  1. Agreed, was just saying that it happens, didn't mean to infer your ever support such barbaric act. Still find it odd that no-one has embraced the import\export of security groups and even odder that none of your gold partners (or whatever you call them), haven't asked them to be included out-of-the-box so it is standardized. Still in the list of things that I found odd to today that is pretty low on the list.
  2. I'd assume he's just trying to check it's not another "oh look they want to added to system manager group" scenerio like you get with SIMS and their partners.
  3. Yer, pretty much given up trying to explain to people how it's a bad idea - clearly people can't understand how bypassing Microsoft security is not a good idea. Add the fact the SIMS dumps temp data into My Docs and the users temp folder and I still wonder why re-authentication is better then Windows + L in certain peoples eyes. Anyway, better go, I need to run this unsigned exe to force me to reauthenticate my Outlook so I can send an email asking why they fill I should have those annoying UAC prompts
  4. You've got a redirect line in your fmsconnect.ini that you need to remove. You normally find you have the local one with a redirect to a shared fmsconnect.ini which then redirects to self which then creates a infinite loop.
  5. Have you tried v2 - SIMS Bulk Import - Download: Preview - SIMS Bulk Import 2.0.1 It includes support for Windows Auth. Failing that, can you check you can actually log into SIMS .net using that user \ pass first. The path refers to a the source code location on my dev machine at home - so I can just open up c:\Users\Matt\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\SIMSBulkImport\Release\SIMSBulkImport\SIMSBulkImport\SIMSAPI\Main.cs and go to line 205 to see where in the logic it's failing.
  6. Phone your local support team \ LA \ Capita.
  7. So if you open up the raw file in notepad, Excel (or something) has truncated it already? I'm not sure if I could do anything - ideally you want to get your source file 100% correct first. I'll have a look and see if there is anything I can do - no promises but I'll try and have a look tonight.
  8. What version are you using, 1.7 or 2.0? What is the file type your using? If it's CSV, does the raw fill still have F0?
  9. You haven't installed crystal onto the server. Do wonder why your using crystal reports
  10. Are you using the stock heatsink at the moment? You can mount a dual 180mm heatsink on the roof and a 180mm on the rear...

    ITIL

ITIL pretty good if your building up documentation, defining your documents - i.e. this is a procedure we follow for applying Windows Patches, which is a minor change. This a significant change, we want to do it on this date, we're doing it because, this is the techy bit (i.e. how you'll do it), this is how we'll rollback if it goes wrong, this is how we've tested it, this is how we'll test it once it's done to check its completed ok. So it's pretty good if you have non-techy boss, they at least know you're doing someone on email or whatever and that your not doing it on a whim. It's working doing the essentials - one it means you're hand over will be easier and two you'll need it if your going into any kind of half decent (large) company.
  12. @jinnantonnixx They should be pushing out the GUID from the server in a future release. Worth poking @PhilNeal about.
  13. I think that is out-of-date before the project got canned\re-branded\re-scoped - still it's hard to find out for sure as its not easily dated.
  14. Ah, you do like duplicating posts - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/140574-trouble-logging.html Have you thought about contacting your SIMS support team who you pay all that money for, support?
  15. I must be too young and naive, I read that as rebranded so it isn't another delayed, overspent project.
  16. If your using a unique id like admission number or Person ID, just use that and the field you want to enter. It basically replicates the browse logic in focus > students (or staff or whatever), so check that will find it ok.
  17. What?? The business object allows you do everything the SIMS .net application can do, it is the same logic \ api \ objects \ libraries \ whatever you want to call it as the SIMS .net uses. Just to be clear. - You can import UDF fields - single line of text. - You can import email addresses. - Version 2 you can import telephone numbers - https://simsbulkimport.codeplex.com/documentation - You can not bulk delete email addresses. - You can not currently override the current primary \ main option. This would require a two step process of first changing the current primary \ main, then adding the new address - like you have to in SIMS. However this will occur in future release.
  18. I'm not saying discussing them isn't important, I'm just saying the venue is wrong to have a wider discussion. It's why we're keep going round in circles. We need new blood - the blood of our enem.. I mean our customers - those teachers and the lovely office staff.
  19. I agree the technical element is pretty small in the grand discussion, but to be fair, talking about technical beniefts of apples and pears on a technical forum makes sense.
  20. Just enter anything for the user \ pass. I'm not saying I ever put in something stupid in, but you could probably guess what time I'd configured it by what I put in as the fake password. The practicle answer would be to put annoymous for both.
  21. To be honest, I'm surprised they actual put in SMTP at all, my money would have been you'd need InTouch to send emails!!
  22. I believe you can setup a local SMTP relay - it's useful for other things too. It's also worth asking your LA\ISP if they have a SMTP relay you can use. How to Allow a Multi-function Device or Application to Send E-mail through Office 365 Using SMTP: Exchange Online Help
  23. Have you tried to create a CNAME in your DNS for new server so the clients can resolve the old name (to the new server).
  24. Cool, glad people are generally liking the idea. If you could also vote on the poll above as well please guys and girls. Would also be interesting in any reasons why not - other then database are boring etc. I was thinking of was more aimed at being followed on to Exam 70-462 - Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases. Might have to have this as part of phase 2 - I don't like the idea of querying the SIMS database directly - we could look at building a data warehouse. This will at least give you a safe environment to play around with, just be a question of right way of doing it.
