All the UK law states is that a business must display their business details - which I think is only for Ltd companies as well, I know they must have a business sign on the front of their premises (https://www.gov.uk/running-a-limited-company/signs-stationery-and-promotional-material). I think he's doing it as it's getting close to election day and it's a easy win. Joe Commonman gets narked off with 15 pages of an email being legal disclaimers, the green vote gets narked off with the older generation printing said 15 page legal disclaimer and the rest get narked off with the red tape and legal nonsense. This email is private, then why was it sent via unencrypted means. Any other disclaimer about disregarding because it was sent to the wrong person, well it's a footer, people read top to bottom, the damage is done. As for business\personal, that's they you have a multiple email accounts, if its personal and has nothing to do with my work, you get it from my personal email account. Same goes for any other type of account.

Just be careful, FMS gets in a tiz if it's restored to a point after SIMS and you'll end up paying Capita £££ for a 1 liner bit of SQL to reset it. Would say SIMS\FMS isn't the correct MIS if this is the route your school has taken - unless you have it hosted solution. Why is a TA ordering things? They should be going to budget holders, or more likely, the stockroom. You'll be surprised. Normally what happens is the head will email the bursar a link on amazon to what they want, then they go look on the preferred suppliers catalogues, then they order it\get the three quotes. Not sure the bursar would like a meeting to discuss why they ordered a overpriced HDMI cable (or whatever) from some random supplier rather then from a preferred supplier. Just throw up a order form and have it go to the finance office. Maybe build a catalogue of standard equipment.

Not sure I follow your logic, no extra licensing costs, few clicks on SOLUS3 to deploy FMS. Training would be required regardless. Suppliers is the one that springs to mine. Both from the point of view of having to edit the supplier export\import from FMS and having to deal with people entering freetext for suppliers name or matching cross-system

I heard Agora (Capita's online payment system) doesn't link into FMS, so bespoke might not be even an option!!

You're prob not find much interest until it's at least a working prototype, ie something you could use for a summer school or such. Devs don't like starting work either until they have all the information and have a plan in place. ps: you can see the irony of not publishing the source code to a open-source product with "open" in the name

I would suggest going to BETT - Bett Show 2015 - The world's leading learning technology event. I'll bite my tongue about pointing out development should come requirement, not from shiny product demo or spare pot of money. I admit you don't know, what you don't know and how do you find out when the government canned Becta and IT advisors in general, but you should at least be able to have an area that needs to be looked at to form some sort of business requirement.

I'd ask yourself why you want to do it @mark_otbc, if its money, spend a bit of time working work costs - I suspect it wouldn't make it worth while. If you really do want to do it, don't jump in, see if your employer would cut your hours so you could have a 50/50 split, least then you've got your bills covered.

That video made me laugh, I mean a DDOS attack is like standing in a the door way of a shop, it isn't hacking, hacking would involve actually entering the store. The point about it costing them money is just silly, Microsoft has private peering with all the major ISPs (Peering), it might have cost Sony, but Microsoft has profited from it if anything. Not a fan of the "real-time" point, getting the data - yer, totally, but does it need to be truly real-time? I know I've heard horror stories where parents have been screaming down the phone at their child because they have a missing lesson mark - only for it to transpire that it was due to a problem with the teacher taking the register for whatever reason, technical or not. I agree with @dhicks point about the data having a "gatekeeper" to ensure the data quality, but also he has a good point about it being a safe sandbox in independence before hitting the "real" world.

I think @mukz was referring to installing SQL onto a different drive to OS. Either way, @10101010 Capita do support if you have the SQL database log (ldf) files on a different drive to SQL database data (mdf) files - supports been in for ages now. Though I'd argue the benefit if you have your database in SIMPLE recovery model - as the log file isn't really used. Backing up to Azure seems to be the big one, other then few index tweaks - most of the big ones won't benieft SIMS.
