  3. First - any Cat run for audio needs to be shielded, unless it's Dante which I would say is overkill if you're not exploiting the muticast abilities. Standard Cat%e will not always work, or be unreliable. Second - the SQ are good desks, but there are better for beginners to digital. We use the Soundcraft Impact / Expression range. Just as solid but easier to use IMO (things like having the EQ spread across multiple knobs rather than 1 set and having to select your EQ bands is a big help). Third, we know nothing about the OP's requirements for an audio system, other than they need one. Hence why I recommended a company that will ask the right questions before recommending products.
  4. Hi Richard, From the vagueness of your request I guess you'll need a bit of help with this. We use GVAV and have never had any issues with them, their head office is in Hounslow so quote close to you.
  5. I would go as far to say any HDMI run to a projector should not be done on standard copper. Amplified copper cables are ok (we use the Van Damme 10 and 15m versions with no issues) but anything over that should either be fibre or twisted pair. Also remember each break in the chain effectively adds a meter to your overall length. So you suggest the main cable may be 10m, with a wall socket to a 1m flylead. Most HDMI wallplates are actually very short F-F cables behind the plate, so add an extra 2m for the 2 connections, plus a bit extra for the cabling, and you're fast approaching 15m overall length on standard copper. Yes it's expensive going to HDMI. Consider alternatives though - would SDI work better for you, or twisted pair? (Some projectors can accept HDBaseT straight in, and I've found the Sy range of transmitters aren't that bad). Perhaps worth halting work until you've revisited the proposed solution!

  7. From what I can see SCM was just software that allowed you to download the recorded content? The encoder does all the work for the actual streaming. You can then watch via PC (VLC Player etc) or via a decoder box. The videos explain a lot as well.
  8. If you look at the "Diagram" tab it shows you a plethora of ways you can connect all your sources etc to it, including audio. And yes it can switch audio and video (and do PiP), but doesn't do the fancy fades and wipes etc of a video mixer. The "Description" tab gives a good run down of the features.
  9. Totally depends on what you're filling it with, and if you're using a UPS. Work out the power requirements in amps, then add in some headroom, then you can look at what distribution system would work best. But in that rack any 19" system will fit fine.
  10. First off, good advice about having both mics on the same bank as each other. Looking at the Sennheiser chart here I'd recommend using Bank 1 Channels 1 and 2 (page 17 for your equipment I'm guessing). Second, make sure pilot tones are turned on both on the transmitter and the receiver. Third - licenses do not guarantee no interference. We have site specific (co-ordinated) frequencies running across 3 channels on a frequency range not standard in the UK (Channels 28, 29 and 31) and still get interference from time to time. On Channel 70 you really take the chance I'm afraid. Fourth - if you want to go digital look at kit that's based in 1.9GHz band (DECT), not 2.4GHz. You do pay with a little latency increase, but if it's just spoken word or non-critical applications it can work really well.
  11. Morning. Just noticed the Surface requirement and re-read your original post. If it's a requirement to have the VC equipment connected to a Surface as well as a PC that's another whole bundle of hurt. My recommendation is to only connect the equipment to a PC else you're digging a huge support hole for yourself (unplugging of cables and leaving them unplugged is just one scenario that springs to mind). Our normal go to reasoning is we try to keep VC on wired connections for stability, so don't offer connection to the VC equipment for laptops etc as you don't need it. There are cool systems out there that do peripheral sharing, checkout Mersive Solstice for one way to do it. But again it's more expense, for something that probably won't get used all that much!
  12. First - great example of why not to buy from Currys. The Sony range of professional displays is only a little more than that, but comes with a 5 year warranty (not one) with advanced swap out, meaning you get a loan screen if you have to send yours away for repair. And your warranty won't be void as it would do with Currys as you're using the product in a commercial setting, not a domestic one. Second - for the price of all those individual components you can have a Logitech Meetup - https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/audio-video-conferencing/0007211962 - and get a better speaker with it. Wider field of view, easy to use remote control, 1 USB connection and much easier setup.
  13. If it's just for a meeting room, do you need an interactive screen? Sometimes it's good to go back and look at what is actually needed - was a IWB installed because previously because there was one spare, and no-one's ever picked a pen up since? But definitely a screen over a projector. Quieter (important when video conferencing) and brighter (again important!). Select your screen size based on the distance to the furthest viewer, not a random figure someone on here has told you. There are calculators online to help you with this. Microphones are generally pretty good these days. If you only want audio we've had very good results with the Beyerdynamic MPR210B, fed into a Behringer USB interface. It has a long, thin pickup pattern which is great for boardrooms if that's the orientation you're working with. Ceiling mount it so it's out of the way and a bit more discreet. If you need a camera as well I really recommend an all-in-one unit such as Logitech Meetup. The newer Rally Cam looks good too but much more expensive! The all-in-one bonus is you have everything in the one device - mic, speaker, camera. Which means one device available to the user, simple to use. And all the components work well together. Worth considering.

