  1. Hi, Has anyone had any issues with desktop icons not appearing when a user logs in when using a redirected desktop (to a server share) ? Occasionally the desktop icons are not displayed but a quick right-click and 'Refresh' brings them back . When they're not displayed only the Recycle Bin is on the desktop. This has been an issue since I started the job. All I can do at the moment is tell people to right-click and Refresh if and when it happens. I've toyed around with some group policy settings to see if those are to blame but to no avail. It happens randomly and intermittently. Two words us techies just love. W7 machines on Server 2012 R2. Cheers for any help
  2. Cheers Dave, I'll give them a try on Monday. As far as I know, the licence I applied for is good for 1250 devices and doesn't rely on the Network Licence Manager being installed so thought it would just work!
  3. Yeah seen that and PDQ is what I'm deploying with but it's the licence part that doesn't seem to want to work, not the deployment itself. Thanks anyway.
  4. Hi all, I'm trying deploy AutoCAD 2018 and followed, AFAIK, all the necessary steps. 1. Applied for educational licence (3yr) and received licence details in an email (attachment 1) 2. Downloaded and created a deployment share for the software on the server 3. Deployed it to a couple of test machines It installs without problems then pops up with a notice about data collection then prompts user to accept a privacy statement but then another prompt (image 1) appears with two choices, either Run (in 30 day trial mode) or Activate. I thought by hard-coding the serial number and product ID into the ini file when creating the deployment would mean activation is automatic and users won't be prompted for activation? If I choose Activate, the Product Licence Activation Options windows appears (attachment 2) containing the s/n and product ID from the deployment ini file so I know it's reading this fine. In this window, if I select 'Connect now and activate' if takes me to another window (attachment 3) where it wants me to log in or create an Autodesk user ID. There's no way to run the software other an 30 trial mode so at the moment our pupils can't use the software at all and I'm stumped as to why Anyone had similar issues? Any help would be great. Thank you.
  5. Excellent! Not often that I get in there before they pull the free stuff [emoji41] .
  6. I shifted our iPad management and config from Configurator (awful) to Configurator 2 (again, awful) to, finally, Meraki Systems Manager. Couldn't go back after using Meraki it's quite simply a much better way. Initially all our devices were enrolled in an earlier version of Systems Manager which offered enrollment of unlimited devices but we switched to the new interface which continues to be free but only for the first 100 enrolled devices. This was a while back so things might have changed since. Integrates very well with VPP and DEP.
  7. Setting "Allow traffic between wireless clients to "all" did the trick. The options were were "all", "802.1x", "IPv6" and "No". Tried "802.1x" and this didn't work, didn't bother with "IPv6". So now this is enabled on the Guest WiFi, we can now cast to Chromecast and a colleagues VR headsets also now show up as connected and content is able to be pushed to these. The iPads are the only remaining issue, they are connected to the curriculum network to allow for staff to AirPrint to our printers which are also on the curriculum network. If I put the iPads on the guest WiFI in order to use AirPlay, we lose the ability to AirPrint unless the WiFi is switched. Can see teachers moaning a lot about having to do this. I know I can disable wireless isolation for the curriculum network but would rather not obviously. Out of interest, who has disabled this in their place just to get AirPlay/Chromecast etc working? Has anyone got any other recommendations?
  8. There is an option on the controller that says "Allow traffic between wireless clients" which is set to No. You think this could be it? I'll give it a go on Monday.
  9. Hi, We have an issue affecting our ability to use Chromecast and AirPlay and it's starting to really annoy me! We use Clevertouch screens which come with a built-in AirPlay app and we've renamed each Clevertouch device to reflect the name of the room e.g. Art, Science, etc. The screens are on the guest wifi network and so are the iPads but when we try to stream the iPad using AirPlay to one of the screens we can't as it doesn't show up on iPad under the list of devices to connect to. Other Clevertouch screens, e.g. English, Maths etc appear on the list but not the one we need. Conversely, when I move away from the Clevertouch in Art and walk down the other end of the school, the Art room Clevertouch appears! This happens with the other screens too, if in English, iPad can't AirPlay to Clevertouch in English, likewise for Maths etc, etc. Same is happening for the Chromecast. I managed to initially get it set up (using guest WiFi) but when I came to casting something from Chrome (from laptop that was also connected to the guest network), or even trying to check the device settings using Google Home app, it wouldn't connect, saying "can't find any devices". When I moved away from the screen/Chromecast it magically found the device again. I thought at first it may be the strength of the WiFi signal but I'm getting full bars. We have 15 access points and WiFi speed around the school is generally excellent so not sure what's causing this. Could it be something on the WAP controller (HP MSM 720) I need to enable/disable? Any ideas?
  10. That would explain it then. Has anyone from SIMS mentioned a fix do you know?
  11. Thanks @Bubbles, I'm not able to view the thread so I've been on to SIMS this morning to ask them to check my permissions are right. Cheers.
  12. I spoke too soon, 4.7 is causing the agent to disappear from the notification area when it is hovered over. We don't have any SMART software installed. @Bubbles I can't see that post on My Account, I'd be very grateful if you could post a link to it.
