Think I had something similar last year. Rather than trying to find a fix, as I was really busy, I turned off the new DC for a few days, just to make sure everything was OK, then I demoted the new DC, removed it from the domain and wiped it. Then when I had more time I started over and it worked fine. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

Does the standard also include GCPW licenses? I have been reading through their license pages, but see it listed anywhere.

I remember reading on Reddit, the June server updates had a DHCP issue and lots of admins skipped the June update for this reason. I don't think t was fixed in July, but the August update fixed whatever the issue was. I installed all the updates and didnt have any issues.

Q3 - If the pupils are using Chromebooks or Flex devices, does it work OK splitting the licences, so the staff are on Plus and the pupils are on Education Fundamentals, or does that cause a headache / issues?

So, for my testing I purchased 15 Endpoint Education Upgrade licenses, which just cover a user logging into a GCPW laptop. I was just looking at the licensing pages and it looks like Google have changed all their licensing. For their main licenses they now only seem to have 'Education Plus:' £5 (ish) per user per year. looks like standard has been removed. Q1 - On the Education Plus page it doesn't seem to list supporting Windows endpoints, does the Plus license support GCPW endpoints? Q2 - On the Costings page it lists that Plus is £4.80 per person per year. Is that only staff, or do we need to also pay that for pupils? Thanks

This is what I have been testing for the past year. Seems to work really well and includes lots of policies for locking things down. If you go with just the GCPW licenses on there own, its something like £4 per account per year, or there about.

Whats a good way to force it to ask me for 2 step again?

Yubikey being unavailable with GCPW is a restriction of Windows. Google is working on it with Microsoft, I'm told. Worked for me last time I tested. I tested my Yubi key, txt pin and authenticor pin to log into Windows GCPW

I was thinking about getting a Synology NAS (plus version) to do our DHCP. If needed, they can also do DNS

Tested loads out a few years ago and found Action1 to work perfectly for my needs. It does slightly more than just patching / deploying / updating, but not too much.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but all our usb c Chromebooks have 2 charger ports, so when one dies, it can be charged from the other side, which is very handy.

If you are using something like group policy, you can choose to have the backup key request, or not. The default is to always ask the user to backup the key, even if a pin number is going to be set. My advice, have a play on a test system.

I have deployed bitlocker to all our staff devices via group policy and more recently from Google Workspace. in both instances, I enable pin number access, which asks the user for a pin number before the drive even boots. Both Windows server and also my deployment software (Action1) automatically keep a copy of the bitlocker recovery key, should a windows update or hardware mess things up a bit, I can always decrypt the drive.

And yet I can install Google Credential Provider onto a Windows devices and it will fully support all my users different 2 factor authentication methods, before letting them access Windows. Seems odd that MS cant support their own systems in the same way.

When setting up shared drives for multiple domains / tenants, we had to white list each of the domains in each of the tenants for it to work properly.

Thanks, Ill wipe a laptop, re install OS, then download the original Dell drivers. Ill then check the SSD. If it is the SSD, can I use non Dell branded drives? The Dell ones are twice the price.

Purchased a few Latitude 3420's about 3 years ago and they are running very slow. For example, clicking to open a PDF can take 20 seconds before it opens. On other systems its only a few seconds. I was told by the teacher that those laptop always have been slow, (I was never informed) I have updated the BIOS and all other Dell systems. I have tried re-installing Windows 11, but they still still run slow. The annoying thing is they have older cheaper systems with worse specs, that seem to be working much better. These are the specs. Does anything jump out as being an issue? Intel Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 AX201 2x2 802.11ax 160MHz + Bluetoot h 5.1 M.2 256GB PCIe NVMe Class 35 Solid State Drive 11th Generation Intel Core i5- 1135G7 (4 Core, 8M cache, base 2.4GHz, up to 4.2GHz A Intel i5-1135G7, Intel Iris Xe Graphics CY22 8 GB, 1 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MT/ s, single-channel, Non-ECC UPDATE - These are primary school staff devices, with MS Office, Smart Notebook and a few other basics.

I now of schools running really old network equipment, that would really benefit from this scheme. I do wonder how they are picking the schools.

One of the schools I work with were moved over to the paid version last week (again). Contacted them and got moved back to free version
