Teamviewer meeting does exactly this.

You could do it with the Office Customisation Tool. Remove previous version of Office and just have OneDrive selected (with no other install changes) and then deploy it. I'd test it first though.

Didn't know that. Very interesting!

Advice: Whiteboard glare from projector
Cazale replied to mcrompton01's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I'd imagine you can probably pick up boards dirt cheap, maybe even free these days. A lot of schools are ripping them out and putting TVs in. Where are you located? -
Why would they?

there's a "Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage" policy: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn921901.aspx

[for sale] 2 42U Server Cabinets - Free to collector (Runcorn)

PM'd you. -
Have a look in c:\windows\installer. It grows each time you install anything and in my experience, can grow to be massive. Microsoft advise you don't delete anything in the Windows folder (as you might imagine). In a pinch I deleted it (well, rather moved it over to a share on the server) from one machine over summer and had a string of headaches with it afterwards (i.e. to give one example, icons not appearing, and then the icon cache refusing to rebuild). So if the folder is massive, you may be best just building a fresh image.

Sounds like somethings timing out (at a guess something permission based). What does it say in Event Viewer?

When you first plug a drive in it asks you what you want to do with it and remember your choice, and I think your seeing varying behaviour based on what was chosen as the default behaviour on each PC. There are autoplay GPOs (Computer Config/Windows Components/Autoplay?), try changing Remember Choice to disabled and Set Default Behaviour to Autoplay perhaps?

Good point. I didn't notice which forum it was in! (I saw the thread on the front page).

Does it work if you plug headphones in? As strange as it sounds, there's an issue with the generic "HD Audio" Microsoft Windows 7 driver where it causes this. If so, installing the proper driver fixes it.

Any reason you can't just do "net use //server/share$/%username% ?

You don't need to purchase anything. There's a free education upgrade you can apply which gives staff access to the "5 downloads" version of Office 365 (I can't think what tier it is from the top of my head). There's a big thread about it on here somewhere, you just need to ask your Volume License supplier to add it.

Dropbox was hacked (back in 2012, but the accounts only leaked a week or so ago, and it was 68 million accounts!), so they did an enforced password change on all old accounts. Maybe yours was one? TBH, there's an easier way to get photos off iPads (via @sted), install this app, open it on the ipad, go to the URL displayed on the app (and add it to the staff member's bookmarks), and you can simply drag and drop photos off the device straight onto any computer. Edit: the link would help! here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/wifi-photo-transfer/id380326191?mt=8

Anyone have any spare Hitachi ED-A111 (the flip down projectors) lamps they're wanting rid of (free or cheap, we'll cover P&P!). We've been doing a phased replacement, last one left in the entire school and it just went pop. It's probably going to be replaced in a few months so I'm trying to avoid asking them to pay a small fortune for another duff lamp.

I just create a generic user account for all teachers (called "laptop"!), and enter that user in credential manager on every staff member's laptop, give the "laptop" user limited access to a few folders teachers might need (including all teacher accounts, which are separate from office/headteacher/etc accounts, so little in the way of permission issues), then just stick a shortcut to their specific user folder on their desktop. Works a treat, and no need for constant logins, and no issues when the enforced password change hits accounts. That's in small primaries, I appreciate you might not want to do that with 100+ staff members (depends how much you trust them I guess). You could control access on a per computer basis if needed, I tend not to bother.

Thanks for that. Looked on the Microsoft pages for an hour and tried 20 different things, none of them any use. First post I look at on here (yours) and I find the right answer

I think it depends on the model, but it may be as easy as a firmware upgrade. At one primary with a couple of Konica's they were running an old firmware, I rang Konica to try and get the new Firmware and they sent someone out the same day to upgrade both printers and turn on Airprint (unfortunately we also had a long forgotten about Netgear switch with a rogue ICMP setting that prevented Airprint, that took me about a week to figure out! But we got there in the end). I've set my schools up with a separate IP range for iPads (just reserved the MAC addresses) and added that range as an exception on the Konica's so the iPads can print straight out (i.e. no authentication). You can also get a free app called PageScope mobile, which will print to the Konica's with authentication (and no need to enable Airprint first). I found the app a bit fiddly to work with, maybe to do with the way we'd set up the printer, although TBH, Airprint is probably preferable on iDevices as you can print from every app (one of the issues with PageScope is you need to print from within the app itself, teachers will constantly ask to be reminded how to print!! Its nowhere near as intuitive as AirPrint). I'd still maybe try the app first simply because it enables printing without any config changes (hopefully).

Which printers do you have? Many models have a free airprint upgrade (i.e. many Konica's do). Edit, also, see this (make any printer Airprint): Print wirelessly from any iDevice, with any printer - CNET

... and will use a computer (I know one school who had declared all their cleaning and dinner lady staff, doubling the price of their licence!).

You should be able to get Office 365 proplus as a free upgrade (we had to talk to our software licence people, and they added it to the tenant, then staff could download Office 365). I had much the same idea as you (seeing how cheaper it was without an Office software licence), and was told it worked out more expensive than having it! I can't remember the full details of the conversation (it was before summer), but IIRC you get a big discount for buying volume licensing for the three products (I can't remember which 3 products, maybe Windows/Office/Server?), and removing any one of those knocks off the discount, pushing the price HIGHER than having all three products. YMMV. Definitely ring your licence supplier. I'm sure they (Microsoft) keep it deliberately confusing!

Dell Optiplex by any chance? There's an issue where Youtube won't work unless you install the Dell sound driver (the Microsoft driver just hangs). It doesn't just stop sound from working, Youtube just refuses to play (with the spinning circle giving no indication of what is causing the error). There was a massive thread on answers.microsoft.com (which I can no longer find). edit: if it works when you plug headphones in, but doesn't work without headphones, it could be this

Thanks for that, that's one part of the equation, my other concern might be best addressed by encryption. Do you (or anyone else here) know of a way to create an encrypted container (or alternatively, on the fly encryption) for Google Drive?

Competing (redirected folder) policy maybe? (they are asynchronously applied by default, so every second logon would be a symptom if something else conflicted at the next startup). What happens if you set Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/System/Logon/"Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to enabled?
