Hold on just one minute. Have I missed something in the very first post? We are talking about cashless catering, but in the same breath talking about a note machine (a cash collecting box of some kind). So the students are bringing cash into school, the school is still doing banking of that money. Why did you go cashless precisely?

Generally don't delete staff who have actually worked in your school, SIMS doesn't like it. Removing accounts is fine, but again I tend to just remove all their permissions (with an end date) and mark them inactive. It's better for auditing.

[sims] Colours on Individual Report (linked from templates)

Oops, just tested this, you can only set the background colour in SIMS, so scrap this idea. -
[sims] Colours on Individual Report (linked from templates)
bobsmith replied to Superius2014's topic in MIS Systems
Technically no, if the box is blank then how does it know what colour to use? But you could work around this by making it appear blank - use the same font colour as the background colour -
The #1 reason that ALL employees (and perhaps even agency staff over 28 days service) should have a RECORD in SIMS is for the staff workforce census AND as your Single Central Record (for DBS checking purposes). Accounts should definitely be restricted to those with a need to know (i.e. access to staff records by HR etc, access to student data by teachers/TAs etc).

[sims] Marksheet Colour Coding - SIMS Assessment
bobsmith replied to katbanham's topic in MIS Systems
If you're intending all of this so that you have a printed report at the end of it, which doesn't have the emerging, but has a empty but coloured cell instead then this isn't going to work as it is. The word document output can pull through an aspect with the colour it has from SIMS, but you're not actually storing a value in the aspect Strand A01 Colour. The best solution if you don't want "emerging" on the report would be to store the name of the colour as @Sylv3r suggested. -
Personally I wouldn't give SOLUS the domain admin account, but create a service account with the correct permissions. This will not worry SOLUS but is much better domain security as you'll have accountability for things that happen with the domain admin account. You'll also be able to change the domain admin password without having to worry about updating the password used by the service account.

Was Solus using the domain admin credentials?

Funding and BTEC Level Changes
bobsmith replied to bobsmith's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Yes you would need to make the change, though they will pick up the mismatch from the QAN and the qualification awarded themselves. There would be an impact on funding, because normally a triple award course would occupy 3 times the hours of the single award course, and funded appropriately. If the student drops a triple for a single but without picking up another 2 qualifications (equivalent) they would be expected to be doing less hours and hours = money. What I've always done with these BTEC thingies is to record them on the largest course we expect them to do, and only amend towards the end of the year if there is an issue with them dropping down a level. -
You go into system manager and create a user directly. They wouldn't be restricted to one class, they would still have to go to take register then browse for the register they want to take. We have classes without teachers assigned, if you browse the registers without specifying the teacher you can see all including those without teachers assigned.

But you're gonna want them to appear on your single central record for safeguarding. Of course you might not have migrated your SCR to SIMS yet. You can also create a user account without making them an employee.

Silly question, why doesn't this staff member have a login?
-
well creating a student with a status of "guest" will avoid them showing up in the Census, so this might be a safer workaround.

[sims] GCSE & A Level/Tech Level 3 Points for 2016 Summer Results
bobsmith replied to Xeba37's topic in MIS Systems
Are you doing your calculations in Excel or are you getting SIMS marksheets to do the work for you? If you did it in excel you could just create lookups to use the grading system you want. -
setup a separate database.....

[sims] Advice on finding/replacing duplicate contacts
bobsmith replied to david_craggs's topic in MIS Systems
If you're any good at Excel I'd suggest pulling out a report from SIMS that has all the contacts, their phone numbers etc and their relationship to any students. You can then do a check on mobile numbers since these are pretty unique to people and find the duplicate records. Then you have to pick the duplicate you think is the most comprehensive and accurate and replace the less good duplicates everywhere. Never found a fast way of doing it, but after a couple of run throughs I've got our duplicates down to zero. I've then retrained our admin staff to avoid creating the duplicates in the first place! -
turning off calculate on save and/or calculate on entry still allows staff to mash the calculate button and grind everything to a crawl. not aware of any way of preventing that short of removing the calculations from their marksheet/template entirely.
-
Gotta say, that sounds totally genius to me @RootsSchImp. I tend to have a separate template for doing my calculations anyway, but if I start doing more calculations for subjects I'll definitely consider this method.

I did some googling, have you done a quick reboot? will it be a problem to do so?

How to reset default Academic Year for all users
bobsmith replied to MaggieMilligan's topic in MIS Systems
Just to confirm, you're talking about Tools > Academic management > set Academic year? This doesn't affect day to day operations as far as i know, would only be an issue for the admin staff who make class changes etc. -
This doesn't seem like a SIMS problem at all, have you taken it up with ParentPay themselves or your till provider? 1000's of schools are using SIMS and recording FSM eligibility within it, there's also loads of schools using parentpay (like us) without this issue.

My personal considered opinion is that until you are using seriously large screens (40inch and upwards) 4K is not of benefit to desktop users. Now when playing games it's another matter, but this isn't the audience you are buying them for. @zag and @sonofsanta make extremely valid points. SSD > 4K in the work environment.
