Currently we have the following setup: Remote Spark We also have a staff RDP server setup so staff with older laptops can login and use sims and active inspire and this seems to work very well.

Looks to be back online now. I assume it was a DNS/Name server related issue.
-
Looks like the domains DNS is no longer being served at all which would explain why their email is not working. Do they have a twitter or facebook at all since that would be the best bet with this type of issue.

Our UPS has a sensor which tells us a few bits and bobs which is quite useful. It may be worth seeing if your UPS supports a similar type of thing since most UPS's are pretty good with that type of data now days.

I'm not sure about the second one however the first one is expected with a new install of the current version but if you just add in the booking add-on it should resolve the problem even if you don't use it. I believe the installation was downscaled before release and it seems part of the booking system was left in place!

Moving Staff shares/home drives to Google Drive - Thoughts?
NokiX replied to Moog1982's topic in Cloud Services
I don't think it would be a good idea with staff as the data they handle is much more sensitive than what pupils use and having it on your own servers gives you full control over the data and it's backups. Also if for any reason you lost internet access the staff would at least have easy access to their data. There's always pro's and con's do this type of change but personally I think staff data should be stored locally. -
We have only 1 XP machine which is used for the laser cutter in tech but that's it. In terms of server 2013 we have 3 servers running this however one of these is a legacy server which is not used and the other two we are migrating away from over time.

It's a sad day, I've run out of space on my nas box at home and I can't afford larger disks Assuming a few people on here will have a nas box at home how much space do you think is enough for your backups and media files?

Chromebook screen monitoring system advice/help...
NokiX replied to Zezima's topic in New Project Ideas
It sounds like a good plan however I believe Impero may have done something like this already forcing the user to authenticate before using the internet. I'm not sure if it's a live feature yet but if your able to create this as a standalone product it would be very useful for anyone who has networks which only use chromebooks. -
These days keyboards are designed to look and feel nice to use rather than be hard wearing in an education environment but if CCTV is not an option you could try to enforce additional checks to the staff so that they check the machines (specifically the keyboards and mice) before or after each lesson so that they know what condition they were in at each point of the day. If your also using something like Impero and can see who has been logged on it will help pinpoint who is causing the issues but you will likely find once you crack down on this the teachers won't have to check so often once pupils get the idea that they cannot get away with such damage.

Apparently not all of my emails are being received on their end correctly which is odd so it sounds like there may be a filtering issue on either end. They did admit themselves there are quite a lot of bugs though which is nice of them to admit! I do wonder when their support portal will be back online though...
-
I'm running 5105 currently but I have noticed a lot of bugs myself to be honest. It's frustrating since I've seen Impero do and be a lot better and after meeting the staff recently at 'Lunch with Impero' I had high hopes they were going to squash a lot of the bugs so hopefully it won't take them too long.

Is there any idea on when the support portal will be back online as I am simply getting no replies from my emails to support and I am currently sat waiting! At least a simple 'we are quite busy and will respond with a full answer as soon as possible' would be nice I'll post my issue here however just to see if anyone knows what the issue is: Regards, Chris.

We use the following: Ergotron 24-2_*-085 PS Laptop Management Cart They are pretty good if you cable them correctly but you do need a switch to put inside the top. Also when your not using the network cables it's worth using some cable ties to move the network cables out the way so the kids don't pull or catch them.

This website logs you out of websites you are logged into: Superlogout.COM
NokiX replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
I believe that someone took a look into the code and the website just uses the logout URL for the websites to clear your login session although I'm unsure if that's for all of the websites on the list. -
Hi All, We are looking to web apps and wondered if it would be possible to implement web apps into home access plus since it can be implemented into exchange so thought it may be pretty useful for the students to use while using home access plus. If anyone has done this before let me know since I'm not sure if it's worth looking into if it's not possible!

To make it easier for staff we decided to go down the route of dropbox as we can create an account under the staff members email account and then install it on the ipad and their PC or laptop. This allows them to take photos and have them automatically sync to their PC without a cable. Quite handy for members of staff who are not great with computers!

She looks like she took a wrong turn somewhere, I was only watching a few episodes a couple of days ago as well.

One system which is quite good is Trello which isn't really a service desk but it allows you to create to do lists and create different lists for each person. Anyone with access can also move the jobs around meaning people can be allocated jobs from each other and then focus on only those jobs in their list. We use it along side the Manage Engine service desk to help us with planning what we need to order in the office but I would recommend looking into it since it's web based and I believe there is even a mobile app for it as well.

Hi All, We are currently seeing an issue in a few of our ICT suites in which the machines are hanging on the printer policy after the user has entered their login details. This normally wouldn't be an issue as sometimes policies can take a little time however this issue seems to causing the policy to hang indefinitely as I have left some machines for over 2 hours with no progress. Checking the event logs seems to show the following: DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer CSR|WPPRINT01 using any of the configured protocols. This repeats constantly in the event logs however we have not made any changes to our print server over the holidays so we are not quite sure what has caused this problem. Looking into the problem we couldn't find much in the way of similar issues on Google however one result was similar and suggested it was a driver issue relating to old and corrupt drivers. I have since cleared all drivers from some of the local machines however this doesn't seem to have resolved the issue at all so I'm a little stuck on what else to do here. We don't really want to start changing the print server however there are no details in the event logs of the server so it seems to be happening client side in terms of the logging/error. If anyone has any suggestions on fixes for this please let me know as it's causing a lot of complaints from staff sat waiting for a lesson instead of asking us for help!

Unfortunately i'm not an expert with IIS but I believe you can usually modify the web.config to show detailed errors: Forgive me if you have done this already but I have seen this problem before with HAP but only during new installations so hopefully forcing it to show more detailed error logs may help here.

I got myself a USB mini fridge thinking it would be useful to keep my can cold while I'm drinking it, I used it once and now it's just sat on my desk at work with a pot of screws on top so it lasted all of an hour or two!

'Limited Edition' products are mainly just for the fans of the games themselves similarly to the 'Digital Deluxe' copies you can get of games like battlefield where you get some extra perks and in some games you get a title or image showing you paid extra for the perks. Sometimes it is worth the extra money but it all depends whether you want to pay the extra money for collectables.

Hi All, We are currently having an issue with our pupils in which when they logon they are able to see desktop icons which we have since deleted from the shared desktop specified on the network. Our pupils don't have their own profiles and instead there is a standard template which is used instead but the pupil desktop is also specified separately as it allows us to add and remove icons as and when required. We recently removed a fair number of icons as they were no longer needed but for some reason certain PC's still allow the user to see and access the old icons regardless of the fact they have been deleted from the desktop although we can add new icons without any issues it just seems removing them doesn't seem to want to play ball. I'm sure it's an easy fix but I'm having a blank moment I can't figure it out! Chris