  13. Love how they say 'should work', they should know for a fact if it works or not. It's called testing! Thanks for the update dcwhitworth. Are the C3350, C364e, 284e, and C258 on that list Konica sent you by any chance?
  14. Not sure how widespread this problem is but none of our computers with SIMS and the 4.7 .NET Framework on have shown this problem (up to now! )
  15. You know when something's bugging you then you have that lightbulb moment? Well figured it out last night whilst chopping onions...the CMD.exe on the black sheep machine is running 32bit Windows, the rest are 64bit. So that explains the file size difference. Doh!
  16. Hi, I've just ran a custom report using PDQ Deploy to look at cmd.exe file sizes to make sure nobody is exploiting the well-known 'Ease-of-Access/utilman.exe/cmd.exe' hack and noticed that one computer has a different file size than the others. All machines are running W7 Pro and are all fully updated so I can't get my head around why the cmd.exe on this one PC is a difference file size. It's even more strange as the 'File Created' field says it was created 1 day earlier than the files on all the other hundred-odd computers. Any ideas? (PDQ Deploy report screenshot below) Thanks
  17. It's should be embarrassing for these huge companies that they haven't sorted this already. What's the point of having SMB2/3 as an option to choose if it doesn't work when SMB1 is disabled.
  18. Have you tried changing the SMB value using the web interface of the MFD? See step 7 of this article... http://blog.korteksolutions.com/how-to-setup-smb-scanning-on-the-konica-minolta-bizhub-copier-to-scan-to-a-windows-share/ Our leasing company advised that if we disabled SMBv1 then to change the printer to use v2/v3 if we wanted scanning to work. Still not got round to trying it yet as used FTP instead as a workaround.
  19. I've had the same issue with my WSUS server and running the Server Cleanup Wizard has helped some computers to report their status. I can't say for sure if all of them have but definfinely some have. As @dapaulio mentioned though, best to decline the superseded updates first then run the wizard, I skipped this step but will be doing it at some point. The script posted by @spr looks quality, might be using that from now on!
  20. Yes it's a 2920 I'm after to go in as the final switch in a 4 switch stack. From what I've read on the documentation they don't stack with the 2930. Thanks for all the replies it's put my mind at rest when it comes to ordering from non-HP Authorised resellers.
  21. We were informed this may happen by our door access/CCTV installer when the system first went in. He advised to disable Windows Update. Not ideal but as the PC is only used as a CCTV monitoring station/door access card programming station, it never needs to get out to the internet anyway. Also on Win7.
  22. The previous incumbent of my role had the iPads set up on Apple Configurator but also had them enrolled with Meraki (as a backup, his handover notes mentioned) Oh how I loathe that Configurator an it's terrible error messages and just plain awfulness! Tried Configurator 2 which wasn't much better then as I got more familiar with managing Apple devices I realised the previous guy hadn't enrolled in DEP or VPP so I sorted those out, ditched Configurator, wiped the iPads, and went the Meraki Systems Manager route and haven't looked back since. It's fantastic for me as I haven't got to recall and wait for iPads to be returned to install an app, as a previous poster also mentioned. Not sure how new Meraki signups work but ours was in place, without being really used, for about 2 or 3 years and it allowed unlimited devices to be managed. As it was missing some features I really wanted I upgraded to a newer version of Systems Manager, the only caveat being a limit of managing 100 devices at a time for free. We fall way under that so it's ideal for us. Not used Profile Manager so can't comment and compare with that.
  23. Thanks @jmak. Found their warranty policy which states ... "5) For products purchased after December 1, 2014, the warranty extends only for as long as the original end user owns the product. Includes coverage of any built-in fans and power supplies for the entire warranty period. You may be required to provide proof of purchase or lease as a condition of receiving warranty service." Think the word "may" being the key here. I'm never that lucky!
  24. Hi all, About to purchase a new switch and a stacking cable from a HP gold standard partner and to go with it a 2-port stacking module from Amazon (dispatched and sold by them). As far as I can tell Amazon are not a HP silver/gold/platinum partner so does anyone know where we stand in terms of HP's 'lifetime warranty'? Thanks.
  25. That's what I thought too when I first found the the command line paramenters on a forum post on the Lenovo website. Unfortunately the /ALLON and /ALLOFF don't actually enable/disable Airplane Mode. When Airplane Mode is disabled, /ALLON and /ALLOFF can be used to enable/disable WiFI and Bluetooth radios but when Airplane Mode is enabled, /ALLON and /ALLOFF have no effect. As previously mentioned, it's like Airplane Mode is a 'master switch' and the command line parameters don't override it. The onyl way to disable Airplane Mode once enabled is to press Fn+F8 and click the Enable button on the OSD. Think of it like your consumer unit at home, it you switch off your electricity by your main circuit breaker, it doesn't matter if you flick up or flick down Not on these Lenovo's unfortunately, that would be too easy wouldn't it! UPDATE: Although I'm happy to have this working, I thought I'd test a little more and try to use Impero to block access to the file. Although the block works when the file is manually double-clicked on, it doesn't block when the keyboard shortcut is used to launch the file. Double-clicking the file isn't possible for the pupils anyway as they can't see the C:\ drive and have no access to run/command prompts.
