We have been using Google Workspace for many many years. All our files are in Google Drive, and we use most of their other main services. Currently the school office (5 users) and 10 teachers are still using Windows devices, they also have Office LTSC installed. The support staff and all the pupils are using Chromebooks. I was in a discussion with the head about going server-less, it turns out their main sticking point (apart from not wanting to learn something new), is they don't know of any other schools that have gone 100% Google and 100% Chromebook. All they know of is that they are OK for pupils to use. So, if you are a school that has managed to move your teachers and office staff over to Chromebooks, would you mind just popping a very short message below. Perhaps including the size of your school etc and if you have needed to keep one or two windows devices onsite. Thanks

When we try to print from our new Chrome Flex devices, we are getting 'SSL certificate is expired error'. Printing from other devices is fine. After searching, apparently we might need to update a certificate on the printer. When I log onto the printer web page, it does have a self cert creation page, but there are a lot of settings and I don't want to stop our Windows devices from being able to print. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue? Do I need to use the printer to create a new certificate? Any advice?

Just to update - I have demoted the new DC and will start over.

BTW both servers are using the newer DFS-R

Everything successful lists both the new and old DC 0 fails Completed with no errors

I thought server 2019 only supported DFS-R, so didn't check. Ill check that now. Just logging in now to test

Hi, This is something I only do every 4 or 5 years. Current DC = Server 2019 Just installed a new 2022 server. Installed updates joined it to domain installed Active Directory Domain Services role Promote the new server to a domain controller In my really old notes, my next step is to check C:\Windows\SYSVOL\Domain C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\Domain.lan All those folders are shown on my new 2022 DC, but both the Domain & Domain.lan folders are empty. Is this still the correct location to look for these folders / files? Should I wait a bit to see if the files appear inside these folder? BTW on the new 2022 DC server, if I open Group Policy Management, all the group policies are displayed. I suppose I can just demote the new DC and try again

A few months back we got another batch of Dells. A few years ago we got Lenovo education ones, but we managed to get 4 year warranty with the Dells and Dell support seems to have improved recently, whereas I have noticed the Lanovo support having gone down hill for us. I did notice the newer Dells have gone up in price, so next time I might look at something else. Build quality seems very good and the touch screen is much better than the lenovo. If you are buying Dell, go through the Dell regional manager directly, as they will give you the biggest discount over a third party Dell reseller.

One of my primary schools has Flex devices and managed to find (after a lot of hunting) every app they needed in web format. Obviously things like scratch are web based, but there is probably a web based version of most apps.

I was just looking in the Chrome OS settings pages and I can see there are probably changes from the last time I looked (its been a while) Things like an extra options in the 'Saving to Google Drive by default' section. Previously it had something like, save to drive enable / disable, now it seems to have more options. Also entire AI sections. I get loads of Workspace update emails, but nothing going over these type of page setting changes. Does anyone get any updates on these? If so, where do I sign up?

Just been going through the settings (fun Sunday) and just noticed that in a different section, Devices > Chrome Browser > settings, the print setting was disabled for pupils. The really odd thing is, now when I make a change in either, Devices > Chrome Browser > settings or, Devices > Chrome > settings, they both contain the same settings and point to the same page, where as before they had different settings. Must have been some kind of Glitch. Ill try to go over to the school tomorrow to do some onsite tests.

Thanks, Ill give that a go when I am next at the school. The printer is deployed to the pupils and is displayed in the settings > printer section when logged in as a pupil.

Just added the school printer to our Chromebooks using Google Workspace admin GUI. When I open Chrome browser as a pupil, the print button is greyed out. Also, in Gdocs clicking print does nothing. When I log in as a teacher, printing works. I have locked at the printing settings under Devices > Chrome > settings > users / but both the pupil and staff settings look the same. There must be somewhere I am missing a setting that has been applied to the pupils OU, but I cant find it and Google don't really make it very easy to workout. Any ideas?

No expert, but I thought once the cards or fobs were setup, they should still open the doors, even when the doors systems don't have LAN connection to the paxton server software. Ours doors kept working even when our network comms cabinet went off. Is it the same issue for all doors? Check the network settings in the Paxton control software, make sure they are not on DHCP and are set correctly. Perhaps give Paxton a call?

FYI - Battlefield have just released their own anti cheat system. Its just been added to Battlefield 1 and others will be added soon. EA has taken a significant step in the ongoing battle against cheating in online games by developing its own kernel-mode anti-cheat system. I don't think so, as I have now had another 3 teachers with the same issue. I'll take a look anyway, thanks. Edit, also they don't have any access to the Shared Drive system, Shared Drives is not even displayed under My Drive.

We are using groups to control Shared Drive access. Everyone is still listed in the group. Should I look somewhere else?

This morning I have had 2 users that can't access any Shared Drives using the online version of Google Drive. The shared drives section is simply not displayed. I logged into Google Drive desktop app and they are displayed there. I have reset the users Chrome settings, but when they log back in its the same issue. Any ideas?

I do this slightly differently Hold esc and the refresh button down, then also hold the power button down. When it turns on and displaying something (cant remember what it is), press the power button to turn it off. Pressing the power button once more will boot the device. I had to do this 3 times today, lol. Edit - If I didn't know about this, I would have probably thrown out a lot of devices thanking they were faulty :-)
