    Isn't there a legal requirement to advertise a job externally as well as internally? - I may be wrong, someone please correct me. If they know the internal candidate will get it why waste other peoples time coming for the interviews!

    Just a word of warning, HP firmware process is a bit funny sometimes, it doesn't show you any form of progress bar or anything when its upgrading, so if its just sitting there DONT reboot it, let it do its thing. Have you also tried booting into the secondary firmware?

    one thing todo also is plug the console cable in, reboot the switch and makes sure it boots up cleanly and look too see if any errors appear in the console.

    Have you looked at the other end where the fiber is connecting too?

    Instead of using fiber, have your tried plugging it in via the 2x 1Gb Coppers?

    Without checking are the modules, are they fully compatible with the switch? Latest Firmware on the switch? Any dust or dirt in the ports?

    I always get any cabling guys to test every port\cable before they leave the job.

    I'm dyslexic, doesn't really stand in my way, i do have poor hand writing though. I do believe that people who are dyslexic think different to a person who hasn't got it.

    did u not get any handover? document what is in place and get some form of project plan in place to get things up to standard.
