Some of the new devices come with an extra low powered core. The idea being to use the low powered core most of the time and only switch to dual/quad when needed. No idea if it works in practise.

I believe the only requirements passwords should have is password length. Springing two or more words together is better than forcing upper case, numbers or symbols with passwords a person cannot remember. Something like Elephanthorsecat is more secure and easier to remember then shorter passwords with numbers and uppercase. Why do we force users into obscure hard to remember passwords? Instead teach them to string together words.

That doesn’t seem correct. Tegra 3 isn’t x5 faster graphically then S2 is it? Surly it would have to be something like an PowerVR MP SGX chip of some sorts to hit those speeds.

This really is just guess work by me but surly people who provide the food have to work for weeks if not months before hand. Surly most of the staff will not be just for the opening ceremony. Lighting, rigging, computer networking on that scale would takes months to setup wouldnt it? then practice then the opening. It’s not just half an hour opening many will be used throughout the whole Olympics I would have thought. There must be a better breakdown somewhere around the web.

Staff wages perhaps? 1000’s of people on 15k or 20k or whatever it is soon adds up.

How much money do they expact the olympics to bring in? I assume local business will be packed and selling a lot which should I guess bring in a lot of extra tax. But is it enough?

I don’t watch BBC so I don’t know how bad it is, but could it just be BBC are trying to make the scenes represent real life? Every day most places have Apple products all over and around here even the technophobes have them. Many of whom a few years ago I would never have expected to have computers yet now are walking around with Iphones and I pads. If a show is based on an area that does have idevices all over would it be product placement to make the show realistic? Should the BBC be forced to buy lots of different devices they would not normally use and start using them? Should the presenters really be forced into learning different operating systems and devices and have to keep swapping?

I once encrypted one of the storage drives with photos on but never a whole server. One good reason to not use encryption is anything that cause’s a reboot or power loss will stop the server from powering backup till the encryption password is typed in. This also stops you doing updates via remote access that require reboots.

How is changing the OS to a different version not modifying the OS? I edited my post as you replied. Android does not always let you use install non signed code from somewhere else. Take the Amazon tablet it has no access to the main android market. You jailbreak it to access the non-official apps. The Toys R Us tablet is the same its all locked down. Android devices are not always open. Often they can be locked down to that developers own market apps only.

I don’t see how those are iOS term. One example is recently I had a tablet with android 3.0 on it and to get the fix to get proxy’s working was to jailbreak it to Android 3.1. officially the device only supported up to 3.0 and at the time if you pressed update it would not update past 3.0. Now it supports 3.2. jailbreaking to me means to modify the operating system beyond what the device developer intended or officially supports. People often jailbreak Android devices to new android versions as the device developer can often be 6 months or more behind the newest version of android. I have even heard teacher’s talk about jailbreaking Android phones to get extra features. EDIT: A better example the new Amazon tablet is locked down so you cannot access the main Android market. In theory you could jailbreak the tablet to access the non-official apps and use a none official version of Android.

Another +1 for AB. The only bit I don’t like is I have to run a 2nd PC with a 2nd AB to use a ban list. Otherwise the 1st PC cannot view all users and cycle though the screens.

AnandTech - Dual Core Snapdragon GPU Performance Explored - 1.5 GHz MSM8660 and Adreno 220 Benchmarks Above and the next page on that link show the SGX540 and the Adreno 220 with Vsync on as around the same speed with the Adreno being a little faster. (You cannot turn Vsync off with the SGX). Going by the SGX543 in other products and its specs we should see in games and graphic based apps the new Iphone being around double the speed over the Sensation and other phones based on a single SGX540 or Adreno 220 core. If you have time look up Infinitely Blade II on youtube. I have not seen anything like that on other phones or tablets. Nephilim is right in that the x7 numbers are wrong. I got confused and thought a Sensation had a SGX535 core which is wrong. I do need to revise my numbers down from x7 to x2 or x3 in graphics.

