Perhaps it’s something to do with the bit in the middle of England. As I come from there and don’t get it either.

EMBC told me "you need to add https://logmein.com and https://secure.logmein.com" in reference to the Netsweeper allow list.

When did you change that…. Or That wasn’t there before. Happens far to often. Like this morning when someone came to pick up their laptop that had been left lying around saying said that’s not mine, I don’t recognise xx and yy. It was there laptop and the stuff they didnt recognise had been on the case for over a yaer. Hey what’s that new box on the wall? You mean the 3 year old amp with volume button for your interactive whiteboard and speakers?

SFC doesn’t run in safe mode. System Restore won’t load, cannot even view event viewer or device manager either in safe mode or in normal boot. Pretty much only leaves me with boot from XP CD, repair install but that will have to wait till next year. Have a good holiday all.

This is bugging me now. 4 more workstations are doing the same thing, they all have the same symptoms and act like they have the blaster virus. Only there is no virus as they are all updated. It appears one of the windows updates has causeed the problem. shutdown –a works but you have to type it every 2 mins. SFC /SCANNOW starts but never seems to do anything. The bar doesn’t move.

No staff are in today so I took the opportunity to make sure all the computers are up-to-date. Upon reboot after afew updates 1 computer did a scandisk fond some errors now it refuse’s to work. Shortly after login in I get Remote Procedure Call RPC Service Termination unexpectedly, then a timer before a shutdown. Everywhere I look says it’s the blater Viryus. I don’t see how that’s possbile, its got SP2, an up-to-date Virus checker and at most the security updates where a month old if that. Any ideas on what else could cause the problem?

“and IT jobs across the U.K. had already been evaluated.†Around Nottingham they are making it clear no support jobs in schools have been evaluated yet and its takeing place in the next 12 to 18months. Perhaps it's Nottinghamshire only but I do know we haven’t been evaluated

I love Vista once I learnt how to tweak it. Don’t forget to turn on enhanced hard disk performance as its off by default, in device manager. Turn power save mode from balanced to high performance. Why things are not on high performance by default I don’t know. Give vista a few days and it should speed up massively as it takes a while for superfetch and indexing to set them self’s up. The hot fix's t speed up Vista hard disk acess is a must.

I use VM and get an odd service. Downloading programs is fine pretty close to 20meg. But webpage viewing often drops down to sub 28k modem speeds. It’s been down more then normal as well this month must be on the 6 or 7th downtime this month.

There seem to be a lot of females about in recent years and it got me thinking when did the job of IT tech stop being male dominated and what changed to get females interested? Now I have nothing against female IT techs as the ones I have met are just as good as the males and know their stuff. Just curious as why in the past few years the balance between male and female is so much better. What’s changed? What got me thinking was the last job I left a lady took over form me, the school I am at now had a lady before me and the last training course I went to had me as the only male there. Now that was a shocker. That and I bumped into some female IT techs while horse riding. Gone are the days of computers being male only toys.

“Why are you guys under desks so much??†In my case it’s due to roamers, robots and other moving stuff that tends to find its way under desks. Friday I am in all the control lessons. Hiding under desks is a good way to avoid work. No one finds you and if they do just hold a cable and look busy.

“Fingers crossed you will go up - it will be back dated to April 2005 if you do, which will give you a nice few quid to spend.†We where told backdated to 2002 and that it would take 12 to 14 months for the change's to take place.

Shirt and trousers without a tie unless it’s a day when I spend a lot of time on the floor then jeans and whatever is practical.

In Nottingham we have lower and higher grade techs do you not have high grade? Our high grade is at least 16k. Can you not show them this and try to argue they are underpaying compareing to the same job in other schools? http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/njebookletrevision1.pdf http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/ittechniciansecsc6.doc http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/ittechniciansecsc4.doc

Take up a sport like horse riding. As a bonus you get to meet lots of ladies. I find there tends to be a high ratio of horse riders in schools. So you can arrange pub rides in the summer.

Certain documents always show 1 page no matter how far you zoom out. Others show as many pages as it can fit on the screen. For example 75% on one document will be show as 1 page, on the next document it will show 2 pages at 75%. I know it’s a simple setting but its been bugging me for hours as I cannot find it. EDIT: Half fixed, pressing task plane sorts it. A few of the computers don’t have a task plane option under the view menu.

Needs a few more patch’s before it’s worth playing. Its got the basis of a good game but something’s missing.

“Christmas is what it is, mostly referencing the Christian story.†It not though really, nearly every part has nothing or little to do with the Christian story.
-
“Well when children ask me about Xmas, and as I went to a church of england school and also as a Christian [ but a bad one ] I tell them the story from the bible.†I can understand that being in a church school. My problem is with the Christians who think Christmas is all about them and just them and try and force that onto everyone. I get letters though my door from Christians reminding me how it’s all about them and only them and don’t forget it. It’s iterating. Most of Christians don’t seem to realise most of Christmas is not a Christian only thing. Its like when you say true meaning you sound like its all about you and the rest of us are wrong.
-
“answer them with details about the true Christmas story from the bible.†For a lot of people that’s not the true meaning/story of Christmas that something the Christians tagged onto Christmas at a later date. That’s why you have to be careful. Its not fair to force people down the Christian root. For some the 3 wise men are not part of the Christian version but date back much longer.
-
You have to be careful these days. I was going put up a Christmas tree or mistletoe toe saying happy winter solstice. But I figure some someone would get upset not knowing they are parts of Christmas are pagan. Might do something more subtle like a mushroom in a forest covered in snow. Hopefully that will not upset anyone. Using a HTML page as a desktop with falling know and other animations works well.

I heard a new class of PC is coming out. Called Ultra mobile PC’s.
-
One thing I always wondered about what happens if someone had a dual or triple job. Say they are the IT coordinator and IT tech. Or perhaps in charge of photography as well. What if they are a teacher 3days a week and IT tech the rest.
-
When they say no IT suites. Do they just mean it’s an IT suit and a normal classroom as the same time? So sometimes no computers are used. If that’s the case it might not be to bad its what we do here and it works. Depends on the size of you school I guess. “All PC's in the suite should have video conference facilities from a fixed camera and microphone with the option of a mobile camera†What’s the point behind that? Sounds like a waste of money.
