could add another formula into your templates to calculate the Most recent result and store it in a new resultset. We call ours "Most Recent". This has the advantage of being able to use this in SIMS analysis and Discover graphs without having to update it every data drop.

I think what Phil was trying to say is you need a specific permission in SIMS to see this fields as it isn't available for the typical member of staff, for the reason he states.

If the admission number is blank on marksheets then it sounds like you don't have permissions to see that data. The lack of permissions would also have the effect of hiding the field from you in the reporting engine. If you had full permissions this is what fields should be available to you

"Event viewer | Windows Logs | Application Logs" then go to the time you last ran it

Is there any more detail in the Windows application logs?

Are form tutors on the timetable or taken from the pastoral structure? It may be that the timetable hasn't been applied from today's date.

For 7 year groups and 15 subjects assuming there were only colour formulas (and their prerequisites) for 4 data drops then I estimate I could do them all in about 4 hours with the processes and tools I have available to me. Add in another hour for testing and another 2-3 hours for documentation and marksheet configuration plus categorisation you are probably looking at a little over a days work (depending on how detailed you make the documentation).

Using the keys can be more efficient, but only if supported by a coherent naming convention for both column headings and for aspect names/result sets. Without those, you are still resorting to stopping and scrolling up and down lists of names (usually with a mouse) looking for the item you want. This is why it is good practice to generate a master template layout with naming conventions before you start.

Yes, this is possible, we do this sort of thing for our supported schools all the time. I'd recommend going on the Assessment Manager training offered by your SSU/Capita to get familiar with how to do it and the quickest ways to do it. Capita's courses run to 3 days in total so to even just cover the bits you'd need would take a while over the forums and you'd probably miss most of the subtleties you get by attending a good training course. Based on the limited info provided I would say it can be done with 4 formula columns on each template, though cloning may reduce the need for doing it on all templates.

The only one I am aware of that has that functionality as part of its product is The Document Management Server Assistant for SIMS (Business I.T. Systems Ltd - DMSA for SIMS | Batch scan). It's primarily a scanning product but has some nice other features for dealing with linked documents.

There are 3rd party products that link to SIMS that can do this. There is currently no functionality within SIMS itself to do this task.

that error is helpfully telling you it can't find the signature file. There should be 2 files, the SQL script and another with almost the same name, except it has an additional extension of .signature

On the SIMS.net Home page, there is a link to Documentation (towards the top right), at the bottom of the Page it opens up is a link to SIMS Permissions which should display a spreadsheet with all permission groups in that give access to all menu routes. In this instance, Assessment Coordinator is the only one with access to this menu route.

If you do change the academic year start date, you may want to read KB-479101 - After changing the start date of the next Academic Year, the Pastoral Structure still shows the original chosen date

Request that patch 11602 is applied to your SIMS database, this will reset the password for the SIMS user "Sysman" to "password" (just make sure you change it and record it securely in a timely manner after the patch has been applied)

Do a contact based report with a filter of a current associated student. Or if you want to distribute them through the students, make sure the mailing points are up to date and run based on the oldest sibling.

I've Googled some of the other parent communication apps and can't find any of them with public facing documents about the technical details. They all require me to either contact them directly or log in.

Ask your SIMS support team for Patch 18632 and the accompanying documentation and DBDiag script. This will let you merge 2 staff.

When a person is created in SIMS they are given their initial role, if they only have a role of User, then they were created in system manager and don't have a personal record yet. All you need to do is go into the personnel screen and add someone with the same forename and surname, this should bring up a Matched People screen where you can select the person with a role of User and this will give them a role of employee too.
