  1. Came into the position and the company was using 2tb externals for the backing up of complete servers which involved a lot of hassle. We get a new SAN next week to do our complete back ups whilst using the externals for script saving. Thanks for all the answers.
  2. I shall look into giving this a go, thanks for the quick response!
  3. Hey guys, I am covering maternity for a school that I currently work in, which involves the entire IT department. We use portable hard drives for back up purposes(ye ye I know) and we swap them out weekly. The backups on the server are scheduled to run once a day at X time - however they are not running! (And haven't been since god knows when) It states that the disk is offline, but under disk management it shows as online. The actual error presented is: The backup operation of the volume did not start. Now could it be a corrupt drive? And should I recommend getting a mini tower ( I think I will do) with enough storage to safely update to? I'm only covering maternity and don't want to change too much but backups are very important and need to fix this asap, any suggestions? Oliver
  4. Hi, We have IPads set up around the school that teachers can use to take photos - however the photos are no longer being uploaded to the server from dropbox - is there a way I can check the file pathing and correct it? Ipad - Dropbox - dropbox then uploads to a) *random folder on server* Was working fine up until early August when holidays were around. Thanks, Oliver
  5. Yes to both - does it help if i say the problem may have occured when I logged onto the staff laptop using my admin account?
  6. Also - i've just tried with another account, and I get the same error and problem. The second user doesn't have a desktop he/she logs on to but the first does and can do that perfectly fin, it's just these laptops. Oliver
  7. Thank you for the reply! I presume I can unlock the user to the specific machine within group policy right?
  8. Hello there guys! So basically we have staff laptops that they get to take home, work on etc and have all the required software needed. However when I re-install an image and work around with the AD and finalize it, they can log on locally but nothing seems to be "updating" so to speak. The process of what I do is: Image the laptop (up to date images) Name it to match what I name on the AD Add it to the right groups (e.g. smartboard group) I then connect it to the domain (prompts reboot) I log on locally (not sure If i can on the domain?) I get the following error WHEN trying to log onto the domain - You cannot log on because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer. Please see your network administrator for more information. I then create the local username and password and match whats on the server For some reason it manages to download a program onto the machine (target tracker) and i can connect to the servers/drives. Does anyone know why programs etc are not downloading? Been stuck on this for almost 3 days.. Sorry if this sounds like a newbie question, was shadowing the system admin here but they are currently now on maternity and im on my own. Thanks a bunch, Oliver.
