  1. One thing with PTZ cameras, check they can point directly down (when ceiling mounted!). Just installed a Logitech Rally cam to do a dual role function (ceiling visualiser and normal PTZ work) and we've had to mount the camera at an angle so we can get a straight down shot. Makes the install look a bit messy but it works. If you want pictures of the Eye-14 in-situ I can post some tomorrow.
  2. We use Wolfvision Eye-14's. Come with a ceiling tile adapter so it can be flush mounted in the ceiling. One big advantage these have is a laser dot which shows the center of the image. It's pulsed at a rate that's out of sync with the cameras frame rate so it doesn't show on the image. Yes they're expensive, but I've never had to replace one yet and have never had any complaints from the users (mostly medical professionals in dissection settings).
  3. I did ITIL training last year during lockdown. Exam requirements were camera on and remote desktop viewing software installed. Start of the exam the laptop had to be lifted up to show the desk was clear (not even a glass of water) and the room was empty (fully rotated around the room). Camera stayed on throughout. When I found this was the way the exam was to be taken I asked to do it in person at a later date.
  4. A wheeled display could be the better option, but thought would need to be given to cable management and display size ratios. Also (as usual) please look at the commercial display screens rather than consumer products. Although you can buy a consumer grade 75" screen for around £800 it won't be covered by any warranty when the manufacturers discover it was installed in a school. Commercial equipment is designed to show static content (Powerpoints rather than television) and will be covered by any warranty claims. A quick search shows 75" commercial screens start around £1500 ex VAT, and dhicks is right about the motorised trolley around £800 ex VAT.

Now discontinued, doesn't take a genius to work out why. 2 projectors will give the best solution, and probably be cheapest. Maybe 2 different brands so the 1 remote doesn't switch the wrong projector on? Or some manufacturers allow you "key" the projectors so 1 remote can do both, but you have to select which channel you want to use.
  6. I bought a pair of these Sony's a while back, pretty good and in your budget. However for home use I'm a Sennheiser HD25 man, if they were good enough for Concorde they're good enough for me!

No surprises your supplier has an account with Highlite - they're the company that manufactures Showtec, DAP Audio etc. I'd be looking at other lines, Chauvet, ADJ and eLumen8 are all worth looking at. Also are these prices ex VAT? Without knowing much about your needs or the size of the space, I've got the following observations.... 1. Your prices seem to be inflated. Yes installation labour and cabling etc needs to be factored in, but ask for it to be broken down into sections so you can see the true cost per item (Bax Music sell the Showtec Powerspot 9 Q6 for £201, x 16 = £3,216. They'd probably do some discount for a bulk purchase too) 2. No generic lighting. Again without knowing your stage size you're putting all your eggs in the basket of movers. 16 LED's with 8 wash movers? 24 wash fixtures? 8 spots I get, but having no fresnels or profiles seems a little short sighted. 3. Do you need IWB's? If it's just DMX and hard power, and you're constantly re-arranging your rig then you'll find the outputs will probably be in the wrong place, or worst still the outputs are exactly where you want to hang your fixture. Clean bars are much more flexible, and don't require electrical testing every year. 4. The sound system seems very underpowered, and old. The Expression 1 is an ok desk, but has been around for a long time now, the SI Impact is, IMO, a much better desk (it actually has 24 faders, not 22!) and is upgradable to 64 mono inputs as well as 16 stereo, massive upgradability, or the Allen & Heath SQ series are a good alternative with flexible options on stageboxes. For £14k I'd be expecting Martin Audio level of equipment, or at a push if you're not fussy about good quality secondhand a Q7/QSub d&b rig (if you're thinking about hiring the equipment out, d&b will always make you money). 5. Yo have no stage monitoring factored in, even for drama I'd be expecting 2 pairs of monitors, maybe flown over the stage. 6. Lighting control - have you considered PC systems? A Chamsys PC Wing is half that price and gives you up to 64 Universes if you combine it with an Artnet node. Much more power and flexibility, and redundancy. (If your desk crashes halfway through a run, what do you do? Chamsys shows you can run without a Wing just on a PC via Artnet, you don't need the hardware, just another PC/laptop!) 7. The projector again seems expensive. I'd be looking at £10k max. Again it might be that they've factored in their labour and cabling etc, ask for it to be broken down. For convenience I'd be looking at including a switcher/scaler and RS232 control panel, maybe linked to an audio matrix processor as well to control the volume for your microphones to the end user. 8. Edit to add - if you're thinking about leaving things powered up for casual use (microphones for example) buy kit that is rated for 24/7 use, or expected seriously shortened lifespans on the kit. Most digital mixers would only be on for 12 /15 hours max per day, if you're thinking about leaving it live all the time ensure ventilation is going to be a priority and maintenance factored in for cleaning of fans etc. Definitely get some other quotes, maybe split the project up to gain experience in the relevant fields. A good audio installer might not be so good at projection?
  8. Factually speaking, Art probably have less of a need for a large image than Maths. By the time you start to think about the content and visual acuity, eye strain etc then I'd rather have more space for equations to be made larger than a jpg that will probably just look pixelated at larger sizes? Future of projectors in teaching rooms? Still needed. Once you get above a requirement for 86" / 90" screens then it makes more sense. You can mount them higher on the wall, improving sight lines (how many of your touchscreens can all your staff reach fully, all the way to the top, and still have a good sightline?). You don't lose wall space with a roll away or motorised screen, handy for maybe a Drama department who need a more flexible space or Maths where a large penboard wall is needed (or chalkboard if your Maths department still insist on using them, like mine!) That said, touchscreens are our default option in teaching rooms. 86" for a 30 capacity classroom, going down to 75" for 25+ and 65" for smaller, depending on the room layout. I'd recommend that even if touch isn't needed get a touch monitor anyway. The cost difference is negligible, you're standardising across the estate (who's to say a different teacher won't move into a non-touch room one day and expect a touch system available?) and touch displays have toughened glass as standard, not a bad thing. And edit to answer original question - yes, we're Iiyama.
  9. I just watched the first few minutes of that and have to argue against it. Those first few minutes (especially where he's chopping the veg) is a perfect example of seasickness inducing video.
  10. Strongly recommend NOT doing this - unless they want the students to suffer from sea sickness watching an unstable image. Get it on a stand / tripod!
  11. This guy really goes into detail about the propulsion systems used. And scarily actually describes the issue encountered. As an ex-propulsion tech in the RAF I think this is awesome!