I really don’t agree with this. Year in year out they have been ahead in technology. It’s like the Ipad2 lots of people went on about how it’s just a minor refresh with outdated tech when reality still the fastest most advance tech we have. This new Iphone has tablet level chips in it. What other phone has the same or more power than tablets? How is that old tech? I fully expect to see the new Iphone beat many tablets in benchmarks going by the raw specs.

According to the benchmarks I have seen the Andreno 220 in the Sensation (not the 535 I said earlier on) is about the same speed as one SGX540. As the Iphone has two SGX543 it should be at a minimum x2 if not x3 or more faster.

The HTC Sensation is about x5 to x7 slower graphically. It looks like the HTC has one 535 core. I believe people are really underestimating the hardware difference with the new Iphone. We should see some amazing apps.

Out-dated technologies? A single SGX543 core is double the speed of the 535 core at the same mhz rating and the new phone has two 543 cores so thats x4 raw speeds without factoring in a mhz increase. I have not seen another phone with one 543core let alone two. Dont most other phones use older cores? How can you say the tech is behind other brands? It looks to be way ahead for now.

It’s a little more than that. It’s the fastest phone on the market by a long shot with up to x7 more graphical power putting it miles ahead of all other phones out now. It really is a large speed increase. From a gaming prospective it’s an Xbox360 in your pocket. No need for a PSP or DS.

I don’t understand why so many people are excited about it with the very poor performance. By the time it’s out it will be almost a year behind everyone else in speed. It’s pretty much realising a chip in 2012 with early 2011 speeds. With it being so outdated why are so many people going on about it?

That gives a very poor impression. Although I do acknowledge the home connections are not 100% suitable for schools. I just don’t understand why schools cannot have as good or better download connections as what people can get at home. In fact right now I would settle for better connections the you can get on a mobile phone To me 10mb is just not good enough in todays world. 10mb is way behind the times. Or another way to look at it. When you have 100mb now at home and have had 50mb for years at home. Upgrading your school connection to 1c1n 10mb hardly feels like an upgrade. It feels very outdated. EDIT: Mavhc we have the same here. Our 1c1n emails are still not fixed and the call has been open for months.

It both created a market in the 10’s of millions of units now apprrocheing 100million and from a technology point of view it’s amazingly powerful for such a small device. No other notebook or tablet has come close to the raw power found in an Ipad 2. Technology wise it has groundbreaking chips with the GPU power of an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 in a tablet. What’s even more impressive if the next generation of chips. The Ipad 2 was just a refresh; the Ipad3 is using a true new generation and will be massively more powerful.

Unlimited upload and download, no bandwidth caps or limited speeds. Automatic backup storage with unlimited space that exceeds what we have in school. x10 faster download speeds again exceeds what we have in school. Granted limited amount of email users, no internet filtering but better uptime and faster response for problems all for £420 a year. Ok I know I am oversimplifying and you cannot use a home system in schools but you can see why some small schools start wondering if they are really getting value for money. If we are paying so much often in the £1000’s why can our school systems not match or exceed what we can get at home for a fraction of the price?

Our school isn’t too impressed. Slow speeds at 10meg is extremely poor in this day and age when you can get 50mb or even 100mb at home. We are now at the stage where staff and children can have mobile phones or those slow USB dongles that are faster than the school internet connection . I can now get faster uploads and faster downloads at home! That’s not even shared between a batch of PC’s either. Very high downtimein the past few months all the downtime adds up to over a weeks for us if not weeks. Far to strict mail filtering were reports between staff get blocked. Although no complaints about the helpdesk very friendly and they keep mailing us updates on calls. They are struggling to sort out our mail problem but I can see they are trying out different solutions so that keep us happy ish. Still wasn’t impressed when I think it was last month there was 3 to 4 day downtime for all schools in the area with zero messages untill day 3.5. Even the websites said everything was ok.

Make sure they have the newest bios. The older bios does not like sudden power drops and I even had one die due to that reason. The newer bios has better power management and less problems with power drops. Performance wise I would never go back to a none SSD drive.

Well I understand and agree with your post localzuk although it’s not just cyclists that get that problem. Being a horse rider I have had car drivers (motorbikes) stop and use the road tax excuse as a reason that they “own” the road and saying I shouldn’t be on it
