  1. I was thinking that Perhaps not the same MCS we were originally talking about? Its either a certain some one working for MCS (same scam guys) or a different company called MCS which is actually not a scam (different from the above mentioned). I wonder which one it is Personally I never do business without doing some research and most people do, some though fall victim to these dodgy people.
  2. Frankly I am so rude to most salesman they give up Once they called my boss and it went like this Boss "Phone for you" Me "Not another ****** ******* salesman?" Boss "You find out" Me "Hello?" Man on phone "Yes.. I am a salesman, Guess you dont like salesman" Me "NO" Man on phone "Thank you for your time" If you are so rude they know they are wasting their time They are learning to get past reception last one said "Free Printer", you can guess what I said to him
  3. We have yet to have any real issues with giving students access to email from home and our kids are not exactly the best in the area. We occasionally had some kids sit there and try and use other email accounts which is why we push for students to have real good passwords. Other then that all is good, when frog comes our way that will put an increase usage on Email.
  4. Tough one this. Is there any laptops, computers, servers that could do with replacing? Get some GB networking in? Personally I wouldnt bother with Wireless. If I had that 8k right now, I would go ahead and look in to SAN or get two good servers or 1 awesome one for a virtual server, or put it towards our FROG purchase.
  5. Very interesting topic. How did you all go about becoming a MS IT Academy? what kind of requirements are there?
  6. We too have been looking at this, yes its 200 hrs a year. It is a route we want to take, I think we worked out that for us its about 8k a year, based on 200 full time staff. In all honesty, MS should have done this ages ago, think they finally realised Education is catching up big time with IT.
  7. I saw this on the MSN site, had a link to a article which actually asked several questions. I wont repeat them but it certainly got me thinking, the questions attacked both sides. The one and only question that attacked the mother was, why did it take so long to complain about it. (apparently it had gone on for a while). Totally agree that you shouldnt be doing this, if students are coming in often smelling then surely thats a matter you raise with the Key Stage teams. That can then be raised with the parents in a civilised matter
  8. Have a coffee in the morning just to wake me up, stick to w/e I got be it coke or usually bottle water. Trying to be some what healthy.. Boss has about 6+ teas a day plus a few fags.
  9. Same as this, we had to do it, we are a community based school but far too many people are wandering around. Our post16 students also have ID badges. Now that everyone has got used to the badges no one complains about them.
  10. I believe this is a order request for Big mac meal, large fries and diet coke.
  11. Must say this has raised up some great points. We are already aware that Software/MS licenses will need to be checked/redrawn up, we are currently awaiting some thing next month which could allow us to do what we want with MS license wise for 10k a year. As for SIMS we were not aware of this but we are now and are going to raise this up with the Head. We are also going to be asking Depts to check their purchased software if licensed for us to use once we become an Academy (if we still do). Please keep the info coming, this will help us greatly. I think it is about £150K the school gets extra, I believe most of that is going to be in the pocket of Licenses.
  12. One thing I would think about is are the guys above the techy job going to stick around? Promotional aspects? Most places tend to promote instead of employing outside sources (from my experience). I would go for it, take the chance, build up the experience for a year.
  13. Glad we are not the only school to have Facebook group issues I reported too.
  14. I would agree here, although I have a 2009 new fiesta titanium and it has started to make a few noises... Personally if i went back in time I would of upped the money for some thing bigger and better like the Focus, it had many more better reviews then the fiesta. Although I would shop around but then thats me
  15. HEY! How comes us men get insulted I am only kidding, I have a big sense of humour... Need it in this job. I would do what others suggest, make it known you are doing your job, keep an archive of your work? I personally would talk to the boss and try and get out why she was employed. Perhaps it was more on her expertise and not the IT side? Manager experience? I went for the same job that the guy here got and I must say, he wasnt totally clued up on the top level of IT but he did bring in a lot of good things and as a result we both worked much better together. I think even the head is shocked how well things have become as a result of me and him being more in charge and responsible. I got a promotion and then the head of the Dept left, the new guy became Head of our support and I became the network manager. Between us both we do a brilliant job I deal with the servers, he brought in some good IT experience. He was not the best qualified out of the new guys (I met them all and agreed this guy was the best). I also asked the current head of our dept if I could check out all the CVs and recommended the guy. It was also the reason I got promoted for being "Mature and Professional" instead of worrying about the competition. So it might be a good idea to find out why she was employed? must be a reason.
  16. Yeah, have a good quiet chat with a member of the SLT team. Give them the examples that you have given here, why did they employ this person? What did the CV say? I honestly can not believe a network manager was employed and struggles with all of that, that to me is all basic Techy work I could do blind folded.