I'd always add if you're concerned about current draw look at the entire circuit, not just the outlet you're working with. 13a sockets are typically on a 32a ring main, trying drawing a full 13a on 3/4 sockets and you'll see what I mean. Perhaps more pertinent as 16a sockets don't have fuse protection, so check your breakers (it should really be fed direct from a circuit board via it's own breaker)

  16. Apologies I've only just revisited this. Any scope for over floor containment? I face similar issues to this all the time and have yet to resort to a wireless connection. This is the stuff we use - a little pricey but we like it as it's low profile and hasn't broken on us yet, unlike the cheap rubber strip that always flips over, rubs through and needs taping to the floor after 2 months of use.
  17. Might have something to do with the USB power settings in Windows. I've had lighting desks suffer similar connection dropouts, but if you disable the power saving on Windows it fixed the issue. Article here

  19. Just seen this is probably a one off room rather than a site-wide type thing - if you want an easy, all in one box I'd have a look at the Extron SMP352 - Records and streams 2 sources easily with easy to configure PiP options. Worth a bit of time investigating!
  20. Hi James, Consideration needs to be given to the type of devices that will be casting to the screens. Wireless Display Adapters work great for Windows devices as they use WiFi direct type technology so no issues with VLANs etc. Lecturer just presses Win+K on their laptop, finds the adapter, enters a PIN code, off you go. However they are not networkable, so you have no oversight and firmware deployment is manual (ok for small campuses but not really feasible at scale). But if you need Mac, or Chromebook things get more complicated. There are many different offerings from Barco, Extron, AirServer, Kramer, Mersive, WePresent, WolfVision... loads of choice. But configuring them onto the network can be problematic! Perhaps some idea of the devices likely to be used and scale you're looking at would help?
  21. We use Sonic Foundry's Mediasite. It's hardware based rather than placing extra demands on the teaching PC. Lots of functionality that you may or may not want to use. If you want to know more feel free to PM.
  22. An idea of your budget here would be really helpful, and the room size. The best solution I've installed is using the Sennheiser Team Connect Ceiling 2 mic (TCC2). We've then fed this into an Extron DMP128 Plus C audio matrix, which provides active echo cancelling and noise reduction (much more effective than relying on the audio codec of whatever VC solution you're using). The audio matrix then connects the PC via USB as a generic soundcard. Using the matrix means we can use multiple mics (we actually use 2 TCC's in the room) and include radio mics etc if we need to, as well as giving an in room mix. The echo cancellation is so effective you can play a song at full volume in the room and it's not transmitted over the call. There are other solutions that I've not tested - the Nuvera solution looks interesting. The biggest headache you will have is if everyone is joining the call on their personal laptops, but want to use the in-room audio. This simply will not work as it requires everyone to mute the system and microphone else you'll generate feedback. (Guarantee someone will umute themselves to speak at some point!) A full VC solution is going to be preferable from a support and experience perspective, I can see this approach taking a lot of your time.

  24. It's a lot but the Logitech Meetup is a great product and for a Heads office. Optical zoom and actual movement of the lens (rather than cropping down on an wide image) with simple presets (desk and meeting table) and a good mic and decent soundbar. Dead easy to install too. We use them all over the place and they just work.
  25. We use Iiyama - they're latest version of the touchscreens have a nice USB hub on them as well, so you can add a camera and USB mic to your touch USB cable and get all 3 on the 1 connector. Also - has a USB switch in the screen, so you can have a main PC attached to input 1 and laptop to input 2, when the screen displays input 2 the USB switches over as well, similar to a KVM. So the in room camera, touchscreen etc can be used with a laptop without having to unplug the main PC cables.