  13. So I've updated my WDA to latest firmware. Like the custom backgrounds on the splash screen, and the clear instructions. Hate the latency on it. If you're Powerpointing and taking your time it might not be an issue, but if you're doing something in fine detail or flitting between 2 areas of the screen as you commentate the latency would be a big issue for me. Hasn't crashed on me yet, but I'm on my home network with a small handful of devices and no interference on my WiFi channel.

  15. ^ This. Also consider are the radios used on playing fields, away from WiFi coverage? Stick with the 2 way technology if I were you.

  17. Makes sense. If you get really stuck you could get an HDMI audio de-embedder before it goes into the projector.
  18. Audio doesn't have to follow video - in Win10 if you click the speaker in the taskbar, above the volume slider is the current playback device. You should be able to click this and then select the audio output you want to use. If you want to force it you can go into Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices, then disable all but the device you want the sound to come out of so users don't accidentally change the routing.

  20. I think there's some off the shelf products in the entertainment world - my head went to lighting desk flight cases such as this one, but quite pricey!
  21. Bit late to the party, but we standardise on Iiyama touchscreens for 65, 75 and 86" models. No use of any onboard software, just Microsoft Whiteboard if needed or marking up of documents / browsers etc via Win10.
  22. Echo cancelling is more for video conferencing, it uses the incoming audio as a reference to remove from the audio going back. Not going to work for removing echo from a room I'm afraid.
  23. I believe it was something to do with taxation of different classification of camera - they put the 30 min limit on DSLR's so they weren't classified as an actual video camera, more a stills camera with video functionality.
  24. Yes there's time limits - file sizes and SD cards become your limiting factor. Also you then need to go through the video and cut into individual performances, and what happens if that card gets corrupted? At least doing individual recordings you could swap out SD cards between recordings to prevent 1 card being corrupted wrecking a whole groups recordings. Also 1 huge video file will take a lot longer to process than several smaller ones, and you can delete bad takes etc (on a large recording you'd have to watch all of it to find the good one - what happens if you submit the wrong recording?) I think your all in one solution is a different requirement to this - live streaming an assembly and providing a good quality recording (possibly for exam submission I'm guessing?) are 2 completely different things.
  25. I would definitely be looking to prioritise audio over video on this. There may be a performance element that needs to be captured on film, or technique, but surely capturing clean audio should be the key? If performances are always going to be less than 30 minutes most entry level DSLR cameras are likely to be fine. Most have an audio input that you could put an external audio source into, a good condenser mic with a small mixer etc would work well for individual performances, or you can increase the channel count easily and still use the same camera. Definitely put the audio into the camera rather than recording both separately then combining in post as it's going to be a lot easier (no need to sync up anything), and means you have an unedited complete file that you can send to examination boards. Whatever make sure it's easy to use unless you want to be supporting it every ten minutes!
