I wear a suit most days, but the shirt is branded. I also, along with the team, have a range of branded polo shirts & jackets, including protective shoes etc.. I'm happy to wear them (I, personally, am not required to do so - the team are), as I'm actually quite proud to be associated with my job and the School.. It's also a bit of money saved by not having to buy those things myself.

None at all - I have an iMac here with iTunes on it, and I've simply plugged them in and registered them. No issues with that many so far.

ESXi only support SCSI, SAS and SATA (and SAN's, obviously), so USB is off the menu I'm afraid.

No limits currently, but I flag up unduly excessive accounts and ask them to move items to DVD or some other more permanent storage (anything that gets to over 20Gb I'll monitor basically). We have 1200 students, and around 250 staff.. space is not an issue currently.

We've started using them recently. Pretty good so far - proper drivers (not the universal stuff that HP chucks out), and reliability seems good to. As you say, also quite cheap.

Yes, but why not go the whole way and use a virtual desktop.. were you planning on having a pile of desktops in your server room? Or blades?

Agreed, it shouldn't.. I've had a couple of issues like yours, with random connection errors (to mail boxes), on diverse handsets (iOS, Blackberry and one Android), and this fixed it on all occasions. May not work for you, but it was worth a try..

Had similar, and this solved my problem: Exchange connection fix There are some issues with ActiveSync for both Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 users whereby some users can connect their Mobile Devices (Windows Mobile Phones / iPhones / Motorola Droid etc) quite happily and ActiveSync pushes mail to the devices, but other users cannot connect and cannot sync anything at all. There appear to be plenty of potential solutions for this problem around if you search the web, but the solution to the majority of these problems can be solved quite simply. If you open up Active Directory Users and Computers and locate one of your users that is not working, Double-Click into the account and click on the Security Tab (if this is not visible, Click on View> Advanced Features from the Menu at the top of the screen then navigate back to your user). Once on the security tab, click on the Advanced Button and make sure that the ‘Include Inheritable Permissions From This Object’s Parent’ is ticked. Click OK twice to close the user account. Once the box is ticked, you should then be able to connect up your Mobile Device to your Exchange Server and receive your mail like the rest of your users.

Now in the local paper. Salary is £22k, not "up to" as I initially said.

I'm really not sure what to say, other than thanks for the bumps. This isn't really a place to discuss the relative merits of forms of transport, nor is it an advert for car usage. Nowhere does it say that one is required, or provided for anything other than an "as needed" purpose. I would, therefore, appreciate it if comments were focussed on the actual job rather than any perception on the need for any vehicles.

We had a similar issue some years ago, and subsequently moved to a different hosting company. A bit of digging turned up that the previous host had 867 (yes, I typed that right) websites running on it's webservers.. bit of adverse weather and all the hits took all of them pretyt much offline. (this wasn't the site you mention, by the way - it was A.N.Other)

There are solutions out there for Windows - Centrify is one, and we'll be using that to move the Apples we have over the the main network over Summer. Basically adds GPO's etc Mac OS Desktop Management

Even the big Mac houses now (like CanCom etc) are recommending using HP servers and Windows AD to manage Mac environments. Your Mac chap is in cloud cuckoo land.. Oh, and I have a MacBook Pro as well as a 27" iMac..

Not sure about Virgin - no end of trouble with the connection at the prep & pre-prep schools (20mb service). Just signed up with Synetrix here at the main school for a 200Mb connection (symetric 1:1), with 1Gb between 7am and 5pm, for 24k. Connection only with the e-mail filtering bolt on, as we do everything else in house now. Doesn't seem too bad on price really..

You also need broadcasting across both (all three?) parts of the network for AppleTV to register on iPads.. we had to turn off broadcasting across the wireless segment of our network just prior to Christmas to troubleshoot a wireless performance issue, and it wiped AppleTV out completely, unless the AppleTV was connected via network cable, AND the machine running iTunes was also wired.. nothing wireless could see it.

We're about to start looking at client hypervisors, so that they have a fully supported school network build for in-school with full connectivity (offline files etc, but if taken out of the school will not connect to a network), and a seperate "home" installation which they can do whatever they want with (except connect to the schools network).. if they break that, the work one will still be fine. Lots of settings etc to check through, but would certainly solve some of the problems we see. The carrot of the home version should work.
