We ran P2V using Hyper-V for our Sims Server it ran very smoothly, only hickup we had was figuring out that we had to make the disks fixed disks and convert to dynamic afterwards for it to work. Overall it tookabout 3 hours from start to finish. D

Yeah I understand that, I think were giving advice for if you weren't planning on using these technologies and just had 1 Virtualization Server and the SAN.

I was advised by techies at Fujitsu that when running Hyper-V and Virtual Servers to have the Virtual OS disk on the physical servers local disk's and to have the data disk of the virual server on the SAN wether its iSCSI or Fibre attached. That was using DX80 or DX90 with fibre channel.

As I said earlier, if you want to use their home directories then just redirect the Home Folder of your default website to the root of all users home folders, this way you will be able to have http://Http://fileserver1/Username D

Yes there will be a difference, normaly you would run the OS Drive on the local storage of the server and then have the data drive of the server on the SAN.

Ahh I get you now! Just export a user list from AD and create all the folders using mkdir it shouldn't be too difficult to write a quick batch program to do that should it! 1. Export your usernames 2. Use Excel to put 1 and 1 together In column A MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\ In column B User1 In column C =Concatenate(A1,B1) Coulmn D you should get MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User1 Drag column D down and you should get: MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User1 MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User2 MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User3 MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User4 MKDIR D:\HTTP_ROOT\Users\User5 Easy!

What have you settled on then are you going with a server with integrated disk's or are you going for a server with fibre attached storage, or just the fibre attached storage and a current server upgrade? D

Why not just move the files using robocopy, this way you keep the ACL intact. Then in AD just upate your users on mass using environment variables? Would that not be quicker and easier? To re-share the folders just use rmtshare. D

Open up IIS and drill down to the "Default Website" folder. Right click and select properties http://www.petri.co.il/images/ssl.gif On the Home Directory tab enter the root location of the users home directories, for example d:\users\%USERNAME% http://www.bram.us/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/iis-home-directory.gif Then if you navigate to http://fileserver1/%USERNAME% you will be presented with a directory view of your home folder.