  17. I got that one, thats the test I use - theres a download version. It's whats telling me that the problem lies on the certificates...
  18. Yes its one of those annoying posts again I have been spending this week trying to get my little Iphone4 to sync with Exchange, I had tried previously with other staff members but with my self having one I can do it every spare minute I have. I searched on google endlessly and by the looks of things it is down to the certificate. I have tried manually adding the Cert to the Iphone and still does not seem to work. Typical Error I get is "Cannot get Mail The Connection to the server Failed". On the settings / mail area though occasionally I get a "Not Trusted" message when I view the details. Which sounds to me again the Certificate. Have gone through a lot of settings and so far everything seems fine except the certificate, I have played around and tried a few things but so far still not having any luck. I managed to download a ActiveSync tester and indeed it is failing on the Certificate part of the test. I am on Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003 Service Pack2, OWA and OMA is installed anc configured alright, Ports are open and no Firewalls in the way. If anyone has any advice or ideas I would be greatly appreciative as I know many of you work like me in education and school systems I hope I have included enough information.
  19. Think its meant that 10 years ago IT was geeky shall we say, now MSN is used by all youngsters, they have Bebo, Facebook and nearly every house hold has PC+Internet Even parents and people that dont have a clue with IT are getting laptops and PCs. Yet 10 years ago it was only us in the IT business or actually "needed" it not just for play or to join the world, online shopping has gone through the roof, ebay. I can go on
  20. In all honesty, I only took basic IT back in school. I never chose it as an option, I did Technology/Woodworking, now look at me, Network Manager of a school. Biggest problem is at that age we never really know what we want to do when we grow up, we can't really get away with fireman, spaceman and action hero no more. And looking back there is so much time I wasted in Art and technology and even food tech because I never really learnt anything. In fact the skills I learn in the last 10 years of being an adult I learnt from people in my life or by my self and not in school. Personally as for ICT, keep it because the world is getting more and more tech savvy and it would be silly to remove it. Although I will admit there are certain things our year 10's and 11's are learning in their "options" that I dont really think any of them will need.
  21. *Apple hate it Grrrr Anyway I will not buy a MAC, besides the fact I work in IT to me there really is not a need for me to have a MAC. Although I have just purchased an IPhone4 which will turn up today. It replaces my phone and my ipod so it makes sense, I got it with sat nav so another bonus. My Ipod lasted for 5 years so hopefully this one does the same. I am not a Gizmo man, I dont fancy all the fancy new toys because they are a lot of money for some thing you should be using. Like a car, I brought a fiesta titanium new model 1.6 although I wanted a fancy car there wasnt so much a point so I still got something which has some good style, good engine and not expensive.
  22. Well I have had too many! But here is todays one. Your username is your surname and the password is Password thats a capital P on that. *staff member "Its still not working" Are you sure your doing Username and the word Password with a capital P on that. "Yes, Still not working" I have tried it and I put this username and this password thats the word Password with a capital P on that word Password. Are you sure thats what you are doing. Yes still not working. She was typing in her OWN password not the word Password!!!! After actually SHOWING her... she finally figured it out
  23. Strange I too have just bought a new phone, been pondering a while about which to go for. Blackberrys - I am not impressed with them, I have a basic model my self and its slow, rubbish, didnt take long for it to start failing and doing weird thing, turn it off and back on again was a solution.... I dont want just a basic mobile now, its time for some thing new. Android I feel is too young and too new, I dont get things just released I would rather them age a bit and be more "matured" shall we say. So I looked at Iphones, they have been out a bit and have come a way since its original release. So I have gone for the new Iphone4 and hopefully it will give me everything I want. I have had my Ipod for about 5 years, its been dropped, its had rare problems and has lasted me much longer then my mobile phones. I have gone through 3 phones to my 1 ipod. I am not a Apple fan but because every where i look I see IPhones and it does what I want it to and perhaps more I decided that wins. Turns up tomorrow so either expect me to be smashing it up on friday or singing its praises.
  24. Hmm I would personally say Blu Ray is the future similar to DVDs. They took a while to take off like 3D movies, now look, movies are going more and more 3D and BluRay is becoming more popular. Downloads is the way forward but BlueRays are high quality and people will still purchase them. You never really know though, with bigger TVs coming the norm, people will want higher quality. Films like Avatar are proving that 3D + high quality really does work well. I think its a bad move on Apples part but then no one buys a MAC to watch films. With BlueRay readers so cheap now it does not matter (Plus all in 1 TVs).
  25. I use it, not often but it is a good way to keep in contact. If I go out meet new people, add them on facebook, you can see more about them. Great way to see who goes out and gets drunk (ME) half my photos in are me out of it. I will add though I only add people who I dont mind so much seeing them.
