  1. Are you installing full-fat Server 2016 and then adding Hyper V? (it sounds like it from that sentence). You'd be better installing Server Core with Hyper V, or Hyper V Server (less overhead as there's no GUi, etc): https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/hyper-v-server-docs/hyper-v-server-2016
  2. Have you checked if Intel Virtualisation is turned on in BIOS?
  3. I've seen a poster up in a school (a "professional" poster, designed and printed by an education body) that had a big arrow pointing at a tower, labelled "Hard Drive".
  4. Airserver. £8 for an education license: AirServer - The Most Advanced AirPlay, Miracast and Google Cast receiver for Mac, PC and Xbox One
  5. Have you tried switching it off and on again?
  6. I might know a school who'd be very interested in this. Do you still have it?
  7. Thanks again Rob. I've forwarded the details to YHGFL support.
  8. Thanks Pete, you're a star.
  9. A member of staff was trying to locate a manual for a Bellringer 8601. There are a lot of links for them on the web, but all seem dodgy (exe's from dodgy download sites). Anyone here happen to have a PDF version of the manual? (or would be kind enough to scan in a couple of pages, specifically on how to set additional alarms). Thanks in advance.
  10. We've had an issue in a primary with a number of Clevertouch TVs. To get even basic functionality from them (i.e. the app store, or updates) we have to put them on the unrestricted port. Not great for Primary classroom TVs! @Clevertouch_Rob are you able to help on this? Can we get a list of urls/IPs that YHGFL need to unblock so we can turn filtering back on (or can you provide them directly if you're not happy to give them in public)?
  11. I still don't buy it. Like I said, you'll probably find most things are priced pretty close to a USD = GBP basis anyway. Also, the above happens mass market (i.e. Xbox One games). See here for an example: Xbox One - Buying from Other Regions *WITHOUT* A VPN (Virtual Private Network) - HotUKDeals
  12. That might make sense, if not for the fact that Microsoft have always tended to price things on a pound per dollar basis (so if something cost $79.99, it would appear here for £79.99, or thereabouts). It's always been a complete rip-off. To now use "harmonisation adjustments" as an excuse for a 22% rise is a joke. I can pretty much guarantee you that if the value of the GBP rises again they won't lower prices back down (a big "if" I know).
  13. Use restricted groups. See here: Using Restricted Groups (as an aside, I'd imagine you already have some restricted groups somewhere, and that it is this that is removing your manually added local admin accounts as it effectively overwrites the local admin group. I'd maybe have a look around your computer OUs for any computer config GPOs and look for existing Restricted Groups to make sure you're not introducing competing policies).
  14. I'm curious; does this still happen with nested virtualisation?
  15. Not what you asked I know, but I'd be tempted to do a physical to virtual conversion and slowly migrate services over.
  16. I've set up SIMS to fire off alerts directly to our service desk. One school has been firing off daily alerts, seemingly without reason: "Status for Distributed Deployment Plan 'Workstation deployment' has changed from..." (that's the only information I have, the message is truncated at that point). I know it generates that alert when you deploy SIMS, but on the vast majority of occasions, SIMS has not been deployed at all during that day! Happens roughly the same time everyday without fail, but only on weekdays. Any thoughts?
  17. Incidentally, I'm fairly sure this got unticked after a Windows Update a few months ago (weird as it sounds). When this first happened it happened simultaneously across 3 schools, all with different setups, at the same time, and I talked about it to a techie at another school, and he'd just seen the exact same thing happen for the first time. We just assumed Microsoft pushed something out that did something it wasn't meant to do.
  18. We had this. You can force it on with group policy. Windows Components/I.E./Internet Control Panel/Advanced Page/Play Sounds in Webpages
  19. I remade an image for a school recently and went with Enterprise. TBH, I suspect the biggest benefit of doing so in a school in this day and age (of cryptoware) is AppLocker.
  20. The SIMS client is just a database front-end. There's no technical reason why something written in PHP/ASP/whatever can't access/manipulate the DB directly (don't see Capita providing such a client any time soon mind).
  21. An update borked WSUS on Server 2012. See the second post on this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2012/173833-wsus-help.html
  22. No need. The closed app store kind of makes it a moot point.
  23. There's an option to sync winhttp with IE, so I guess so: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc731131(v=ws.10).aspx Can't hurt.
  24. Have you tried these steps? (reset winhttp proxy and adding the URLs to your webfilter)? https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2745026
