Short answer no. You'd need to do exports using the SIMS built in reporting engine. Using a different tool would still timeout \ slow the server down. I did think about putting together something that basically builds a data warehouse, so you don't impact the day-to-day transactional work by sync the data into a report optimized database, then create a Analysis service cube which you can connect Excel directly up to and do cool things like data mining, trending analysis and pivot tables all out of the box. This is all using the features that are included in SQL standard edition and Excel. It just...

Might be something SalamanderSoft could help out with. I would argue what's the point, might want to slap in some sort of auditing so you can produce some nice report of usage to provide its actually being used 6 months down the line when you've got no money or working computers but a pretty touchscreen device

Ironically Apple is the only one to have made any sort of innovation with regards to batteries - look up the new MacBook (yes you're eyes will burn at the baby poo colour laptop - sorry gold). As for using 1.3GB of ram, what on earth do you have running that uses that?! I've got full desktops using less RAM!

Getting the amount right is key. If I slapped 16gb ram into my phone it'll just KO the battery and it won't improve things. I've got 512mb in one phone and it's rubbish. 1GB seems to be the sweet spot, least for Windows Phones and Apple - that's assuming your not using it as a laptop, your OS\apps don't have memory leaks and your storage isn't pants. Remember the OS will block running apps from SD cards because of the rubbish performance vs embedded memory. As for galaxy s3, I wonder how it'll perform without the Samsung bloat - remember Samsung is hardware manufacturer, they profit from hardware, so not optimizing code results in increased hardware sales thus profit. Look at Apple, iPhone 6, 1gb.

Yer, never really got that. So you spend over £400 on a phone, then you reinstall the OS, void warranty and break those cool features you spend the extra cash getting. Still never really got why you need more then a 1gb ram on a phone (currently). Do Android phones have such bad memory leaks?

The cynic in me would say that could because they are so cheap there isn't much room for profit and you wouldn't resell something you couldn't profit, but that's just the cynic I think if you treat it as a tablet is ok, is no worse\better then an android\ipads (except in the case of the ipad, its a qtr of a price). If you treat it as a laptop of course it's goanna be pants! RE: network performance, it's got 32gb space, I think that's gonna be more of a bottleneck then wifi !!

No such thing as unlimited. It's all capped, you go over the cap, they send you a message telling you how evil you are ruining the network for everyone then punishing you by rate limiting you.

Yer I know what you mean. I think the same, but it's hard to argue with the business case, I've got 2 dev servers in Azure then 3 clients which I spin up now and then and the cost is so ridiculously low its not worth the RAM upgrade costs on my desktop. As for internet going down, its rare your internet connection goes down - proxies are a different matter. I think I've had more power cuts then internet outages!! The cost of supporting on-prem kit from a MIS supplier point of view sees your price to the customer sky rocket, just have a look at the number of posts we have about SIMS problems because of the infrastructure or how long it takes people to apply updates.

SOLUS2 is dated, it needs a fresh, which is SOLUS3. The ISO was in effect SOLUS 1. So really your happy with SOLUS 1, not SOLUS2. Also, not sure why DoubleFirst needs SIMS updates, I guess it's not a complete MIS Far as the staff, the "SOLUS2" folks were epic, if you look at their career since leaving Capita, it pretty much reflects that. It makes sense they left as SOLUS3 was being introduced. They had achieve everything that Capita could offer them and they've found new challenges at other companies and they've laid a good foundation for the next generation - ie they've helped them work through a lot of the teething problems (except the stupid GUID idea, pretty sure that stupid idea is still floating around).

It isn't Azure SQL. It's Microsoft SQL Server running on a Azure VM. Big difference in techy terms, for starts Azure SQL is feature limit and requires clustered indexes on every table. SQL server on a Azure VM isn't, but you can auto-scale. In terms of end-user - it doesn't really matter.

I get the whole shared bank account, but shared email? Isn't this an idea from the early days of the internet? Do couples share a mailbox for general stuff like bills?
